Chapter 30 24 hours later

Buffy and Willow where, presently, ensconted in the livingroom trying to figure out a way to tell the rest of their friends the news about themselves. Neither girl was having too much sucesss even Alex tell that though she was in the kitchen preparing her favorite kinda dinner: breakfest! Bread was already in the toaster, bacon was cooking away in the microwave while she stood at the stove scrambling some fuffy looking eggs. The Southerner actually thought they'd have a perfectly ordinary evening, that is, right up until her front door bell began it's incessant ringing. Suspecting WHOM would be standing out on her door step, she told the teens to hang out because she was the one who'ed be answering the door.

" Afternoon, Joyce, have you come to join us for some dinner?"

As there was no censor in that question, the older blonde simply smiled at the slightly, smirking Southerner.

" Thank you no, Alex, I'm afraid that isn't why I'm here. May I come in?"

The grining dark woman chose to answer by stepping aside and allowing the Slayer's Mom into her home.

" Will and Buffy are in the livingroom, I'll be in the kitchen getting the food ready. Good luck, Joyce."

Alexandra Roberts then pivoted upon her heel, resoultly choosing to ignore the other woman's gentle thanks.

The blonde woman thought it best to make heavy steps as she began walking into the bright livingroom. Joyce pulled up short, however, after spying the rather intimate way her daughter and best friend where sitting. The teens where perched So close together that Joyce really couldn't see any space between the girls. After a moment, she had to silently admit that Alexandra had been perfectly right. Buffy and Willow where awfully, damn, cute together! Joyce had to smile because she realised, in that instance, that it didn't bother her at all to see them That way.

The Slayer, who'd been strocking one of her thumbs over the red head's inner wrist, stiffened as she became aware of another's presance in the room.

" Mom?"

" Hello, baby, Willow. Girl's, I think it's high time you two be honest with me, don't you?"

The older woman then crossed her arms over her cheast as she waited for either teen to respond to her.

" Mrs. Summers maybe..maybe you should take a seat."

The Wiccan's eyes where quite huge as she watched Joyce follow her sage advice. Beside her, the quiet Slayer was trying to kick her brain back into gear.

" What, Mom, do you want to talk about?"

Joyce realised that Buffy wasn't trying to be a smart ass, she'd merely said the first words that came to mind. Therefore, it was only gentle concern that she stated her case.

" Buffy, you and Willow have, how shall I say, reached a new closeness. I just want to know why you weren't going to share this news with me?!? And when was it, Buffy, that you and Willow became more than just best friends?"

The questions where perfectly valid ones, both teens realised honesty was going to be the best policy this time around. Joyce Summer's faught to hide her grin as she watched the teens link hands before trying to answer her.

" Mom." " Mrs. Summers."

Clear hazel eyes locked with warm, green orbs as they realised only one of them could answer at a time. A silent conversation passed between them and the older blonde was shocked that it was the red head who picked up the mantle.

" We finally became a couple because, ironically, it was Alex who set some things straight for us. I thought Buffy was utterly beautiful, from the first day we met, but Never thought I'd have a chance to more than just a friend. My Slayer, as I've since been told, resisted all because she was afraid for me. Can you belive That?!?!"

Willow paused to gaze at her blonde lover, whom smiled back at her with this aching tenderness. For an endless moment, Buffy and Willow hung there, connected only to one another, safe in their love. Joyce found it all too precious but she still wanted more of that story.

" And then?"

All parties where surprised to find that it was Buffy whom picked up the thread of conversation.

" You could say we where pissing away of chance at mutual happiness because honsestly, Mom, that's as close to the truth as it gets. On the night we put everything out in the open, I did it knowing full well that my life is nothing without Willow in it. You should be proud that I had the courage to revel my deepest heart and that Will had the guts to accept me for all that I am because she didn't have to, ya know?!? She makes me insanely happy and also, Mom, a far better person than I have any right to be. In short, Willow Rosenberg completes me."

By this time the Witch, Joyce, and even the dark woman who hadn't even been trying to listen to this conversation, had tears within their eyes. Willow was awed that Buffy would speak about all her hidden emotions and Joyce Summers was completly delighted to hear her daughter talk with open honesty.

" I want you to know, Mrs. Summers, that I love Buffy with all that I am. She's always been the first thing I think about in the mornings and it's her name I hear as the last word in the evenings. She is the Best thing to ever happen to me and, sometimes, I kinda find it hard to believe that it's me she loves!"

" Oh, Willow, don't you know by now that my daughter doesn't give her heart with very much ease? Buffy will love you to the best of her ability, I can assure you of that."

The Slayer, in the meantime, was heartsick to hear the insecurity in her lover's voice.

" Will, haven't you guessed yet that your the only reason my heart still yet beats? You are a beautiful, intelligent, warm, infanitly sexy, caring woman and your sense of humor has always had the abilitys to bring me down to my knees. Baby, I was yours from the first moment we connected at the water fountain."

" Oh Buffy," Willow never got the chance to finish because with one, surprisingly, serious look, the compact blonde shut her up.

" Sh, love, I'm not done. I wanted you then, almost, as much as I want you right now. Label me crazy but I don't forsee That ever changing. I know I can't offer you much but I give you this vow. I will love you, Willow Rosenberg, past the day of my eventual death. There's nothing, not the Hellmouth, not Spike-Drucilla or even Angel, not the assorted evil that is sure to come my way, nothing can keep me from loving you. It's as I told you before, sweetheart, I'm yours for however long you want me."

By now, of course, both teens had long forgotten about Joyce being in the room. The older woman was, slowly, backing out of the livingroom, trying desperately to not to shed a copius amount of tears. While she'd always been happy that Willow had been there for Buffy, not even she'd realised the depths to her daughter's feelings! It gladened her to know that Buffy possessed the courage to accept that she had fallen head over heels for the red head. She was also gratified that Willow Rosenberg had the balls to utterly love her kid, Slayer side included. Maybe, God willing, they'd make it and Not end up like half the world's population, herself included. The Slayer's Mom found herself pausing by the kitchen to lock eyes with the wistfully, smiling dark haired woman whom was reclying at the kitchen table.

" You where right, Alexandra Roberts, they are simply beautiful to watch. How could I have been so blind?"

Those words left the dark Southerner grinning with a cockiness that was laced with open enjoyment.

" I know, Joyce, believe me, I know. As for not seeing, chalk that up to the fact that most people simply don't possess my overt visualness."

" Perhaps I should, I don't know, head back to my own home?"

The blonde was then witness to one of Alex's patented frowns.

" Ah, Joyce, you don't really have to rush off, do ya? Dinners ready, by the way. You treated me to a cup of coffee, allow me the chance to repay your kindess. ' Sides, maybe you'll let me pick your brain because I really want to know how you raised such great but headstrong kid all on your own."

Joyce debated with herself for about a half second before walking fully into the marvellous smelling room.

" It's a deal, Alexandra, so long as you realise I want to know more about you."

The Southerner, who'd already stood and began pouring the afore metioned hot liquid, couldn't resist chuckling quite loudly. When she turned back around to face the Slayer's Mom, devilish lights where flashing back within her darkening gaze.

" Hell, maybe I should rename myself open book!"
