When Angels Fall

Chapter two: Mama I'm Strange.

October, 10 1999

When Buffy woke up again, it was because of the noise. Lots of noise. Buffy
rolled over to see Xander with his knee slammed into the creature's back,
pinning it to the floor. Buffy come see that the creature had a black eye
and an open cut dripping blue blood from its forehead.
Her mother and Willow were coming through the door and she could hear Giles'
voice in the background.
"Xander get off of her." Buffy screamed. It occurred to Buffy, that she was
not exactly sure when the creature had become a her, in her mind, but it was
a her, a very young her. The room was entirely to noisy for Buffy. "Shut up,
you all are making too much noise." The Slayer screamed.
Everyone stopped.
"Xander, get off of Kir and put something on that cut of hers. And one of
you, just one tell me what is going on hear." The wounded Slayer demanded,
taking charge.
No one spoke, not for a long while, though Xander did pick the creature up
and start looking for something to stop it's bleeding.
"Honey," Joyce began. "You've been missing for 3 days. "
"I didn't realize I was out that long. But what's with the banging my little
friend here around." Buffy was now getting memories of little things. She
and the girl had spoken several times when she could stay awake, which had
not been for very long until, Buffy was just guessing it was the last time.
"Honey, I didn't mean to hit her I didn't know she was a friend. When she
showed up at the door." Joyce trailed off.
"We thought, she was trying to black mail us, holding you for hostage."
Willow added.
"I see why you don't like slayers, this happens often when you help people?"
Buffy asked Kir, while scolding friends with her eyebrows.
"Generally, when ever I go near humans, things like this happen. The blue
creature whispered to Buffy huddling in the corner.
Buffy knew what must have happened. Kir had gone to her house to get help.
Her mother laid eyes on the demon and started swing. When the others showed
up and she tried to explain they misunderstood her. The girl was in general
afraid of humans. Even more of slayers. Buffy could see why, Kir was a
little paranoid.
Buffy was remembering the events over the past three days, but it was still
fussy. She got glances but the dizziness and pain made it had to
concentrate. To put events in a linear order.
"I told you, she couldn't get anyone on the telephone, it was always busy.."
Kir said in some kind of defense. As the Scooby gain began to check over the
slayer.
"Yes well it looks like we rather owe you an apology." Giles said.
"Hospital please, she is hurt." Was all the shaking little creature said.

Buffy remembered nothing else for 24 more hours. When she woke again, she
was in her room at her mothers house. Her mother was placing a trey of
crunchy peanut sandwiches without the crust in front of her. "How are you
feeling?"
"Ok, I think, the world has stopped spinning. "
The doctor said you should take it easy for a few weeks, doesn't know why
you are, as health as you are. It was a bad concussion. They almost did
surgery to take the pressure of the skull. It all ready being cracked is
what the doctor thinks saved you.
"Kir, That little creature that saved my life, is she Ok?" Buffy asked.
I feel awful about that. Once we got you to the car she took off. But she
said to tell you, Wait, I wrote it down. She said to tell you that you were
not as mean as other slayers, she had met and that she was really just
hoping you don't kill her. I hope that means something to you." Nerves
little thing, but I am so grateful to her. She never did tell us what
happened though.

