September 10
Buffy, Xander, and Willow were sitting in the common area at lunch time chatting up a storm. The subject of pranking people on April fools day managed to come up, thanks largely in part to Xander and his plans to exact revenge against the people who made fun of him all the time. Buffy got a kick out of most of the stories Xander was telling about pranks he had pulled on Cordelia in past years, her favorite so far about how he had snuck into the girls locker room and glued all of her non-gym clothes to her locker their freshmen year. Buffy was curious about Willow though, she didn't seem the type to play practical jokes on people, but she got the impression by the redhead's reaction to Xander's stories that she had played her share.
"Hey Will, what about you, you like April fools day?" she asked, expecting a response she could laugh at. The shy girl hesitated to respond until concerned looks from the slayer finally got to her.
"April fools day is the worst day of the year. I have still yet to forget that one day in the seventh grade where Cordelia and the brat pack decided to prank me into believing they actually liked me...and the worst part was that I actually believed them for a while, although I'm still not sure why it is that I wanted them to like me in the first place cause hello...don't like Cordelia...but I suppose I was a different person back then...however I'm not sure..."
"Does she do this often?" Buffy questioned regarding willow's semi-coherent babbling. Buffy had only been friends with the childhood buddies for a week or so and was still struggling to get to know all of their quirks; this one seemed to be interesting though. Willow was so cute when she babbled.
'But wait, did I just think that. Willow's not cute, at least not in a I like you and want to jump you after school kinda way...but then again...no, Buffy, calm down, she's a friend don't ruin it!' Buffy thought as Xander answered her question.
"Yeah, all the time, although you get used to it and usually don't realize she's doing it after a while, it a willow-ism that you'll learn to love" he said, smiling at the redhead with a friendly affection that made willow go weak at the knees.
'why can't he just realize I'm here, and that I am so in love with him that it hurts to not say something...but then again, Buffy is really hot sitting over there just giggling at us...wait...did I just think that? No way, I mean, Buffy is a very attractive girl, why would I not think that? I dunno, maybe cause you're straight and not supposed to think about those types of things' she answered herself 'goddess willow, get a grip, and stop drooling before someone notices you' willow giggled to herself, realizing that she babbled in her thoughts as much as she did while speaking out loud. The conversation between the friends continued with Xander, oblivious to everything going on around him began to tell a tale about filling Cordelia's book bag with Jell-O.

March 31
Willow and Buffy were walking down the street toward the Bronze when a newly risen vampire came out to feed on some seemingly weak girls walking down the darkened streets. Buffy's spider senses went off and she grabbed willow's arm, causing goose-bumps to creep up from beneath the other girl's skin. Buffy, not realizing the effect she had on the other girl leaned in to whisper in her ear.
"Will, I can feel it, there's a vamp out here somewhere, I need you to go over by the door frame over there and hide till I find him, and I can't have you getting hurt." Before the redhead could protest, Buffy nudged her in the direction of a darkened doorstep and withdrew her stake from her jacket sleeve. The slayer crept into the center of the alley as she turned and saw a fist coming at her face; she ducked, but only managed to give the vamp a better shot as his fist contacted her nose instead of her chin. She grunted in pain and swung at the vampire's legs with her foot, successfully tripping him and sending him to the ground with a thud. She shoved her stake into his chest and he burst into a cloud of dust before her. She stood and began to dust herself off as the redhead in the doorstep let her breath, which she hadn't realized she'd been holding, when she realized the slayer was ok. The girl felt something strange within her body but shrugged it off as nerves from the vampire attack as she slowly approached the slayer.
"So, you ready to go?" she asked
"Absolutely, I'm ready for just about anything now. I've got one successful slay under my belt for tonight, now its time to blow off some steam." With that Buffy linked her arm in Willow's and led the girl all the way to the Bronze, where the walked inside into a pulsating beat and heavy crowd.
"You want a drink?" the blonde asked her friend.
"Yeah, sure...how bout a coke?" Buffy nodded and walked toward the bar, leaving her friend at the table. Willow instinctively turned and watched as her best friend made her way through the crowd for drinks. She couldn't help but notice how good she looked from behind with her new form fitting leather pants and that shirt...wow, that shirt sure didn't leave much to the imagination. Willow's thoughts kicked in then and chided her about her impure thoughts toward her best friend.
'What are you doing Willow? You can't be thinking about Buffy like that, she's your best friend, besides, if you don't just give up on this crazy fantasy of yours, you're sure to get your heart broken when you realize she doesn't like you like that. Come on Will, get over it, and stop watching her before somebody notices.'
"Enjoying the show?" a familiar voice caught willow off guard from behind her. She slowly turned around and snapped out of her daze to find Xander Harris with the grin of a Cheshire cat. "So, Will, anything you'd like to tell me?" Xander had known about Willow being bisexual since they entered high school and he saw her checking out a pretty girl at the mall, he hadn't really ever thought too much about it, but he still liked to tease her from time to time. As she turned to see her favorite childhood friend grinning mercilessly at her, her face had succumbed to a bright blush that anyone in the club could easily notice.
"Xand, what are you talking about? I'm just making sure she gets there alright, I mean...the trip to the bar could be dangerous, especially with all those people between here and there...she could get hurt, or worse...and who am I kidding I was totally checking her out" she finally conceded, letting her friend know that she was interested in the girl.
"So, you like her? I mean, like like her? Cause that's totally cool with me, I mean, if you ever need a manly chaperone or a chauffer or anything like that to come with you on dates and make sure you're all tucked in safe together at night you know I'm there..." he was shut up soundly by a smack on the back of the head courtesy of Willow.
"I don't think she likes me like that Xand. I don't even think she's gay, or bi, or whatever. I think I'm in way over my head here."
"well, you never know till you try Will, she may turn out to be the knight in shining armor that I never was" he replied seriously, thinking back on the night he realized that willow had been in love with him for years and how stupid he had been for not noticing it. He knew from that point on that he could never be what she needed, and she realized that he wasn't the one for her. After considering what he said for a minute she responded quietly.
"What harm can be done in trying?"
