Chapter 21

The first day back went ok for the group. It surprised Faith most of all when the professors she had to talk to about any missed assignments were supportive and told her that they could schedule time so that she could make up any tests that she had missed. Buffy fared pretty well on that end as well. She surprised both her 18th Century English Poetry professor and her American History Professor by turning in the term papers on time. Buffy made a metal note to thank Willow after diner with her mom and Giles maybe an outfit of some type would be involved. Willow did just as good returning after the week long absence. She was still ahead of the syllabuses and she was ready for all the midterms that were slated for Wednesday and Thursday. She herself was a little nervous not because of returning to class, but Buffy had called her mom and Giles to go to diner to let them know about the potential school disruption.

She was on her way to the grotto to meet Faith for lunch when she heard her name being called out from across the lawn. She turned with a slightly perplexed look on her face. If she didn't know better she could have sworn that...Willow turned and dropped her books, her purse, and her jaw as she saw her mother dragging her father across the lawn of the quad waving after her. In her 18 years she could never remember her mother ever, never coming to her school. Sheila Rosenberg called any teacher she felt she needed to talk to about her daughter. It was also shocking because she had not spoken to her parents in nearly 4 months even through email the last correspondence they had was right before New Years.

"Willow! Wait one minute!" Sheila called after her daughter.

Willow scrambled and picked up her dropped items and went rushing over to her parents.

"Willow Diana Rosenberg get over here right now!" Sheila yelled.

Willow's face reddened at the use of her full name. Something was not right and she couldn't for the life of her figure out what was going on.

"Mom, Dad, what a surprise. Is everything alright?" Willow asked once she reached her parents.

"Who died?" She said it half jokingly and then when she looked at her parents her face fell thinking the worst, "Oh my god who died?"

"Willow thank god." Both her parents put her between them and hugged. Willow went rigged and wondered if hell froze over.

They moved to sit down on a bench and sandwiched the redhead between them. Concern was apparent in Ira's voice, "We got a check from the school last night as reimbursement for your boarding fees and then when we called this morning to try and fix the mix up they said that you had opted to not stay in the dorms. We couldn't reach you and so we called Tara and she said you were living with some friends and then she said that you had been out of school because a friend of yours had passed away."

Willow idly wondered if she sounded that bad when she babbled. She knew where the babble came from, but she didn't believe she could have been that long winded. She placed her hands over her dads and smiled.

"Everything's ok. It's just I met some really great people last semester and they wanted to live off campus. It was a good idea. It was in the email I sent you at the beginning of the year. Didn't you get it?"

"NO! Really Willow why would you try and upset us like this. Why didn't you call and let us know?" Sheila asked perturbed.

Just then Willow saw Faith striding across the lawn towards her. The brunette didn't look upset just worried. To top it all of off, Faith had on some serious bad girl clothing as Willow liked to call it. Between the blood red leather pants and black halter top and motorcycle boots Faith was wearing, she knew that her parents would most likely keel over in shock.

"Mom dad, excuse me for one moment." Willow didn't wait on an answer, but instead sprang up form her seat and ran towards Faith. She reached the brunette and turned her around so that their back was to her parents. "Faith, parents, those are my parents. You can't meet them like this. They'll disown me. I need you to find Buffy and Xander and get back to the house. Straighten up and all of you need to look presentable. Please, if I never ask you for another thing ever, do this for me?" Willow was petrified. She had never dreamt her parents would have come up here to see her. She hadn't really told them anything and she sure in the hell hadn't told them that she was living with her girlfriend. Hell she hadn't even told them she was dating anyone let alone a girl.

Faith nodded and didn't bother to ask any questions. Before she stepped away from the redhead, she was on the phone with Angel barking orders at him. Willow smiled and turned back to her parents. Okay, so where to start? She thought about just being as brutally honest as possible, but that may have caused some serious health problems and as much as she didn't see her parents she in no way wanted to visit them at the hospital or at a graveyard.

"Hey," She put on her best to impress the parents smile, "I'm done for the day and well, I can take you around campus and then we can go back to my place and I'll introduce you to everyone."

