Intimidation and Arrivals

Chapter 5

[reviews]

I was seated on the table in the library, kicking my legs in boredom. Buffy was sitting in a chair to my right. Giles was at some teacher meeting and Xander was at gym class, one of the few classes he actually showed up for. Jenny was busy teaching a computer class. I offered to assist her, but got told she could handle it. I was looking forward to helping out and glaring at the stragglers too. Although, being alone with Buffy also can have its perks. The library door opens and in walks Mayor Wilkins. I recognize him from the few times he's appeared on our local channel. He strides in, smiling. I glance at Buffy, feeling a mix of worry, and distrust. I get off the table and quickly step behind Buffy who rises to her feet.

"You must be Buffy Summers. I've heard a lot about you from your mother. You must be Willow Rosenberg. I'm deeply sorry for your loss," Wilkins says. I just nod my head, staying guarded. I can see that Buffy's tense, and her fists are clenched.

"What are you doing here?" I ask, trying to be cordial. I don't exactly want the Mayor being angry with me. I don't want him being angry at Buffy either. I hope she can control herself. Not that she ever loses control, because she's control girl, it's just that sometimes she can get angry quickly...okay, get a hold of yourself.

"I just wanted to say hello and meet you both. Joyce gave a raving description of you, Buffy, and she was equally talkative about you, Ms. Rosenberg. I understand that you two are likely going through some trying times with-in the school. Just keep your chin up and your head high," Wilkins says. I give a small smile and I can see Buffy relax, just slightly. She is still tensed enough that she could probably deliver some fancy kick that I could never do in my lifetime.

"We will," Buffy replies, now backing up so we're side by side. Buffy takes my hand in hers, which doesn't go unnoticed by the Mayor. I blush, embarrassed at doing such a thing in front of such a public figure, but Wilkins just smiles at us.

"True love is hard to find, girls. Edna Mae and I, god rest her soul, were married for twenty-eight years. It's not easy finding love in life these days. You girls both chose an alternative route, and wound up in a place that not many people can say they've ended up. Congratulations," Wilkins says. I smile at Buffy, relishing in the fact that somebody this important could see our love. Buffy keeps her eyes on Wilkins who's retreating out the door.

"Are you okay?" I ask, touching her lightly on the arm. She turns and glances at me, nodding her head, but it's not that convincing. "Okay, spill," I demand. Buffy sighs.

"Something just seems weird. My spidey sense is tingling and I can't put a finger on why. Snyder knows all about what I am and the Mayor knew what was going on while being so far away. Doesn't this strike you as odd?" Buffy asks me. I frown, thinking over how I want to answer her. It has been very strange, but there has to be some rationale reasoning, right? Then again, as Giles would point out, we are on the Hellmouth.

"W-well, it is a little strange but I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation," I say. Buffy just gives me a cross between an annoyed look and an amused smile. It's hard to describe, but she doesn't seem happy.

"That being?" Buffy asks, trying to lead into an answer. I can't think of one yet.

"Uh...maybe Snyder informed the Mayor what he was going to do," I say. It's a flimsy excuse, even to my mind. It's all I could think of though and I think I should get credit for coming up with a flimsy, but possible, idea this quickly. Hah...and Xander said I never could rise to the pressure. Buffy just gives me a pout. I quickly contemplate nibbling her lip, but nix it on the basis that we're having an important talk.

"Uh-huh. Why?" Buffy asks. I gesture with my hands, waving them in a confused manner. Why does Buffy expect me to know all the answers? I'm really smart, smartest in my class, but still...that doesn't give her license to walk all over me. Oh, but I shouldn't be grouchy with her! She's just trying to get answers.

"I-I don't know, Buffy. I don't know what's going on. You should stop acting like I know everything," I say, feeling flustered, and annoyed. I instantly regret doing it as Buffy flinches and turns away from me. I close my eyes, angry with myself for hurting her. "Buffy...I'm sorry, it's just that I'm right here with you. I'm as lost as you are in terms of what's going on. I know you're depending on me to come up with some plausible reasoning, but I can't," I say, wrapping my arms around Buffy's waist. Buffy leans back into my touch.

"I'm sorry too, Willow. I didn't mean to lean on you. I'm unnerved and want to know what's going on. With demons, we could look it up, and everything would be known with-in a day or two, for the most part. Now, it's like we're in a circle running, and we haven't seen anybody new for hours," Buffy says. I giggle at her analogy, kissing her on the neck.

