Chapter 9

[reviews]

Buffy, Xander, and Angel reached the roof access. Buffy turned to Xander and Angel.

"You two, make sure that there aren't any vampires getting involved," Buffy commanded, as both Xander and Angel nodded in affirmation. Buffy turned, ascended the stairs, and walked onto the rooftop.

"Yes. Come forth, my child. Come into my world," The Master said, clearly gleeful about the impending domination. Buffy, wasn't quite ready to relinquish the world just yet.

"I don't think it's yours just yet," she taunted, as The Master turned, and looked at her in surprise. 'Score one for me,' she thought.

"You're dead," said The Master, as if it were obvious. Buffy smiled.

"I may be dead, but I'm still pretty. Which is more than I can say for you," she quipped, which earned a snarl from the vampire.

"You were destined to die! It was written," The Master growled, clearly not happy that Buffy stood there.

"What can I say? I flunked the written," Buffy commented with a grin. The Master extended an arm, trying to hypnotize her again. Buffy slowly walked to The Master, hypnotized. The Master smirked.

"Did you really think you could best me here, when you couldn't below?" The Master asked, as he released his grip from Buffy's neck. Buffy tilted her head.

"You have fruit punch mouth," she commented, eyebrows scrunched. The Master looked at her confused.

"What?" he asked, his question being met by a hard punch to the mouth that sent him to the ground. Buffy stood there, defiant as ever.

"Save the hypnosis crap for the tourists," she replied, and executed a roundhouse kick as The Master stumbled backwards. The Master lunged, swiped, and just caught her chest with his nails. Buffy winced in pain, but sent a punch to the kidney, and received a punch to her face for the trouble. The Master blocked her next punch, and delivered one of his own, and drove Buffy into the wall behind her. Buffy executed a front tuck, and landed between The Master and the skylight. He whirled around, and clutched her by the neck again, smiling evilly.

"You laugh when my Hell is on Earth?" he asked, in a taunting manner. Buffy turned, looked down, and caught sight of the upended table. She grabbed him by the throat, catching him by surprise.

"You're that amped about Hell? Go there," she snapped, using her strength to launch the vampire over her head, and through the skylight. She watched, as The Master was impaled. Giles slowly stood up, as the creatures from the Hellmouth disappeared back into it. Jenny, Cordelia, and I came into view. I looked up at Buffy, worried.

"Stay right there Will. I'll be right down," Buffy called out, as Giles looked up at her in confusion.

"You're not going to jump are you?" he asked, as Buffy frowned, and I glared at him.

"No Giles! I'm taking the stairs," Buffy said, somewhat indignant at Giles questioning her common sense. The library doors swung open, Xander and Angel entered, as Xander looked a little beat up. Buffy soon appeared. I couldn't contain myself, dashing to Buffy, and embracing her as tightly as I possibly could. Buffy smiled, glad that I was safe.

"Oh Buffy," I whispered, tears threatened to spill. I pulled back, and kissed Buffy hard on the mouth, Buffy pressed back. I pulled away, a grin plastered on my face. I slowly realized who was watching, and broke up the embrace, embarrassment coursing through my body.

"Xander!" I cried out, not aware that I had even said anything. All I saw was Xander's body come flying through the air, and land in a tumbled heap at our feet. I looked up from him to Angel. Anger, confusion, and worry flooded my body.

"Angel?" Buffy asked, in a half snarl. Angel laughed, the sound sent shivers down my spine. I noticed Giles move Jenny behind him. Cordelia scampered behind Giles as well. Buffy stepped in front of me; while I knelt down to tend to an unconscious Xander.

"I really liked you Buffy. I never thought you'd go dyke," he remarked, evil glinted in his eyes. I could see Buffy tense.

"You have a soul," she said, but Angel snorted.

"Tricky thing about souls Buffy, they don't guarantee a good person, or in my case, a vampire. I was doing this whole redemption thing, figured it'd help me feel better, and even win your heart. Clearly, that plan's failed. I'm cursed with a soul, sure, but it doesn't do much good when you have no remorse anymore," Angel said, with a smirk, abruptly shoved the doors open, and left. Buffy looked down at me. I pleaded with her to stay, hoping my eyes would be enough. She sighed, knelt down, and looked over Xander.

"Giles, call 911," Buffy ordered. I wondered what was going to be in store for us now that Angel had gone evil.
