Chapter 5

[reviews]

Willow arched her back as the power made it's way through her. She had been terrified the night before, afraid of what this was going to feel like. She had imagined many things, but she never pictured it feeling like this. She was scared that it would feel so good that she was going t lose control and become evil again. That wasn't going to happen.

"Willow?" Kennedy asked, watching as Willow's face contorted in pain. She tried to reach forward, not knowing what she was going to do, just knowing that she had to help the witch. She raised a hand out to touch her face, but quickly withdrew it at the jolt of pain that shot through her left arm. "Will, you're starting to scare me."

"Hecated, hear ... me...Goddess of ...the...light...I call thee..."

"Willow!" Willow's hair changed rapidly from her natural beautiful red, to white, to jet-black right in front of Kennedy's eyes. She once again attempted to touch the witch, this time she was shot back a couple of inches. She quickly got to her feet, deciding it was safest the further away from Willow she was.

"Something's...wrong..." Willow panted out, trying to ignore the pain running throughout her entire body. Suddenly she tasted the blood on her lip and she realized that her nose was bleeding. That was always a sign of black magic.

"I can see that," Kennedy comments from her position in the doorway. She doesn't want to leave Willow alone, but she can hear the screaming coming from the basement and she can see Dawn and Xander trying to fight off some of the Turok-Han vamps that escaped the others. She turns back to Willow and watches as she tries to fight whatever is happening. "What do I do?"

"Not going to...happen," Willow says to herself, trying to stop herself from continuing the spell. There is no way it was ever going to work now, it was too late anyway, and she just had to stop herself before she let the magic take over her. It was only going to get worse for here. "Won't let...it happen again."

"Um, Will?" Kennedy called, watching as Xander dusted two Turok-Han vamps that had been on Dawn. "What's going on? Is this spell working or what?" Kennedy watched in amazement as the light that had been all around Willow disappeared and Willow's shoulder's slumped, her hair was red again. Kennedy immediately ran to Willow's side.

"Goddess."

"Are you okay?" she asked as she held Willow's check, checking to make sure that her eyes weren't black. "Did it work?" A tear slid down Willow's cheek as she slowly shook her head.

"No," she whispered. She held up the scythe and put it in Kennedy's hand. "Get this to Buffy. Tell her it didn't work." Kennedy nodded and ran out the door. Willow laid down on her back for a second, trying to get her emotions under control. She bolted upright at the sound of Dawn screaming. "Dawnie!" Her own problems quickly forgotten, she ran out the door and in the direction the screaming was coming from. When she reached them, what she saw made her want to scream too. Xander was lying lifeless on the ground; blood pouring from his throat and Dawn was trapped under a vamp. "Off!" The vamp was send flying off of the teenager and slammed into the wall.

"Willow!" Dawn cried, gathering herself off the floor and running to Xander's side. She watched helplessly as Willow continued to kill the Turok-Han vamps as they approached. She could hear the screaming coming from the basement and knew that Willow wasn't going to be able to hold them all off when they finally made there way up.

"The spell didn't work," Willow called over her shoulder, as she waited from the next vamp to come at her.

"Why?"

"There was someone blocking it," she answered as the next vamp charged at her. She held out her hands, and it burst into flames. "They'll all be coming up soon," she said, killing another vamp that was just making it's way down the hall. "I can't hold them all off."

"What are we going to do?"

"Dawnie, I want you gone," Willow ordered her, turning her head to watch the entrance to the basement for anymore vamps that were going to come out. Dawn looked up at her in shock.

"What?"

"Get out of here," she repeated. "I know that if we fail there will be no safe place for you, but there's still a second line. I need you safe." Dawn laid Xander's head on the floor carefully and stood up.

"I'm not going anywhere," she stated, her voice not waving a bit. She took a step closer to Willow. "You guys are my family, Buffy, you, Xander and Giles. I'm not leaving you."

"Go!"

"No," she said. "If you're dying, I'm dying." Willow clenched her jaw, wishing that Dawn wasn't made of Summers blood. She was just as stubborn as Buffy. Before Willow could argue anymore she heard the doors burst open and saw Buffy come running out. "Buffy!"

"They're coming!" she called as she continued to run down the hall. On instinct alone, Willow pushed Dawn to the ground, in the direction of the door and got into fighting stance, hands and head held high. Buffy finally made it to Willow's side, panting for breath. She was almost completely covered in blood. "All of them, they're all gone. Faith, Spike, Kennedy...everyone."

"It's go time," Willow mumbled, gathering all the power she had left in her. Dawn, still on the floor, watch in horror as hundreds of vamps came bursting through the doors that Buffy had just come through. Willow narrowed her eyes as her fingertips crackled with unused power. "Bring it on."

"You know we're gonna die, right?" Buffy asked, standing up straight, preparing for what she knew was going to be her very last fight. She had gone into battles before knowing they were out numbered, or overpowered, but she always knew that there was a chance that they would win. This was the first time that she knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that they weren't walking out of there alive. She just prayed that they took the First with them.

"Not without a fight," Willow replied. Suddenly, a bright light shot out of Willow's hands and the first round of Uber vamp's burst in flames. Their screams of agony echoed throughout the entire school. When Willow was sure she had a few seconds until the next bunch came out, she lowered her hands and rested them on her knees, taking deep and labored breathes.

"Whoa," Buffy exclaimed, her eyes wide as she watched the last vamp turn to dust. She looked at Willow who was trying to catch her breath. "There must have been like five hundred of them."