"Don't worry. We'll find something out. Okay, let's work out what we have so far. We know that the Mayor contacted Snyder, so Wilkins had to know that something was going to happen. That means he had advance notice somehow, we don't know from whom though. We also know that Joyce spoke to Wilkins, so he knew we were in a relationship, and he probably knows that Snyder hates our guts. He could've just put two and two together and called at that time. It was just a coincidence that we were there too," I say, now in full on ramble, gears grinding mode. Buffy turns and gives me a soft smile.

"I love when you start being all smart. It makes you incredibly sexy," Buffy says, her voice sounding a little husky. I smile.

"Really?" I ask, wanting more ego boosting. I haven't gotten much of that in my lifetime and I want to savor every last bit. Buffy steps closer, wrapping her arms around my neck.

"Yup. You're everything in one neat package," Buffy says, claiming my lips with her own. We kiss passionately, my hands starting to head towards uncharted territory when I catch Giles over Buffy's shoulder. Buffy feels me breaking it off and steps back, confused, and maybe a little hurt. I gesture with my head at Giles. Buffy turns, and instantly blushes. "Don't you knock?" Buffy asks, very embarrassed. Giles glares back at her.

"This is my library you know. I don't need to knock," Giles says, apparently not pleased at Buffy's remark, and feeling a little touchy. I take a seat in the chair as Buffy sits next to me, shooting Giles an annoyed look for breaking up our pleasure time.

"So, what's going on?" I ask. We told Giles about Spike last night. He was clearly enthused, forgetting for a moment that we were all a little freaked. I like research too, but Giles needs a life. He needs more time with Jenny, if it'll help.

"Nothing important. Buffy, I want you to patrol tonight, and keep an eye out for Spike lest he show up again. I'll make a few phone calls and see what's going on," Giles says, heading towards his office. I frown at Buffy, not pleased that our night will be broken up. Darn Giles. I need smoochy time here. I stand up, hefting my backpack on.

"I have to get to computer class. I'll see you later," I say, feeling a little down at the knowledge that my Buffy time keeps getting put on hold. I give Buffy a brief kiss and head out the door. I can tell Buffy sensed my mood but I can't be happy that my love life keeps getting on the back burner today. I-I had plans for tonight too. Not as extravagant as last night, but plans none the less. Giles then has to ruin it. Ugh...

"I'm so bored," I whine to myself. I'm lying on Buffy's bed with absolutely nothing to do. I finished my homework early, as well as Buffy's. I've found that it's an easy tactic to use to ensure massages for myself. Joyce went to a showing at her art gallery. I would've come, but I wanted to wait for Buffy. I still wasn't comfortable waiting for her, fearing that she was hurt. I always think back to the night Angel was killed, and how badly Buffy was hurt. I glance around, trying to find something to keep my mind occupied. I smile to myself, hopping off the bed, and scrambling down the stairs. I open the freezer and pull out a tray of ice cubes. I crack three out, and place the tray back in. I head upstairs, holding the three ice cubes in hand, and take a seat on Buffy's bed. I close my eyes. I chant a select Latin verse, and with any luck, my ice cubes should float in the air. I open my eyes and am pleasantly surprised to see all three dancing in the air. Yay me! "Hey, slow down," I command, but the ice cubes are starting to move faster. I swear I didn't do anything! "Eeee," I shout, diving beneath the pillow, and yanking the blanket over me. I can feel them pelting the blanket. Finally they stop, and I lift the blanket. The cubes are resting all displaced on the floor. I cautiously walk over and pick one up, holding the pillow in case they attack.

"Fending off ice cubes? Now I'm ashamed that I was stuck patrolling," remarks Buffy, arms folded behind me. I whirl around and throw the pillow at her before realizing who it is. Looking back, a pillow probably wouldn't have even scared a rabbit.

"Buffy!" I shout, surprised that she's there. I blush upon realizing how foolish I must have looked holding a pillow at two ice cubes on the floor. "I tried a levitation spell with the ice cubes and it went wonky. They started whirling around really fast, and I lost control so I hid in your bed," I say sheepishly. Great. Buffy probably thinks I'm a big scaredy cat now. I am. Who would be scared of ice cubes? Even if they were flying around really fast and zooming at me...

"Very brave of you," Buffy says, grinning at me. I know it's really dumb but it did happen. Support would be nice to have.

"Thanks. Unfortunately, I didn't have my brave Slayer to watch over me. I don't think Mr. Gordo was ready to step in your shoes either," I reply, feeling a little catty. Buffy just smiles at this and walks closer, tossing the pillow onto the bed.

"Well, your brave slayer is here to protect you now. I slayed three vampires as well, so it seemed to be a fun evening for the both of us. You did my homework!" Buffy says, leaping at me, and embracing me. I smile and manage to position myself to where we're face to face. Doing so resulted in some touching in other areas, making me quite aroused. I may not be ready for full contact just yet, but I don't mind the occasional contact. I kiss Buffy on the lips, pushing my tongue in. This is so good. No Giles to interrupt us.

