I agree with Aaron...I think that a lot of has to do with TPTB making Uber
stories...I know only of one other fan fic author (Babylon 5) that did an
Uber but the author is also a Xena fan and got the idea from there...

I'd say it's primarily because Xena is the only show (AFAIK) where uber
is canon, so to speak. That is, there have been actual uber-eps on TV,
which, I assume, is what inspired the whole thing. Nobody else does this
kind of thing because nobody else ever thought of it.
