---------------

Willow dragged Buffy to the crime lab again once the tests from the new samples were finished.

While Willow leaned over the desk with a magnifier to study the pictures of the victims better, Buffy just sat on the couch, legs tucked beneath her, as she watched her girlfriend work; it was a new favorite sport of hers. She wasn't even aware that Catherine Willows was watching her with a raised eyebrow from outside the room. The older blonde walked in and sat down on the couch beside Buffy, who smiled to acknowledge her presence, coming out of her Willow daze.

"So...Willow sure is something, isn't she?" Catherine had observed that the blonde had feelings for her supervisor. It was a similar look of awe that she remembered the redhead having when she mentored her. "How do you like working for her?"

"She's great. Actually, she kinda reminds me of Grissom a bit, the way she becomes absorbed in her work yet manages to stay so apathetic and distant from it." Buffy smiled, as she moved her tingling legs back to the floor. "I see how this place influenced her."

"You must be friends outside of work if you're vacationing together." Catherine hadn't seen any indication that the redhead was interested in her charge. "How's she been doing?"

"Fine, I suppose. As good as can be expected if not better. Why do you ask?" Buffy was curious at the questioning tone from the woman.

"Well, she was heartbroken when she left here, Tara had really done a number on her, and last we heard, she'd started dating a cop. I guess I've just been worried, since she's too young to be that cold and distant like Grissom." Catherine wasn't surprised to see the small jealous flare and confusion from the blonde. "Speaking as a friend, somebody who has been in this field for a while, I just don't want to see her shut other people out like him."

"That's nice of you...but I'm sure she's fine." Buffy swallowed the fear in her throat. Who was Tara? Heartbroken? 'I thought she said I was her first.'

"Just...be careful with her. I can see you care for her. While I would normally say that's good, I don't want to see her hurt because..."

"Willows...Catherine...look, I know she's okay." Buffy sent a look that said the unspoken to the other woman: they were already lovers. "She does care about her job and it bothers her more than she wants to admit that something, someone clashes with her worker mentality. I worry about her, too."

Catherine just nodded her head, letting her know that the secret was safe, especially since Buffy never admitted directly to anything. There was no confession that would hold in a court of law that would convict these two for breaking the rules.

When the other woman left, Buffy went back to watching her girlfriend work, contemplating how she was going to go about getting another assignment and still keep the same hours as her girlfriend.

-----------------------

Since the detectives managed to hold a suspect in custody from Willow's evidence, Grissom decided that it was time to celebrate his friend's arrival by taking her and her coworker to the dinner theatre the next night to see Siegfried and Roy. Plus, it would give him a chance to discuss something he had noticed about the redhead's relationship with the blonde. Since he was doing the same thing, he couldn't exactly condone her for it but he did feel the need to warn her about the consequences of a hidden long-term relationship.

He waited until the blonde went to the bar to get another round after a bathroom break.

"Willow..." His tone and facial expression said it all. Willow knew he knew.

"I know. I'm a bad person...but it's not like I didn't try." She sighed, having a feeling she couldn't hide her relationship from him; he was too good of an investigator not to notice the smallest gestures and smiles.

"I'm sure you did; you take your job very seriously. Just tell me you didn't take advantage." Grissom was considering offering her a job here, especially after the sharpness and relative ease she had about solving this last case. For sure, she would make even more money here for taking a decrease in power but he knew the redhead wouldn't take the job because California was her home, the reason she didn't take the job offered her when she graduated.

"Of course not!" Willow was mildly offended but understood his reasoning. "We tried not to but there was just this...pull. I don't know how to explain it but eventually...well..."

"I'm not saying it's bad; you're not a bad person. Just be careful. It's not easy withholding a hidden relationship, even after the initial passion wears. Plus, you're still young, so if the relationship lasted for several years...well, I just wanted to warn you to make sure this is exactly what you want."

"It is." Willow didn't even hesitate, as she saw her girlfriend walking back over with the drinks. "I'll do whatever it takes."

"Even if it means risking your job and hers? I know you know the risks...but you need to completely understand the consequences, too. You work with a group of people that make a living out of uncovering secrets and lies. I know you're good at your job but even the slightest slip and it could mean the end of your careers. Are you sure you're doing what's right?"

"Yes." Again, no hesitation as she accepted the beer from her girlfriend, who was surprised when the redhead pulled her down to sit beside her and proceeded to kiss her cheek.

"Uh, Will?" Buffy blushed, feeling her heart stop.

"It's okay. I should've known I couldn't hide anything from him." Willow smiled before entangling her fingers with the blonde's under the table.

"Oh, you had me worried that you were already hammered." Buffy let out the breath she was unwittingly holding and relaxed for the first time that day.

---------------------------

From no touching to all kinds of touching. The sounds and smells permeating the hotel room were intoxicating, still lingering in the air after several minutes of satiated snuggling. Willow was the first to break the quiet.

"I think Grissom was going to offer me a job again." She pulled her girlfriend closer, running her fingers lightly up and down the arm that was across her chest.

"Yeah? Doesn't surprise me." Buffy sighed the contended sigh of the sexed real well. "He'd be stupid not to want you."

"Eww..." The thought of Grissom hitting on her caused an internal incest thought to appear; he really was more of a father figure to her than her own absent father. "Scary visual place."

"Would you take it if you offered? The position, I mean, not the sex...because...right there with you on the eww." Buffy chuckled, as she placed a soft kiss along the heated skin of her girlfriend's shoulder.

