chapter 6

[reviews]

Willow was just finishing putting the final touches on her make-up when she heard her mother call from downstairs. "You're friend is outside waiting for you, Willow."

" 'Kay mom. Be down in a sec." Willow grabbed her handbag and went go out into the hallway. She was about to go down the stairs when she paused then made a detour to her parent's bedroom. She found her mother's perfume on the dresser and put a touch behind each ear.

Armed for combat, she thought as she rushed down the stairs and out the door.

Buffy was at the top of the walk once again and was looking even more beautiful then ever. Willow remembered how casually they had dressed the first time they had met to go with the Chandlers to the drive-in. Now, here we are, Willow said to herself. Me spruced to the tens and Buffy.........oh my how gorgeous she looked.

Buffy was wearing a red, green and yellow mid-thigh plaid skirt. Her blouse was a white, sleeveless, collared cotton affair with a narrow layer of ruffles down the front. She had on a pair of polished black Mary Jane shoes and white knee stockings. Her blond hair was drawn into the poni-tail she preferred and tied in place with a simple white ribbon. On each ear was a white pearl earring.

The urge to rush up and kiss her surfaced inside Willow but that would be the dumbest thing she could do. Buffy was wearing a light reddish pink shade of lipstick and Willow had to force herself to look away from those lips until she could control herself.

"Ready," Willow said and the two walked off in the direction of the Chandlers. They didn't exchange much talk. Willow was rehearsing in her mind what she would say to Buffy once they reached the drive-in. Buffy seemed content, or so it appeared, to keep to her own thoughts.

Damn, Willow thought, Buffy looked so desirable that if things went bad her loss would be unbearable. She again had second thoughts about telling Buffy how much she cared for her. Perhaps I should just remain a secret admirer. That might be best.

The scene at the drive-in was the same and the Chandlers were gone within seconds of stopping the car.

"Sure glad you came," Willow said. "Being at a drive-in, alone would be a bummer."

"I hear ya. But I had to come really."

"You did?"

"Yep. It's your turn to make the popcorn run."

Willow laughed and just Buffy's simple joke made her feel better about what lie ahead. Willow also felt better about another thing. Connie, who the driver, had swerved around a corner too fast and Buffy had slid over closer to Willow. And hadn't bothered to move away. Willow, certainly, didn't mind that at all. Her hips were against Buffy's and had it felt good.

They were still in that position now and it was close enough that Willow could smell the perfume Buffy was wearing. She had made the same effort that Willow had and that was to be...............?

"Buff?"

"Yeah."

This is the moment Willow thought. Let 'er go girl.

"I need to apologize to you. It's been bothering me for a week and I just have to get out or I'll die."

"It's been bothering me too," Buffy sighed.

Oh brother, Willow thought knowing it was too late to turn back.

But Buffy continued. "Look. You don't owe me an apology."

"But I do. I don't know what came over me, Buffy." What a lie that is. I know exactly came over me. I have the hots for you.

Buffy swung toward Willow, her eyes pleading. "Willow. It was an accident. I can't believe I was stupid enough to have them."

"Have what?" Willow didn't know what Buffy was referring to.

"Have those stakes in my purse. I mean..........how dumb. It was an accident you knocked them over onto the floor. Please, please don't think me some kind of a deranged manic that goes around.........."

"Whoa, whoa," Willow took one of Buffy's hands. "I don't think anything of the kind."

"You don't? Oh thank heavens." The relief in Buffy's voice was evident. "I've been so worried that you think I'm some sort of a lunatic. Believe me I've been worried sick."

"Well you can stop worrying now. As a matter of fact I think it's kind of cool. I mean you being a vampire slayer and all. I have to admit it didn't, maybe it still hasn't, sunk in. It's not exactly a concept I ever expected to deal with but, Buffy, I can assure you that how I think about you won't change no matter what."

"Willow. You've been so ....what?... out of sorts around me. All I could think of was what else could it be?"

Here we go, Willow thought. "Buffy. That's what I want to apologize for. It's why I have been worried sick of what you thought of me."

Buffy shook her head. "I don't get it."

"Buffy, I could care less about those stakes and what they mean at this moment. I've been worried about what happened just before that."

Buffy pulled her head back in surprise. "Before that? You mean?"

"I lost my head. I don't know why I did........I should have never tried and now everything is ruined." Then Willow added. "Isn't it?"

Buffy smiled tenderly. "Oh Willow. You've been worried because we almost kissed?"

"Sort of. Well ..... yeah."

"I was involved in that kiss ya know. I was moving to kiss you too."

"You were?"

"Here," Buffy said. "Let's get that out of the way once and for all."

Buffy reached out with the tips of her left hand and ran them softly across Willow's cheek. She trailed the fingers down along Willow's jawline and then down onto the redheads neck. Her eyes were locked on the green eyes before her as the hand gripped the back of Willow's neck.

"By the way, I like your perfume."

"And yours is..........." Willow never finished the sentence for Buffy pulled her head forward and her mouth covered Willow's lips burying the words in her throat. After that words didn't really matter.
