Interlude 4

Buffy met her mother in the kitchen, hoping that the argument the night before was not about to be repeated.

"Buffy, sit down."

Buffy sighed. So much for it being over.

"Mom, I can't do it."

Joyce rolled her eyes.

"Buffy, its not like the relationship can go anywhere, not if you two are separated by an ocean."

Buffy glared at her toast.

"I love her mom."

Joyce sighed and reached out a hand to stroke her daughters hair.

"Honey, you aren't being fair to her. Its best for everyone if you end it."

Buffy raised teary eyes to her mother.

"I love her, and she loves me."

"Buffy, be reasonable. What life could you give her anyway? You're a Slayer honey, Willow's a human girl."

Buffy stood up and wrapped her arms around her middle, not wanting to hear any more.

"No."

Joyce exploded, trying to make Buffy see sense.

"Buffy, I like Willow, you know that. But this relationship needs to end. It isn't fair on her, asking her to wait for god knows how long. She'll come to hate you for it."

Buffy's head lowered, believing her mother was right.

-----

She was trying to hold in the tears as she watched Willow.

The song on the radio caught her attention, and the tears fell when she listened to the lyrics.

It's daybreak
And you are asleep
I can hear you breathe now
Your breath is so deep

But before I go
I look at you one last time
I can hear a heartbeat
Is it yours or is it mine

I look at your lips
I know how soft they can be
Do they know what they wanted
The times they kissed me

And your hands
I held in mine

Now they're reposing on the pillow
Will they ever miss me sometime

I'll remember you
You will be there in my heart

I'll remember you

That's all that I can do
And I'll remember

Your eyes
That always makes me shiver
Now they are closed
They do sometimes twitch although

And your body
I could own for an hour
It sent me to heaven
With it's speed and power

I'll remember you
You will be there in my heart
I'll remember you
That's all that I can do

And I'll remember

Buffy cried, knowing that what she was going to do, would destroy any relationship she had with the redhead.

Turning, she ran from the room.

She couldn't do it yet. She needed more time... before she ended things with the girl she was in love with.

She had never hated being the Slayer so much, until she realised that it was going to cost her, her very life.

Her reason for living.
