To add, let's look at that figure Giles kept in the library, Kali, 
and how she compares to the Slayer.  Kali was the Destroyer, Drinker 
of Souls, always with weapons in her hands, and the Dancer (Buffy 
and Faith had some well remembered dances).  She was the berzerker 
goddess who killed her lover, who rose again.  She also happened to 
be the protector of homes and children.

The main reason I like Primal!Buffy, though, is she's made for some 
great stories, especially in this ship.
