part 23

Buffy found him quickly enough, in the old factory end of town.

Jumping down from the landing she was standing on, Buffy could tell she had surprised all the Vampire's present.

When three stood to attack, his voice rang out clear,

"Touch her and die."

Needless to say, they backed off.

Buffy walked up to Kakistos and flashed him some fang, hoping that he couldn't smell the soul on her.

"Long time."

He smiled and nodded to her, before giving a small bow,

"I had no idea you were in Sunnydale."

They made small talk for what seemed like hours. Talking about past events. Finally, he stood.

"So, Buffy, tell me. How did you get a soul?" He had a smirk of his disfigured face.

Buffy tensed and stood up.

"Funny story really."

She attacked before he could.

His minions watched the battle, none of them moving to help. Kakistos had given them a direct order not to touch the blonde Master, so they were following that order.

Buffy ducked under his badly thrown punch and sprinted towards the wall, running up it before back-flipping over him, she sent a hard punch to the back of his head.

He fell but was standing again in a second.

Buffy paused to re-group and the fight was on again.

She hated to admit it, but her demon was revelling in the violence.

Giles was getting worried about his Slayer. She was doing everything she was supposed to do, hanging out with her friends, school work and slaying.

But she seemed to draw into her self more and more.

The watcher began to notice that the only person she spend a certain amount of time with, was Gunn.

"Giles?"

He snapped out of his thoughts and turned towards the back of the library.

Buffy was there, a little banged up, but in one piece.

"I think that's the first time you've called me by my name."

Buffy shrugged and moved closer, avoiding the sunlight that lit certain parts of the room, and dismissing the pain in her leg.

"I just thought that you would like to know he's dead."

Giles nodded his head and pulled out a chair.

"Sit," He wanted to talk to the Vampire, but when he turned around, she was gone.

"Dammit."

Another month passed.

Buffy had only needed to help them once more during it, but she had refused to even communicate with either Gunn or Willow, unless it was concerning the battle, going as far as to move from the mansion without telling them where she had moved to.

She was under no illusion that neither of them could track her, but for now they were respecting her wishes and staying away.

It was one week until Christmas, and Buffy knew that the Scoobies, as they liked to call themselves, were having a party of sorts.

Giles had told her to stop by, but she figured one Vampire was enough to have at a Christmas party.

The last Christmas party she had attended turned out very bloody, and she really didn't feel up to going to another.

Standing, she slipped on her coat and locked her door on the way out.

By the fifth cemetery, Buffy was exhausted. The demons seemed to be out in force tonight.

They probably knew the Slayer was taking the night off.

Slipping down a back ally, she paused, looking up at the sign that was so close to falling off its hinges.

As soon as she entered Willy's, the bar went quiet.

"Ah, hey Buffy."

Buffy glared at Willy and sat at the bar.

"Give me a shot of whatever you have."

He nodded nervously and pulled out a bottle of tequila.

After he poured her the shot he moved to reclaim the bottle, only to have Buffy take it off him.

She threw down enough money to cover it, and moved to a table in the corner to drink in silence.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gunn cursed as he checked the fridge and saw that he had no blood left.

Running up the stairs and out of the basement he pulled Willow aside.

"I'm out of blood, the butchers is closed so I'm gonna head over to Willy's."

Willow gave him a one armed hug.

"Don't get into too much trouble." She was surprised at how close her and Gunn were, but then, they did have something very big in common.

He rolled his eyes at her and grabbed his coat off the rack.

Xander stood when he saw Gunn about to leave.

"Hey wait up, I need to get more nibbles."

For some strange reason, Gunn and Xander had come to an understanding.

They weren't friends, but they didn't snipe at each other every second either.

"Fine, but hurry up, I'm hungry." Gunn sent Xander a wicked smile, before Willow smacked him upside the head.

"Behave."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Gunn and Xander entered Willy's, the bar went silent for a second time that night.

Gunn just glared at every demon in the room and marched up to the bar.

"I need three bottles of O-neg."

Willy reached under the bar and removed the blood from the fridge.

"Here ya go, that's ten bucks."

Gunn grabbed the bottles and handed Willy his money before he turned to go.

"Ah, Gunn?" Gunn turned to see what Willy wanted and looked over in the direction the bar-tender nodded in.

Every time he saw her, his demon cried out for its Sire.

Gunn headed over to his Sire, knowing that Xander was on his heels.

Buffy looked up when two shadows fell over the table.

"Gunn!"

He was surprised that she was happy to see him, that was until he realised she was drunk.

He sat down, wondering what kind of welcome he would get.

Buffy dismissed Xander all together and looked at her childe, a smile on her face.

Gunn took a deep breath when Buffy leaned over and gave him a hug.

"I missed you."

He caught her as she fell forward, sighing when he realised she had passed out.

Xander stood back as Gunn moved to stand up, Buffy in his arms.

"Where do we take her? She's not staying at the mansion anymore."

Gunn looked from the sleeping face of his Sire, to the human beside him.

Xander read the answer on his face.

"I don't think that's fair."

Gunn opened his mouth to argue, but Xander cut him off.

"What happens when she wakes up, not drunk anymore, and realises she's in Will's house? Will's not doing good as it is, to have Buffy for a night then go back to nothing? I'm thinking it might break her."

Gunn cursed and left the bar.

"Xander, we have nowhere else to take her. I'll sneak her into the basement and put her in my bed, Willow will never know."

Xander nodded before something hit him.

"Gunn, she doesn't have an invite."

Gunn growled.

"We'll sort that out when we get there."
