Part 27

Tom edged closer to the Slayer and Willow.

"Buffy?"

She growled at him, and he stopped moving. Lowering her head, she nuzzled Willow's neck, purring as she did so.

Tom threw a nervous look at Jonny and Giles, before all three moved as one.

Giles grabbed for Willow, while the other two grabbed for Buffy.

All three of them touched only air.

Buffy's eyes glowed and she looked at the three men, before her attention turned back to Willow.

Willow, for the life of her, wasn't scared. But she did want to know what was going on, and no-one had answered her question from before.

Turing to fully face Buffy, she raised a hand and cupped her lover's face.

"What's happening?"

Buffy cocked her head to the side, eerily animal like.

A frowned marred her face, before she pushed Willow away from her and into the arms of Giles.

No-one moved, each watching the struggle the Slayer was going through.

When she collapsed to her knees, Willow freed herself from Giles grip and dropped to her own beside her.

"Buffy?" reaching out, she rested her hand on Buffy's shoulder, only to have the blonde flinch away from her and stand.

"Giles, tell her... tell her everything." turning, Buffy ran away.

Tom nodded to Jonny and both of them slipped away after their charge.

Willow turned to Giles, a big question in her eyes.

He sighed and took his glasses off to clean them.

"Come inside Willow. There are things about Buffy that you need to know."

-----

Giles waited until Willow was seated before sitting down facing her.

"Willow, what do you know about the source of the Slayer?"

Willow frowned and tilted her head.

"Only what you and Buffy have told me, why?"

He took his glasses off to clean them.

"Have you ever wondered why the Slayer is called the Vampire Slayer?"

Willow shook her head no.

"Willow, the reason the Slayer's main enemy is Vampire's, is because they are the same at their core-" Willow went to interrupt but Giles held up his hand -" When the Watchers of the past made the first Slayer, they took the essence of a demon and forced it inside a human girl. You remember the first explanation I ever gave you on how Vampire's came to be?"

"The last true demon, before being banished, fed off a human, mixed their blood, and created vampires."

Giles nodded his head, before taking a deep breath.

"It is that demon from which Buffy's powers come from."

Willow blinked, then blinked again.

"Could you elaborate of that?"

Giles gave her a half smile.

"At her core, the Slayer shares attributes with the creatures she hunts. When Buffy connected with that deeper part of herself, she unlocked those attributes, and now they are as much a part of her as is the fact that's she is human. Vampire's are many things, cunning, evil, vicious, but they are also loyal, protective and family driven - point in case is Angelus and his brood. Buffy shares these aspects of the demon, minus the evil. And she is stronger than Vampire's for the very reason that the demon inside them has been forced to live in a human body, its powers weakened. Being placed into the girl who would be the first Slayer, didn't had that effect as the power share was not transferred through blood, but through magic, blood and a little higher intervention."

Willow paused to take all that in and Giles took the opportunity to take a sip of water.

"So what happened today then?"

"The Slayer demon - for want of a better name - has only one goal, to hunt the demons, the Vampire's. You complicate things."

Willow frowned, not sure on how to take that.

Giles saw the frown and reached over to cover her hand with his own.

"I mean no harm Willow. Because Buffy loves you unconditionally, with all her being, that includes the Slayer demon. It doesn't understand love, it only understands need and possession. It wants you to belong to it, for the simple reason that Buffy loves you, it feels you through her."

Willow leaned back and closed her eyes.

"How do you know all this?"

Giles scratched at his head and laughed a little.

"Buffy has been concerned with this from the moment we discovered the truth regarding slayers. At first, she was scared - truth be told, she still is - but she trusts you, and she trusts the Slayer inside to not harm you in any way. You remember of course the night Buffy was calling for you, and you helped calm her down? That was the Slayer at the forefront."

Willow stood up and began pacing the room.

"What does it expect from me?"

Giles looked up and met her eyes.

"You don't have to do anything you don't wish to Willow."

"Giles - tell me."

He sighed and stood up as well, closing the distance between them and taking her hand in his.

"It wants you as it's Mate."

Willow's eyes widened and she took a step back.

"Wow Giles, back up. That kinda sounded like you said-"

"Mate. Yes."

Willow took another step back and began shaking her head no.

"Explain that for me please."

"There are rituals involved, both magic and blood rituals that will bind you and Buffy together, so that even in death, you would still be able to feel the other."

Willow kept back pedalling.

"Giles, I love Buffy I do, but that sounds like a forever type of thing, as in 'til death do us part'"

He nodded his head.

"Only without the parting."

Sitting down with a thump, not caring that there was no chair behind her, Willow buried her head in her hands.

"Giles, I'm not ready for that. I love her, so much, but marriage? We've only just gotten back together."

Giles knelt on the floor beside Willow and took her into his arms.

"Its okay Willow, you don't have to do anything."

Willow pulled back and looked at him.

"What about the Slayer? What about Buffy?"

He gave her a small smile before standing, bringing Willow up with him and leading her to the couch.

"The Slayer and Buffy are one in the same, you can't separate the two any longer Willow. Buffy understands how important, how life changing this is, which is why she hasn't let the Slayer force the issue."

Willow frowned before her eyes widened.

"Earlier, she got control of herself. What was the Slayer going to do?"

Giles couldn't hide his blush.

"I can only guess, but I think she was going to mark you the only way she could without the rituals involved."

Willow frowned as she tried to figure out what he was talking-

"Sex."

Giles nodded and cleaned his glasses.

Willow sighed and made her way to the door.

"I think I need to talk to Buffy about this."

She had just opened the door, when the object of their conversation arrived, followed by Jonny, Tom, and a small army.

"Special ops are here."