"Yeah."

"And you just dusted them all like they were nothing," Buffy pointed out. She heard more vamps coming up the stairs. She watched the door nervously. "Think you can do it again?"

"I'm gonna try," she answered, taking a deep breath and standing up straight. The next round of vamps came out, unfortunately bigger than the first, and charged full speed ahead. Willow closed her eyes tight and blasted them again, it took every ounce of power she had left in her to dust them all again. As soon as they were dusted, she fell to her knees, with Buffy not far behind.

"Buffy?" Dawn asked, finally getting to her feet. Buffy turned around surprised, not knowing that her sister was there. She smiled sadly at her; happy that she wasn't hurt, but knowing that wasn't going to last for much longer.

"Go look for the others," Buffy ordered. "I don't think many vamps got past. Go see if they're still alive." Dawn nodded her head and began to run in the opposite direction, but stopped.

"What if they are?"

"Tell them I want them out of here," Buffy ordered. She saw that Dawn was about to protest. "I want whoever is alive to get on a bus and go to Angel's. They're gonna need all the help they can get."

"Okay," Dawn continued on her way to find the others.

"I want you gone with them!" Buffy called out to her. Dawn shook her head and went in search of Giles and Robin. Buffy turned her attention back to Willow, who was still trying to catch her breath. "Will?"

"I can't," she gasped, holding her stomach. "I don't have anything let."

"Nothing?"

"I'm sorry," she answered, shaking her head. She looked up into Buffy's eyes and for the first time, she accepted that they were going to die. She was just happy that she was with Buffy. "I'm done. It's over." Buffy took Willow by the shoulders.

"It's not over," she told her. "As long as we're alive, it's never over. There's not many left, there's maybe two hundred more down there." Willow shook her head.

"I have nothing left," she repeated. "There is not one bit of power left in me." She looked down. "I can't do it." Buffy's fingertips traced the outline of Willow's jaw, gently lifting her head up so she could look her in the eyes.

"Not alone," Buffy whispered. "I can help you, you can use my power." She leaned forward and left a chaste kiss on her best friend's lips. "We can do this together."

"I don't know it I can..."

"I do," Buffy stated. "I know you can do it." She looked over to the door; her slayer hearing was able to hear the remanding vamps making their way up. "I know you, Will, and you don't give up. You could never stop as long as there is even one breath left in you." Buffy took Willow's face in between her hands and pulled her closer in a last desperate attempt to show her how she felt.

She closed her eyes and brought her lips crashing into Willow's. This kiss wasn't like the one before. There was nothing chaste about it. It was hunger, it was need, it was desperation and it was love. Buffy need to show Willow everything that she felt in one kiss, she needed to show Willow that there was still a chance to live. She pushed her tongue past Willow's lips and sought out the comfort of the other girl's mouth and tangled with the tongue she found there. Her hands moved off of Willow's face and found their way into her hair as Willow did the same. Neither girl had ever had a kiss like this; they could both feel the power and energy being passed through them. They were both filled with a sense of new hope.

The basement doors burst open and a few hundred vamps came running out, headed right for them. They didn't even flinch, let alone stop the heated kissed they were currently sharing. The power that was rising up between them radiated past their connected bodies and spread out, creating a ripple effort. The heat cut right through the line of Turok-Han vamps heading their way. The heat was enough to set the vamps on fire.

"They're on the bus!" Dawn yelled, running back down the hall. She stopped dead in her tracks, amazed at the sight of Buffy and Willow kissing just a few feet in front of her. She tore her eyes off the couple to watch in awe as the Ubervamp all burst into dust at the same time. The second the vamps were gone, all the air was sucked out of the room and the girls pulled apart, neither aware of what just happened.

"Buffy?" Willow whispered as she slowly opened her eyes. She looked over at the chair to see Buffy opening her eyes as well. She had the same satisfied look on her face as Willow figured was on her's.

"Will?" Buffy mumbled, coming to. She pulled herself up into a sitting position and looked down to realize that she was holding Willow's hand. She carefully lifted herself out of the chair and sat down on Willow's bedside. "You okay?"

"That was some kiss." Buffy laughed.

"I'm assuming that means you're okay," Buffy said, a warm smile on her face. Willow nodded her head frantically.

"Oh, yeah."

"So, that was real?"

"Well, we both remember it, so I guess so," Willow answered. She looked down at their linked hands. "I think you followed me into my head or something. You were connected to me through our linked hands."

"So, we beat it?" Buffy asked, not really sure of what had just happened. Willow shrugged her shoulders.

"For now," Willow replied. "We didn't kill whoever it was, but I can't feel him in my head anymore. I guess all I had to do was not die in the dream. It was kind of like a test I guess."

"We passed," Buffy cheered. Willow gave her a huge smile and nodded her head.

"Yeah, we passed," Willow confirmed. "Together." Willow closed her eyes as Buffy laid her hands on either side of her face and reached up to kiss her forehead.

"I told you so."

"You surely did." Buffy pulled back, dropping a quick kiss on Willow's lips and sat up straight.

"We'll beat whoever this is the same way," she began. She squeezed Willow's hand. "Together."

Done for now. This is the first chapter I have written for this story in forever. I re-read the last two chapters and I had no idea what I was planning on happening when I wrote it. So if this doesn't really make any sense, I'm really sorry. Anyway, please tell me what you think. Thanks. Peace.
