Dan, I'm marvelled about how you put my thoughts into words, 
especially about the last four, five episodes. But, Willow got the 
best out of Xander, Willow, Giles and Buffy. And Xander got the real 
butt-end. Even more than Giles.

Willow's fanbase was the least damaged of all them. As a matter of 
fact, she still one of the most popular characters of them all. And 
nobody really hates her.

1. She isn't viewed as the damaging factor in any relationship.
2. She got a girlfriend in S7, like it or not. It's more than what 
Xander got. And it's one bashing moment less.
3. Willow had a great episode in Angel. There she could show her true 
self. Xander and Giles can never be in Angel, where everybody got 
mary sued.
4. Willow's actions were explained and well-understood. Buffy less. 
Giles less. Xander not all. Nobody knows why he left Anya. Nobody 
knows how he views demons in general and vampires in particular. 
Nobody knows why he lied to Buffy. It has not been addressed while 
there was plenty of oppertunity. Hell, most people don't even know 
why he was supportive to Buffy in Dirty Girls. In the last four 
seasons there were only two moments where he could express his 
feelings and not one moment where he could defend himself. That's 
what I call forgetting a character. 

To put it simple: nobody understands Xander.

5. Willow got a partner in Tara whom most people like. And a ship 
that worked. Xander got nothing. Xander/Anya is not a successful ship 
and Anya's death had no dramatic impact at all. Giles also got 
nothing. Dawn got nothing.
6. Xander's comic actions were replaced by Andrew and his serious 
stuff by Wood. There was no other witch plopping up that was more 
powerful and got more screentime than her. There was also no old, 
insecure nerdy girl plopping up to replace that side of her. 

To be honest, I have no real problem with S6. I only have a problem 
with S6, cuz S7 sucked.
