In Need Of A Hero

Disclaimers: Not mine, all Joss's and the ME crew, etc. I do occasionally borrow them though *g*.

Spoilers: Only if you didn't see the end of Season Five.

Pairing: W/B

Rating: I think it's mostly G here, sorry to disappoint.

Song: Also not mine. It's Chad Kroeger and Josey Scott's I believe.

Authors Notes: Sorry, I don't have a beta reader. In fact, I don't think I ever have, but I seem to do it pretty well myself, however, if you see mistakes and have some time, feel free to point them out to me.

Broken. Hollow. Alone. She walked on. The angry sky dumped buckets on her head, and yet she kept on. She had visited her everyday since she'd been put there and there was no way she would let a little tropical depression keep her from seeing her. Especially not today.

She'd memorized the path, no longer even needing to look up from the ground to step around the stones. Knowing she had arrived, she lifted her head slowly and laid her eyes upon her best friends grave.

"Didn't think I'd come, did ya? You know I'd never leave you all alone." Willow kneeled in the mud, letting her fingers graze lightly over Buffy's name etched on the stone, a small sad smile on her face.

"But it's not just a visit today. I have a question to ask you." Willow's face became more somber, if that was possible.

"I've found it. A way to bring you back, but it's very dark magic. I don't know if I should, or even if I could. And I'll need everyone's help. It won't be easy to convince them. Who am I kidding? I'm not a hero. You were always the hero. I wouldn't even consider trying this, but it's you. I just need you to be back. I love you and I never got to tell you. But I don't think I can do this. Maybe this is stupid." Finally at a loss for words, Willow just sat there silently and cried.

Willow emerged from the shower and toweled herself off before moving into what used to be Joyce's bedroom. Tara and Dawn were downstairs making dinner so Willow decided she'd use the quiet alone time to take a nap. She moved about the room getting dressed then switched the radio on low and laid down. She closed her eyes as the first few notes flitted to her ears.

"I am so high, I can hear heaven
I am so high, I can hear heaven
Whoa, but heaven...no, heaven don't hear me

And they say
That a hero could save us
I'm not gonna stand here and wait
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles
Watch as we all fly away"

A tear escaped one of Willows closed eyes, but she didn't move to wipe it. She just lied there and listened.

"Someone told me
Love would all save us
But, how can that be
Look what love gave us

A world full of killing
And blood spilling
That world never came

And they say
That a hero could save us
I'm not gonna stand here and wait
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles
Watch as we all fly away"

Memories started to fill Willow's head. All kinds of memories. Good memories, bad memories, scary memories. She remembered all the times Buffy had saved her and the look of worry in Buffy's eyes every time she got the slightest bump or bruise. All the times they'd averted the apocalypse. She felt the hole in her heart grow bigger with each memory.

"Now that the world isn't ending
It's love that I'm sending to you
It isn't the love of a hero
And that's why I fear it won't do"

Suddenly she knew what she had to do. She had to try. She realized the only thing holding her back was her fear of failure. She could do this. Would do this. For Buffy. For Dawn. For HER. She needed Buffy and it was time she did something about it.

"And they say
That a hero could save us
I'm not gonna stand here and wait
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles
Watch as we all fly away

And they're watching us
They're watching us
As we all fly away"

That night, Willow set to work. She got back on her computer, she made phone calls, she told her friends. They were gonna do this. She was gonna do this. And soon she'd be back. Her life. Her savior. Her Hero.
