Chapter 26

[reviews]

48 hours later:

Out in the freshly cut back yard of Alexandra Robert's rented home, a girl wearing low slung, blue jeans and a tight green tee was smoothing out the edges of the white blanket she'd brought out a mere hour earlier. Buffy Summers then proceeded to light the 4 long, cream colored candles she'd brought for this momentous occasion. Once done, the compact blonde walked to the middle of the blanket and took a critical look around. She was standing less than 3 feet from the back door, facing the wooden kitchen chair she had wrestled outside earlier that day. It was, in her estimations, perfect positioning. While Alex would remain hidden in the shadows of the porch, she and Willow would be, ideally, framed by the soft glow of the candle light and the full moon that resided over her head.

It ain't a drive-in, she thought to herself, but it'll have to do!

The Slayer bent down and hit the play button of Alex's boom box. Soon, soft 70's rock began to waft through the still night air. It had taken her and Willow a full day to decide on what music to listen too. In the end, they went for the type that Alex would recognize as being from her complicated youth. Buffy couldn't help but smiling bittersweetly as she pivoted upon her heel and went to collect Alex and, what was sure to be, her nervous lover.

Inside the kitchen, Willow Rosenberg was chewing on the tender insides of her lower lip as she stared into the dark Southerner's perfectly blank expression. The redhead knew that, very shortly, she'd have to give an Oscar winning performance without giving into
her own baser instincts. It was going to be a damn hard thing to do but the Hacker/Witch remained hopeful that she and Buffy could pull it off without compromising themselves too much.

That's going to be, she couldn't stop thinking, a majorly tricky proposition!

"Well, Alex, I hope your ready for tonight because I'm Not! Me and Buffy agreed, though, this is something that has to be done. Neither one of us can take you being like This anymore. It tears me apart, thinking that you could remain looked up inside your own mind. So I'm going to say something and I really hope you can understand me. I wish, on some level, our actions tonight will break through to you."

The redhead, in a purely nervous habit, ran a hand through her tousled hair. She too was dressed casually, in faded blue jeans and a tight, white tee shirt. It wasn't that she doubting the Slayer's intentions. No, it was more that she wasn't at all sure how she would react once things went to the physical level. The slender Wiccan's nerves where stretched beyond the word taunt by the constant, never ending, worry about That moment. During the day, Willow was highly successful with putting those thoughts into the back of her mind. Nighttime, however, was a totally different story. It had
reached the point of where she was almost certain that Giles suspected something. That man, of course, never made mention of it when in their company. Giles thoughts where reflected in the very pointed looks he threw her and Buffy's way. Willow's musings were cut short by the sound of her lover walking onto the porch.

Buffy stuck her head through the back door and tried to grin reassuringly at both Wills and the dark woman.

Wow, baby, we really gotta get you to take a chill pill, thought the Slayer after witnessing the other girl's panicked facial expression.

"Relax, babe, I got your back. I swear, on the thought of losing my beloved Mr. Gordo that we'll only go as far as you want. 'Kay, Wills? FYI, may I say that you look utterly tasty tonight."

The blonde was gratified to watch That look filter off the redhead's face. She knew, naturally, how hard this was going to be for Willow Rosenberg. Her awe of her lover's strong disposition flared higher as that girl smiled back at her.

"It's time, Will, you ready?"

The Witch, who'd been expecting those words all day, still couldn't help twitching at their sound. She regretted it after seeing the sad look that flashed across her lover's hazel gaze.

"Not really, Buffy, but let's do this thing anyway."

As the blonde stepped out of the way, to let Willow and Alex make their way out on the porch, an insanely proud grin overtook her face.

"Damn," Buffy's brain was shouting in glee, " my baby sure got it going on!"