Ira and Sheila exchanged glances, her dad said, "Sure sweetheart. We just got so worried."

"It's fine dad I get it. Come on." She pulled her parents up and started her walk to the grotto. She needed a serious caffeine fix if she was gonna survive the afternoon. Buffy had kept her up until to 3 am thanking her. Not that Willow's was complaining, just that sex and no sleep and then parents tended to drain the hacker. Willow gave her parents one of the longest tours in UCSD history and by the time everything was finished Willow was ready to collapse.

It was 5pm by the time she got her parents to the house and much to her amazement, things were quiet. Faith had managed to get everything cleaned up.

"Hello? Anyone home?" Willow called out ushering her parents in.

Buffy rounded the corner first. She smiled and went in to give the redhead a kiss when Willow side stepped and caused Buffy to fumble a moment. Surprise was clear on the blonde's face, but she quickly covered it up and stuck her hand out to her girlfriend's parents.

"Hi I'm Buffy Summers."

"Mom, dad this is Buffy one of my roommates. Buffy this is Ira and Sheila Rosenberg."

Buffy again smiled at the two and waited for someone to take her hand, but when none was forthcoming she stuck her hand in her pocket and nodded.

"Willster, is that you?" Xander's voice rang out from the back of the house. He rounded the corner with a smile plastered across his face.

"This is Xander. Xander these are my parents."

Xander smiled and gathered Willow in a hug. "Hi, nice to meet you guys." Turning to Willow he asked, "Wills, I need a favor?"

"Hmmm?"

He stepped back and smiled sheepishly, "You, me pizza, and uh, maybe some biology? I've got my midterm and well I can't seem to get past the concept of photosynthesis."

"How about later on tonight? I..." Willow stopped and shot a quick look at her parents. "I've got to go with Buffy to her parents."

"Ah yeah sure no problem." Xander smiled and waved, "It was nice meeting you guys." He turned and left wondering why Willow was so freaked.

"Wills, mom said to meet her and Giles at Gio's at 6 is that going to be okay?"

Willow noticed her parents perk up at the thought of meeting other adults and groaned. "Come on in you guys and sit down. Buff can I see you in the kitchen for a moment?"

The girls split from the parents and moved into the kitchen. Buffy turned to Willow immediately, "Willow, why didn't you tell me about your parents coming up?"

"I...they kinda ambushed me on campus. I was walking to the grotto to meet Faith and they were there."

Buffy just stood there with a what face and urged the redhead to continue.

"Well it seems like they got the reimbursement for boarding and food and well they got freaked and Buffy please don't be mad, but they don't know about you. Sure they know about you but they don't know about us. I just didn't think it would be good to tell them ya know via e-mail..."

Buffy's lips formed a tight line as she listened to her girlfriend ramble. "Wills, you moved in here and didn't even tell them?"

"I did, I did tell them in an email, but telling was done. Is it my fault they don't read my emails."

"Baby, granted I never put much thought in to ya know them 'cuz they were a non-issue, but they're here and being issuey. What are we gonna do?"

"I don't know."

Buffy rested her hands on her hips for a moment and then took Willow in her arms. The redhead tensed up for a moment and then relaxed. Kissing the top of Willow's hair Buffy said, "We can do this. Ok. If you don't want to tell them now, that's fine. I can respect that, but at some point in time we're gonna have to come out to them."

"I know and I will and please Buff don't think I'm ashamed 'cuz I'm not."

"I know baby. Let's just get them gone and then we can go talk to my parent's and freak them out."

"I can do that. Buffy," Willow said looking up at the blonde through her eyelashes, "you know that, I mean, I love you."

Buffy brought her mouth down to meet the redheads and pulled her closer. It happened that way for the blonde, to get a spaced out Buffy just add Willow lips. The redhead's kisses made Buffy's head spin and knees go weak. Willow herself was lost in the embrace as well. She let her tongue slip inside the other girl's mouth and felt that sudden tug in her groin. She backed Buffy up against the sink and slid her hands under and around her shirt.

