Part thirty one

When Giles saw the state of Willow, his eyes narrowed, making Riley take a step back.

Tom reached out and took Willow off the commando and turned to the waiting van.

"Giles, c'mon."

Giles got into the van and motioned Tom to hand him in Willow.

"Wait guys... Buffy..." that was all Willow got out before she passed out.

Tom handed her into Giles before jumping in and closing the doors.

"Hospital."

Riley watched as the van sped off, only to be faced with thirty armed special ops facing him.

"Right Agent Finn. You are going to tell us everything you know about this facility." There was no question in Phillip's mind that Riley was going to talk.

-----

Buffy stalked over to the Doc, a gleam in her eye demons knew well.

Walsh backed away as far as she could, until she hit the wall. If she could think about it, she would have noticed the irony. She was trapped in one of her own cages, by someone sworn to protect humans.

Buffy tilted her head as she stared the Doc down, a thousand different thoughts running through her head.

Quicker than the human eye could follow, Buffy was behind Walsh and was leading her to the corridor.

"Take me to the demon."

Walsh blinked, they had many demons in holding.

When she took too long to answer, the Slayer shook her roughly.

"The demon you are creating. Take me to it."

-----

Willow was drifting in and out of it as they made their way to the hospital.

Giles kept talking to her, hoping to keep her awake, but with no luck.

He cringed when he thought of what she must have gone through in order to be in the state she was currently in.

As thoughts of the Professor entered his head, he knew with one hundred per cent certainty that she would never be a problem again.

The Slayer would see to that.

-----

Walsh stopped outside Adam's door. When she made no move to open it, Buffy shook her, making sure the Doc's head hit the wall next to the security panel.

"Open it."

Taking a deep breathe and trying to ignore the pain in her skull, Walsh reached for her key card, and opened the door.

When Buffy saw what was inside, her very being screamed with the horror of it.

"You really did use human parts. My God."

Walsh stumbled when Buffy pushed her inside the room just as the first real sounds of fighting broke out amongst the soldiers and her special ops team.

Closing the door, Buffy stared at the creature on the bed, wires connected to various parts of its body.

"Where is its power source?" Buffy turned blazing green eyes on the woman, who took an involuntary step back.

"You can't-" Buffy was there in an instant, grabbing the Doc by the throat and holding her up against the wall.

"I can. I will. Where is it?"

-----

Willow groaned as she felt the needle slice into her skin. What was going on? She remember Buffy coming for her, why was she still being hurt? She didn't want to hurt anymore. She let her mind retreat, she didn't want to know what was happening to her.

-----

Giles watched Willow as she mumbled, only able to make out a few words here and there, but getting the jist on what was going on.

"Willow, your at the hospital. Everything will be find my dear."

Whether of not she heard him, he could only guess.

-----

Walsh groaned as Buffy once again slammed her into the wall.

"Right now, my team are taking apart this building. All of your 'soldiers' have been contained. You are alone. Where is its power source?"

Walsh could see the truth of Buffy's words on the monitors around them.

"When I said you couldn't kill him, I was being serious Miss Summers. His power source is a small reservoir of uranium 235, which means cutting of his head is useless." She looked smug. Buffy rolled her eyes.

"Where is it?"

Walsh vaguely indicated his chest area.

Buffy pushed her down onto a chair.

"Do not move."

As she walked over to the table, she pulled the wires connecting the creature to the machines in the room.

Stopping by his chest, Buffy took a deep breath before closing her eyes.

Walsh's mouth dropped open as she watched Buffy punch through the impenetrable wall of Adam's chest and pull out the very thing that would have kept him alive essentially forever.

Buffy turned to the Doc, the uranium canister in her hand.

"I think I broke him."

Grabbing the Doc, Buffy dragged her from the room and sent in a few of her ops team to retrieve the body. Part of him was once human, and he deserved a funeral.

Tossing the canister at a general, she instructed him to give it to Phillips and continued on her way, dragging Walsh behind her, to the holding cells.

-----

Giles paced the halls as they waited for news on Willow. The Doctors had taken her down for surgery an hour ago, and they had heard nothing since.

Tom checked his watch, wondering what was keeping Buffy, and if he had made the right decision in letting her do this on her own.

-----

Buffy pushed Walsh ahead of her into the containment area.

The demons in the cells growled angrily at the sight of the doc, but what sickened Buffy was the most, was a female demon in the third cell down, clutching something in her arms, a look of such hate in her eyes, Buffy could almost taste it.,

Stepping closer, Buffy gasped when she saw it was a child, no more than three or four.

She didn't know the name of the species, but it was close enough to human that Buffy was sure she had once been able to walk the streets freely.

Spinning on Walsh, the Slayer grabbed her up and pressed her to the cage.

"What did you do?"

Walsh shivered as the Slayer tightened her grip.

Surprisingly it was the demon that answered.

"They wanted to know if a demon mother feels for her child the same way a human mother does. They took my baby from me, and slit her throat in front of me to see my reaction."

