Spoilers: A bit of end season six

"Party!" Xander yelled, a bit drunk.
"No bunnies" Anya replied, "I like parties without bunnies."
Willow smiled. She was eating chips and talking to Dawn.
"2003" Dawn was saying "can you believe it, a new year to fight evil"
"Yup" Willow replied "a new year, new demons, new end of the world, new..."
"Got it" Dawn said, cutting her off "don't depress me before midnight."
"Sorry" Willow said and turned her head toward Buffy and Spike.

"We need more beer love." Spike was telling Buffy.
"Spike, you're only her because its New Years Eve and I feel sorry for you, so shut up!"
"Right" Spike said "and you need some one to kiss at midnight."
"Don't count on it." Buffy said, before getting up and joining Xander and Anya.

Willow was watching Buffy intently. Since Tara died and she had tried to kill everyone, things weren't the same between Buffy and herself. Willow understood, she didn't derserve Buffy's friendship; anyone's for that matter. A new year was quickly approaching and she wanted to make things better between her and Buffy before then. Willow glanced at the clock, 10:20, it was time.

Xander was trying to explain how drunk he wasn't to Buffy and Anya. "Drunk" he said "would be me doing the Macarena in nothing but my boxer shorts."
"You were drunk that time?" Anya asked, a bit confused.
"Not a pretty picture." Buffy commented.
"Uh, Buffy.." Willow called, "can i see you in the kithen?'
"Sure" Buffy answered. Dawn's eyes were going back and forth between the two. Something was up with Willow, and watching her now she was pretty sure of what it was.

Willow headed toward the kitchen and Buffy followed, a bit nervous. Her and Willow hadn't had many heart to hearts lately. Buffy avoided that. Not because of the whole evil Willow thing, but for things Buffy didn't want to acknowledge.
Willow was standing against the sink wringing her hands.
'She's nervous too' Buffy thought, calming a bit to know she wasn't the only nervous one.

"Ok Will whats up?" Buffy asked, avoiding eye contact.
"I just thought we should talk" Willow said, "because, ya know, we haven't"
"Talk about what?" Buffy asked.
"Life, you, me, all of it" Willow replied, avoiding eye contact as well. Silence ensued. After about 2 minutes Buffy spoke.
"I'm here, talk." she said, rather harshly, and immediatly wanted to take it back. One look at Willow and Buffy saw such pain it startled her. "Sorry Will." She said softly.
"No, its me" Willow said, "I guess I just miss our friendship and I was wanting some alone time."
"What?" Buffy said, "Willow, we're fine, how could you miss our friendship when its never been gone?"
"You're right Buffy, its me I guess" Willow glanced at the clock, 11;05, time slipping by.

Buffy didn't want to face this. She looked into the living room, the others were talking and laughing. Xander was needling Spike, as usual, but noone seemed to miss the two. 'Maybe I need this' Buffy thought. 'Maybe I need to acknowledge... No, I don't'

Willow's mind was reeling. She had to make things better between her and Buffy. She had to tell Buffy how she felt, and why it scared her to death.
"Buffy look at me" Willow said, "We need to talk now"
Buffy saw the look in Willow's eyes and sat down.

"You know things haven't been the same since I got back" Willow said. "I understand, I do, heck I can't stand myself most of the time, but you're my best friend, my strength, my rock, I need you back Buffy." Tears had started to well up in Willows eyes. Buffy's heart was breaking for her best friend.
"Willow, it's not you" Buffy said gently "Its just Dawn and school and all this responsibility. I have alot on my mind. The whole Evil you was scary, but you were forgiven for that before it ended. You'll always be my best friend, I love you Willow" As Buffy said those words she relized not only how much she meant it, but how she meant it.

Willow smiled through her tears. She moved toward Bufy and hugged her. Willow felt Buffy's love and didn't want to let go. Buffy's body felt so good against her own. So familiar, so warm. Willow reluctantly pulled away but not completly. Their faces were close. Willow could feel Buffy's hot breathe, could smell her skin, she was close enough to...
Buffy pulled away in a jerk. 'Did I just lean in to kiss her?' She wondered, 'Did we just almost...'
"Hey Guys" Xander yelled, "Half hour to go, get in here."

They both left the kitchen quickly. Willow was nervous. She had wanted to kiss Buffy, and say so much more. Willow was so in love with Buffy it haunted her. Willow had loved Tara, loved her as much as one person could love. Yet Buffy had that one special spot in her heart that noone could touch
Buffy settled on the couch next to Dawn, Willow sat across from them. Spike tried to squeeze in next to Buffy, she pushed him off the couch. "Stay" she ordered. Spike smirked but obeyed. Buffy looked at Willow, 'I want to kiss her' Buffy thought. 'I want to spend the night in her arms, I want to...'
"Noisemaker?" Anya asked, interuppting Buffy's thoughts. handing her a baby rattle.
"A rattle?' Buffy asked
"My fault" Xander said "I didn't specify what kind of nose maker."
"You shake it, and it makes noise" Anya said, "So its a noisemaker."
"You're right." Xander sighed
Willow smiled at that. Buffy loved that smile.

"10 seconds" Dawn said, and they counted down with the TV. "5-4-3-2-1-Happy New Year!" The house was filled with baby rattle shaking and hugs. Buffy pushed past Spike and went to Willow. Buffy wrapped Willow in her arms and everone else dissappeared. "Happy New Year Willow" Buffy whispered.
Willow had her eyes closed, savoring the closeness, forgetting everything but Buffy. "I love you" Willow whispered. Buffy pulled back slightly to look in willow's eyes.
Without thinking they both leaned in and kissed lightly on the lips. The kiss turned harder yet gentle, deep, passionate, not lasting nearly as long as it should.
"Whoa" Xander exclaimed, "and that came from where?"
They both finally pulled apart and turned around to a room full of dropped jaws.

"I had to kiss someone at midnight" Buffy said, not embarrassed or flustered at all. "who better than the woman I love?"
Willow smiled bigger than she had in a long time. She looked at her friends and than at Buffy. "I'm so in love with you" Willow said.
Buffy put her arm around Willow and pulled her closer."Same here" she said. "Always"
Dawn smiled. "It's about time" she said, Xander and Anya nodded in agreement. Spike looked confused, then angry, then resigned to the fact in front of him.
"Oh bloody hell"

They all laughed. "Its going to be a great year" Willow said, and pulled Buffy into a fierce embrace.
"A great rest of our lives" Buffy whispered. Finally finding the peace she so searched for. Finally being herself.
