Chapter 33 the near future

A great many things had changed since the first moment Alexandra Roberts had stepped foot into Buffy and Willow's lives. Xander and Anya, after all these years, where now happily married. Rupert Giles and Joyce Summers where openly dating and, surprisingly, the Slayer was totally okay with this knowledge. Over in LA, Angel and Cordilia where still going strong in their realationship which had, in the begining, stunned everyone in Sunnydale. The Big Bad, of course, still caused problems in the California town but it was nothing that Buffy couldn't handle. Willow had become one of the world's most powerful witches and everyone was glad that her tender heart still ruled her emotions. Speaking of Buffy, she'd become a veritable legend with the Councial as she was the oldest living Slayer on record!

The two, young women, not surprisingly, where still head over heels for one another, their love only seemed to deepen and flurish through the ensuing years. Witch and Slayer now resided in the house that Alex once called her own. That had been the Southerner's final gift to the couple. The news, naturally, had floored both girl's. It hadn't seemed quite real, not until the door keys where placed within their capable hands.

Presently, both young women happened to be sitting out on the back porch, drinking heartily from their Pepsi(tm) cans. It should be stated that neither Willow nor Buffy could take a look at the back yard without, fondly, recalling precisely What had almost happened right out there. The red head, after first taking another sip of her ice, cold, drink, turned and locked eyes with her beloved Slayer.

" Two years, can you believe, it's the 2 year anniversary of our first meeting with Alex!?!? God, it seems just like yeasterday to me. I've been missing her quite a bit, how 'bout you, Buffy?"

" You know it, babe," said the smirking blonde, " I don't think there will ever be a day when we don't miss that women."

Buffy Summers then touched her can to the other woman's, there by astounding her lover.

" To Alexandra Katherine Roberts. Here's to hoping her life has finally found a little peace and may one day we all be in a place where we can meet for a much needed visit."

If there happened to be more than a little bit of censor in the Slayer's voice, it was only because they hadn't actually seen the dark woman in over a 12 month period.

" Here, here," proclaimed a delighted Willow, " to our Alex."

With that, the women drained their cans. To honor the memory of their friend, they stood and began swaying together in the cool night air. They had now way of knowing that, a thousand of miles away, a dark haired woman was attempting to put forth her own vow. The Southerner, with those laughing gray eyes, was unsucessful due to the fact she was holding a squirming, 4 year old in her arms.

" Hush, Bug, and let your Aunt do what she's got to do,'kay?"

There had, naturally, been a period of adjustment for Alexandra, her family and friends. They all, to a person, knew what she'd done in California but, to their credit, none had called her upon it yet. Life had, finally, settled back to being normal just 6, short months ago.

Today had been a Great day for Alex and her young neice. First, they spent some time down at the park, on the swings. Because she wasn't the type of woman to merely sit along the side lines, they'ed had a deliriously, giddy time swinging to their heart's content. Then the Southerner had taken Julianna Grace Baxter for a leisure walk along the railroad tracks down by her Grandma's house. They had made their way to the open trestle which had, at one time or another, scared all the neighborhood kids.

Alex Roberts had been laughing when she'd set the child upon her shoulder's and, calmly, sauntered her way out to the very middle of the train's over pass. They'ed taken a seat at the trestle's edge and Julianna had lots of fun tossing rocks off into the water far below their feet. It had been getting dark by the time they had made their way back to the ole home place. Alex and the child had just passed the last hour chasing fireflies around the yard. The wee girl was more than a little wound up by the days activitys which is why Alex was having such trouble.

But then, like a gift from God, her neice actually seemed to understand what Alex had been telling her for the past 10 minutes. As a cool breeze washed over her frame, Alexandra Roberts sent out her own wish under a canapy of bright starlight.

" May Willow and Buffy remain blissfully happy together because, God knows, they deserve too. And please, one day soon, allow me the chance to see my friends again. Happy anniversary, guys."

With those words, Alex and her giggling niece began walking back towards the house. As the woman stared down into the little girl's blue-gray eyes and idea suddenly occured to her.

" You know, Julia, maybe one day, when your just a little older, I'll tell you about the time I met a Witch and the Vampire Slayer! Would you like that , sugar?"

The child was vigorously shacking her head yes as she and her smirking Aunt stepped back into the home.

So ends my tale the Slayer, Witch and a Southerner. Thanks for taking the ride with me!