"Of course not; Sunnydale is home. It's where I grew up, and sure...more money for even less duties, plus the added bonus of actually solving cases...but Las Vegas lacks one major thing."

"Aww...Will, is it me?" Buffy teased her girlfriend with a light tickle.

"Well, not that I'm not fond, which I very much am...I feel like I have a purpose there, like I'm doing something good for the world, especially knowing what we know. Even though we don't have a lot of solvable cases, it's a good fight and I want in." Willow moved her hand to brush sweaty locks from the blonde's forehead before placing a chaste kiss there. "Okay, so it lacks two things..."

----------------------

Even though their vacation warranted some great souvenirs in the guise of an abundance of orgasms, the girls were glad to be home. Good old Sunnydale. Since it was only a five-hour drive from northern California to Las Vegas, halfway through the airplane ride home, Buffy decided that Willow's stomach would thank her the next time they visited.

Buffy figured they would visit more often, too, since Willow had agreed to be a liaison on the occult cases for the Las Vegas crime lab. The blonde knew that the lure of solved cases was too strong for her girlfriend not to give into temptation.

Since they still had a few days before they needed to go back to work, Buffy hid their police scanners so the redhead would take the rest of her vacation to relax.

Darla's minions confirmed that the two women were back, and it didn't surprise her that they returned as lovers. She only smiled in glee at the deliciously evil plans she could finally unleash.

Tomorrow, she could finally ditch the detective.

--------

Faith had been working overtime, often going to Giles to fix up cuts and scrapes from hard fights endured. The dead bodies were overflowing and she'd finally spotted Darla with one of the detectives in town. When she wasn't fighting other demons and vampires, the slayer was mentally preparing for the big battle she knew she would need to take to the blonde vampire.

Making her way to have the latest scrapes fixed, she noticed there was a vampire watching that house again.

Staking him, she couldn't help but notice the curtains weren't drawn and the blonde was getting fucked hard against the stairwell in her house. That house: she finally knew it belonged to the blonde, Summers, that CSI that Giles still wouldn't tell her about.

"Go, blondie," Faith whispered to the air, as she felt the cool breeze hit her heating skin. "Woah!"

She noticed that it was the redhead doing the pleasuring, hand buried in the other woman. This was news; was this what Giles was hiding? That the two were lovers? Was he trying to protect her? It wasn't like she hadn't gone there a couple times herself; to each his own.

Processing this new information, she finally managed to tear her eyes from the show and continue on her way to the morgue. She didn't know why she felt so comfortable in that place; she figured it had something to do with the slayer part of her.

She was quiet and just watched her watcher stitch her wounds, deciding not to comment until he was finished sticking a needle through her skin.

"So...saw Red and B today." Faith just let that linger, frustrated at the non-committal response she received in return. Giles was so British. "Yeah...they were sexing each other up somethin' fierce. Staked a vamp that was gettin' the show."

"Huh..." Giles stood from his chair and removed his glasses, pulling out a handkerchief but not cleaning like he normally would be. Instead, he stood there and let the new information register.

"It was the same house I've been tellin' you about. The one with all the vamps. These last few weeks, though...I don't know. It didn't seem like anyone was home, yet they were still there, so I don't think it's just for the free porn."

"You think these vamps may be scouting?" Giles knew it was time to tell him what he knew about the two CSIs, because it looked like Faith would need to protect them and he knew she wouldn't stop until she had some answers. "Sit."

"Okay..." Faith hopped up on the table, pushing the dead guy's foot out of the way.

"You should know something about CSI Summers and Rosenberg, Buffy and Willow respectively." Giles cleared his throat before cleaning his glasses finally. "The Watchers Council keeps records of all potential slayers but another one escaped their grasp, much like you. Buffy Summers was called without knowing it but the Council didn't want to admit a charge that they had no control over, a civilian outside their world, one that had grown up with a normal family."

"Not surprising; they're all a bunch of prigs." Faith didn't even grimace at the glare she received.

"Well, the Council saw it fit to remove her powers from her before she became aware of them." Giles held up his hand to interrupt the outburst he knew was coming. "She was two before you; had her successor not been killed, you might not have been called."

"Okay, G...that doesn't..." Faith was fuming, yet she still was grateful that it had happened because she couldn't imagine her life without slaying. "How could she not know, though?"

"That's the thing, Faith. I've observed her training in the gym here, and she still exhibits strength beyond what a normal girl her size would own. I fear the Council might not have been able to remove all of her power, and with her now being aware of vampires and demons, I fear that she will become a target. I'm surprised she's managed to stay ignorant this long." Giles had actually moved to California to become the blonde's watcher before the Council had made the decision to strip the girl's powers but Faith didn't need to know that; he had taken assignment at the hellmouth, to stay undercover at keeping the demon world under cover.

"That..." Faith was speechless for once; it did happen on rare occasions. She knew there was more than a dozen reasons she hated the council. At least Summers didn't know what she lost.

"Just continue your patrol of the house, and we'll keep a watchful eye on those two."

"What about Red, though? I don't see them targeting her just because she's Blondie's girlfriend." Faith knew there was more to the story, though she knew by Giles's expression that she wasn't getting any more tonight. Sighing, she hopped off the table before making her way back to her house. At the last minute, she decided to do a quick sweep to check on the two investigators.

-------

"Oh, it's good to be back to work. Hello, desk, I have missed you." Willow sat down in her chair, enjoying returning to her comfort zone.

She already had two reports and a slew of closed cases to sign off on. When she got to the fifth dead body closed case, she knew she was back in Sunnydale. A fact which only unnerved her for a minute.