"Girls, you'll want to get to bed soon," calls Joyce from out in the hallway. We instantly broke our kiss upon hearing Joyce's voice. I sigh and rest my forehead against Buffy's.

"I'm thinking we'll have to soundproof this place. Maybe acquire some signs that say "No Interrupting" too," I grumble, thoroughly displeased. Buffy just rubs my back with her hands.

"Today didn't go as planned for you and I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you in the morning, okay?" Buffy asks. I pull back and nod my head, visions already dancing in my head. I peck Buffy on the cheek and head to the bathroom to brush my teeth and let Buffy get changed into pajamas.

"It went pretty well, Allen. They both seemed a bit...leery of me but I can completely understand that. I wield quite a bit of power here in Sunnydale, after all I built the town of course. Willow was definitely the sweeter of the two though, innocent, and trusting. I'm going to hate seeing her die next year, if she makes it that long. Do you think it would be wise to have her helping out around here?" Mayor Wilkins asks. Allen is standing still, focused on his boss. Allen pulls the collar of his suit away to get some breathing air, but it doesn't do much good.

"She is only sixteen, sir. I think you should wait until next year to acquire her services. The only downside is that she'll be working with the Slayer and they could be a big threat," Allen says. Wilkins just smiles and leans back. He lifts both hands and clasps them behind his head.

"You're probably right. No use having her work at such a young age, although it does promote stability and confidence. I'm sure the Slayer will find out what I have planned next year anyway, so I'll take the risk with the reward. Think you could set up another meeting for me?" Wilkins asks as Allen looks back, feeling uncomfortable. He doesn't like the tone that Wilkins has. It's chipper, but more than usual.

"Sure, sir. Who did you have in mind?" Allen asks. Wilkins just smiles, feeling pleased.

"Spike," Wilkins answers. At this, Allen goes pale.

"S-S-Spike?" Allen asks, really not liking the idea of cornering the vampire. He could be a victim.

"Don't worry, Allen. Spike knows my power, and I have quite a share of connections. Tell him I'll make him a deal. He can kill the Slayer and all her friends on Halloween...maybe hold off on Willow if he can help it. I'll allow him free access to them on Halloween, in exchange for him leaving by next year. I don't want Spike or Drusilla mucking up my plans for domination of Sunnydale. Understood?" Wilkins asks, now leaning forward. Allen smiles nervously.

"Sure. When do you want me to contact him...them?" Allen asks.

"As soon as possible. Tonight would be quite peachy though. We only have a week until Halloween, Allen. I think it's only courteous that we inform and give Spike and his group a chance to plan what they want to do. I also want you to call a guy I know. Name's Ethan Rayne. Tell him I want some fireworks on Halloween. I'm talking a real show stopper," Wilkins says, letting out a laugh. He stands up and pats Allen on the shoulder. Allen leaves the office first, Wilkins following after turning off the light.

Spike was pacing. Spike met the Slayer and was a little surprised that she had two friends helping out. He hadn't quite counted on this girl have a cadre of helpful pansies. Most Slayers tended to fight alone, live alone, and die alone. This...Buffy was different. Spike really didn't like that she was different. Different meant a longer stay here in Sunnydale. Different also meant that the Slayer was likely harder to kill. Bullocks!

"I don't like this, love. Normally, I feel in control regardless of the shit that is going down around us. Here though, I'm not sure if it's the bloody Hellmouth or not, but I have no idea what's going on. I was one hundred percent certain that this Slayer was like the others, even with the poofter's talk, and yet I'm one hundred percent wrong," Spike growls, now growing pissed off at this admittance. Drusilla saunters in, smiling broadly in her black gown.

"Remember the powerful man? He's going to communicate with us. The sky tells me he has a deal to make us happy," Drusilla says, slowly swaying beneath Spike's embrace.

"A deal? What kind of deal?" Spike asks, growing intrigued. This guy already met with the Slayer then if he wants to contact Spike.

"Shh...no secrets being told, or Miss Edith would inform the dancer that she's not fit for the parade," Drusilla murmurs. Spike groans at this riddle. He loves Drusilla with all his heart, but sometimes he can't stand Drusilla not giving him a straight and true answer.

"Fine, love. Let's see what this good old boy has planned and see how it goes from there," Spike replies, kissing Dru on the neck. Dru moans.

"Will you please me, Spike?" Drusilla asks, a soft pout coming on. Spike grins and swoops her into his arms. Drusilla lets out a giggle.

"I'll always please you, my black heart of desire," Spike answers, dancing his way into the bedroom.