Buffy swallowed and looked at the dead child again.

"it's a demon! You can't be feeling sorry-" Buffy spun Walsh around and the Doc shut up at the look on the Slayer's face.

"What about Willow? She is human, and look at what you did to her!"

The Slayer was having to pull herself in and not do what every fibre of her being was telling her to do.

Looking at the cells around her, Buffy smiled. Poetic justice.

Taking the key card Walsh had used to open 314, Buffy swiped it and was asked for a code.

"What is it?"

Walsh refused to say, but she didn't need to.

The same demon from before called out the number.

"5501"

Buffy keyed the number in, not surprised that it worked. Looking at the control panel, she keyed in the release for all the cells.

Walsh backed up as each cell door opened as one.

Buffy stepped away, unconcerned as the demons began pouring out.

"Because of what you've been through, you get twenty four hours. Leave Sunnydale or I will hunt down those I need to." Her message was clear, if they didn't give her a reason, she wouldn't hunt them down.

Closing the door behind her, she heard Walsh scream, but the Slayer in her was calm.

It was time to go and see how Willow was doing.

-----

Tom looked up when Buffy barged her way into the waiting area.

"Where is she?"

"They have her in surgery now."

Buffy took a deep breath and nodded to Giles before taking his place at pacing.

-----

Willow groaned as a sharp noise invaded her sleep. Cracking open one eye, she studied the heart monitor beside her bed and frowned, trying to remember what was going on.

Slowly, she turned her head and smiled as she saw xander sitting by her bed.

"God Wills."

Willow flinched with the noise but tried to smile for her friend.

"I have to go tell everyone your awake."

Willow watched him go, still not understanding what was going on. She knew she was in a hospital, but why?

-----

Buffy looked up when xander reappeared.

She was up and out of her chair before he could finish telling them Willow was awake.

Rushing into the room, she paused when their eyes met.

Slowly, she made her way to the bed and sat on the seat Xander had used.

Reaching out, Buffy picked up Willow's hand, before bringing it to her mouth and kissing the palm.

She was shocked when Willow snatched her hand back.

"Willow?"

Willow tilted her head.

"You know my name, what's yours?"

Buffy's face paled and she heard shocked gasps from behind.

"You don't remember me?" Never before in her young life had Buffy felt pain like she was feeling now.

Willow saw the distress in the blonde's eyes.

"No, should I know you?"

Buffy never answered. Giles stepped forwards and commanded the redhead's attention.

"Willow, do you know the rest of us?"

"I know Xander."

Buffy stood up and backed away from the chair, causing Willow to focus on her once more.

Buffy never heard as the Doctor explained that sometimes things like this happened after a person had been through something so horrible. The mind wants to escape, and so blocks out the event in question, sometimes taking other memories with it.

It seemed as though Willow had forgotten not only Buffy, but everything to do with the world they lived in.

She had forgotten the world of the Slayer.

Buffy sank to the ground outside Willow's room and buried her head in her arms.

She couldn't cry... she was numb... Willow...

-----

Willow's eyes followed the blonde out. She had looked devastated.

"- It could come back all at once, of in bits and pieces. But it should come back. Chances that it wont are very slim indeed."

Giles nodded at the doctor and smiled at Willow before going outside to Buffy.

He shuddered at the look in her eyes.

"Buffy, the doctor said her memory would come back in time."

Buffy barely heard him.

Giles sighed and pulled her up by the arms.

"Buffy, get yourself together."

Buffy blinked, a hard look entering her eyes.

Flexing her arm, she dislodged Giles' grip and sent him crashing into the opposite wall.

"Willow has no idea who I am. She is my Mate, or she would have been. Now I'm no one to her."

Buffy turned and walked away, not seeing as Tom helped Giles up. The only thing she wanted to do was to lose herself. And she knew just the place to go.

She didn't even notice Xander following her, or when he sat beside her.

"Heya Slayer." Willy nervously wiped a clean glass.

"Tequila. Leave the bottle."

He complied and watched as Buffy downed her first shot.

Xander sat with her the entire time, not speaking, just waiting for when she fell apart.

He knew it was coming, and he didn't want her surround by demons, defenceless when it did.

He was reassured by the gun in his coat, the stake in his pants pocket, and the small knife in his sock.

Buffy just sat there and continued to down shot after shot.

It was three hours and two bottles later when she broke, and he was there to catch her when she fell.

-----

Willow hated that she couldn't remember things, although, when she was told about what had happened to her, she was kinda pleased she was blocking it out.

Xander had left her to go after that blonde girl, leaving her with people she didn't know.

"You will have to stay in hospital for a while until you heal. It could take months Willow."

Willow groaned and shook her head, she wanted to go home now.

Giles shared a look with Tom.

They knew how Willow could be healed so that she would be fine in a few days.

All they had to do, was make sure Buffy was in the right frame of mind to do the spell.

Giles took out his cell and dialled Xander.