"Willo..." Sheila came around the corner and stopped as soon as she the two girls against the counter. She continued to watch and felt mildly voyeuristic considering her daughter didn't even hear her call her name. She backed out of the kitchen quietly and went to go sit with her husband still in shock.

Buffy tensed for a moment and looked up, but nobody was there. The blonde took her hands and slid them down Willow's hips and pulled her in tighter. Buffy's brain registered who was in the living room and she pulled away. A small whimper escaped Willow and she looked at her girlfriend.

"Parents, Wills, yours are in the living room. We need to stop before I can't."

Willow let an evil smile play at her lips, "Well it would be one way to tell them."

"For some reason I don't think having your parents walk in on us having crazy nakedness in the kitchen would make me their favorite person in the world."

"Probably not, but really now..." Willow let the thought hang as she brushed her hands down Buffy's chest letting them pause over the other girl's breasts.

"Evil, pure evil."

Willow just nodded and turned to leave. She felt better, calmer than she had since seeing her parent's running across the campus. The girls walked in to the living room to find Ira pacing the length of the room and chewing on his thumb.

"So you two, I have to go with Buffy to meet her parents for din..."

Ira spun around and threw his hands up in the air, "What are you doing? What's going on in that head of yours? I know the whole fall out with Ed was hard for you Willow, but I just never...why would..."

"Willow it's not that we don't or that we aren't supportive of alternative lifestyles it's just that." Sheila tried to cover her husband's tracks.

Willow's face paled as she heard her parents and immediately she sought out Buffy's hand. She felt the blonde come in behind her and grab her hand. "Uh? How?"

Sheila stopped and pointed to the kitchen, "I came in and you two were...were...you were kissing. Willow like I said it's not like we are homophobic, but why wouldn't you tell us? Is this all that Tami's doing?"

"What!? Mom, it's Tara for the last time and no this has nothing to do with Tara. Why would you say that?"

Ira sat down next to his wife, "Pumpkin, it's just that she's gay and then you come here to go to school and apparently although I didn't see it, but your mother did, you are obviously involved with a girl and you didn't even think to tell us?"

"You're living with her for god's sake dear. Don't you think we would have liked to know?" Sheila let out, tears welling up in her eyes.

Willow shook her head and tried to piece together her parent's comments. She drug Buffy to the love seat and sat down. "Wait; let me see if I can, you guys are upset not because Buffy's a girl, but because I didn't tell you?"

Sheila's voiced climbed, "Of course sweetheart, why else would we be upset! You moved in with someone that you're obviously seriously involved with and we haven't even met this person." Sheila looked to Buffy, "No offense dear, I'm sure you are a nice girl" Turning to Willow, "but it's only proper that we be introduced before you go and cohabitate with your...are you two lovers?"

"Mom!"

"Sheila!"

She turned to Ira and shrugged, "What honey, let's be logical about this. If they are living together than it stands to reason they are sleeping together."

"I can't know this!" Ira said standing up and pacing once again.

Sheila turned back to Willow, "Are you?" The woman set her features and Buffy had to suppress a giggle when she noticed the look. Resolve face, it's genetic.

Blushing Willow nodded.

"Ok then. We're just upset that you didn't bother to tell us that you, sweetheart, were living with your lover. I would have liked to have met her before all of this was done. You couldn't have let us know at the beginning of the year?"

"You two were in...Atlanta or Athens. You weren't around."

Buffy raised her hand to speak. Sheila just looked side long at the blonde. "I have an idea. I know Mr. And Mrs. Rosenberg that this probably wasn't what you were expecting when you came up here, but it's what it is. We have to meet my parents for diner in an hour. Why don't I make a phone call and you two can come and meet my parents. I would like to get the chance to talk with you some more and let you get to know me. Would two like to go to dinner with us?"

The two adults looked at each other and smiled. Sheila said, "Thank you Bunny that would be lovely."

"Buffy, mom. It's Buffy."

"Of course Willow." Sheila just smiled absently.