October, 2009

Kir went home and slept until 4 AM without moving. She then went to hunt
for food before the sun rose. For the next two weeks she played it cool. She
went faithfully to school doing poorly on all her homework and classes
except for math. And she did her own homework without the nuns help. She
gave the nuns the job of translating a couple of books in Latin that Giles
had sent her on body thieves. She also sent the nuns around to the different
churches looking for missing icons or power pieces that the demon might be
using.
Kir had been keeping track of her movements through the city on a map and
the sisters began to plot possible evil power points, looking up information
about the points in the library when Kir was at school.
On the drug enforcement side Kir was making progress. She knew most of the
kids who were casual users and who were pushers. Her boss had brought in at
least two of them for questioning. They were getting closer to the city's
big pushers. It just was going to take time. Mostly, because they now knew,
there were 7 major pushers, all connected to a larger operation. Bust just
one of them and you would lose the rest, only to have them start over. To
take them out meant busting the 7 at the same time to keep from losing them
or losing their main source. This meant a lot more high school for Kir. So
Kir's days became the circle of classrooms, sleep, high school hang outs,
hunting for diner, demon searching, homework then back to school.
After a month Kir needed a day off. Even the sisters agreed. So Saturday
she slept in, talked to her cat, wrote some letters to Buffy and Willow.
Slept some more, watched some TV and then had to get out of the house. So
Kir went to were she always went when she needed to be a person, that wasn't
a rankin or cop. She went to Divine Madness a local lesbian bar in West
Hollywood. She knew a few people there but not a lot. Yet most knew her
face there, as she knew theirs. It was a far cry from Willies in Sunnydale.
At 10:30 she was winning a game of pool against her friend Kim Maxwell.
She had met Kim in the police academy. Kir had liked Kim from the start and
Kim's life partner Lonnie. Lonnie was a High School history teacher at
William's High. Lonnie had almost blown Kir 's cover once when the demon cop
was undercover at William's. Now it was a source of great laughs for the
three.
"Eight ball, Corner pocket. " Kir shot and the ball hit the pocket. "She
sinks and scores, the crowd goes wild."
"Got Lucky?" Kim said, not seriously
"God, I can't remember the last time I got lucky. Want another beer?
Lonnie?"
Lonnie shook her head yes, to indicate she wanted another beer "What ever
happened to the that too die for blond you hang out with sometimes."
Kir picked up Lonnie's and Kim's empty beers, as she headed to the bar. "You
mean Buffy or Kate? One is straight and they're both taken. Beside they're
friends. At least I think Buffy is."
Kir put the 3 empty beer bottles on the counter and paid Clara for three
more beers that hit her hands almost as the empties hit the counter.
"Too bad you always know the beautiful unavailable ones kid. Kir, honey,
you're a fox." Lonnie noticed the look on Kim's face and added. "And way too
young looking for my taste." They all laughed at that.
"Yeah, you look like a high school student." Kim added, before sipping her
beer. After a moment of silence Kim and Lonnie bust into laughter at their
inside joke about Kir's supernatural youth.
"Yeah, laugh now, but when you too are old and grey I will probably still be
young and pretty." Kir secretly wonder about the truth to these words.
Kim and Lonnie were still laughing, as Kim fell into Lonnie's lap.
Then there was a loud bang from outside the entrance door. Martha who owned
the bar came running over to Kim. "Kim I hate to ask but there is trouble
outside, some drunk soldiers wanting in to see the show, I could use a cop"
Martha then spotted Kir and added looking at into her eyes "Or two. Didn't
know you were here Kir."
Kim said "Sure Martha, come on little cop" Kim then pulled on
Kir's shirt to follow her.
The two women headed to the door, when Kir split off and headed out the back
way.
Kim hit the sidewalk, as four drunk Marines were pushing Mary the Bouncer
and two other women. The seasoned cop recognized them as members of Dykes on
Bikes. Not women, you push around easily.
"OK, That is enough. LAPD now brake it up or I will have to take you down
town." Kim was showing her badge.
Two other soldiers who had been watching joined their company and the crew
cut leader said, "You and what army."
Kir, had come up from behind followed by half the bar. Which consisted of
Lonnie, Martha, Clara and maybe 15 more women.
"The Army would be me. Now boys do me a favour, call it a night. Find
another bar to get thrown out of tonight." Kir like Kim, was holding her
badge out.
"Right you two think you can stop us?" Said a drunk corporal, laughing and
was joined by his buddy's.
"No, Just one of us " Kim said smiling.
"Right, like to see you try Dyke." Said the corporal shouted as he swung at
Kim. Kir caught the punch in mid swing and flipped the Marine to the ground.
She then tripped the nearest two army brats, jumped over them and pinned the
last two by pulling her gun out and placing it to the head of one and
putting her foot against the other's neck and pushing him against the wall.
This whole exchange took less then a minute.
Martha had called the police before coming out side and they arrived to find
Kim and Martha with the Marines against the wall with their hands up.
Kim knew the officers, Bob Richmond and Carol Marks, So she gave them the
score minus Kir's preference. They loaded up the Marines and took them to
the station to wait until their C.O. came and got them. They would be
charged with Drunk and Disorderly until their C.O. picked them up then the
charges would be dropped.
Kir had returned inside with Lonnie. Martha, told Clare to put Lonnie's,
Kir's and Kim's drinks on the house.
Kir had got another beer and was trying to cool down, by playing
Joyce at
eight ball. She hadn't notice a woman come over to Lonnie.
"Hi Lonnie, I see your girlfriend was defending the masses out there, I
caught the police retreat."
"Actually it was Kir who did most of the defending. That you should have
seen. Every time I see Kir do her Kung Fu act I am just amazed. I have never
seen anybody that fast before."
"Kir odd name, I have a Kir in one of my classes."
"I didn't think anyone else had that name in the world. You know Donna, the
two of you might hit it off. She's a cop and spends most of her time
undercover but she's really nice. Kim and her went to the academy together."
"A cop, well I don't know if I can stand another of your matching making
attempts, Lonnie."
"I make one mistake, and you were with Karen for 5 months, so it couldn't
have just been all my mistake now could it."
"Ok, so tell me more about this cop"
"Why tell, when you can meet."
Lonnie grabbed Donna's hand and dragged her to the pool table. "Hey, Kir I
have somebody I want you to meet."
"Sure Lonnie let me make this shot. Eight Ball side pocket. And that is
Game. And I ladies am done for the night. My lucky is just about up. Thanks
Joyce"
Kir put the stick on the wall and walk to Lonnie, then she looked at Lonnie
and the women standing next to her. "Oh shit," Kir moaned then added "Mrs
Lawrence nice to see you."
Lonnie shook her head, "Let me guess Kir you are undercover at Beverly"
"Yes, that would be me blowing my cover. So Mrs Lawrence, can I get you a
beer or a drink or something?"
"A beer would be great,'
"Me too Kiron." Added Lonnie, amused by Kir's life.
"Me three!" Added Kim, as she popped in and kissed Lonnie.
Kir returned a minute later with four beers and sat down at the table.
"I should have guessed you were a cop, actually I had no idea other then you
were the most frustrating student, I had this semester."
"No, that is just Kir, she lives to frustrate the world." Kim smiled
"You know I need to stay undercover for a while. I need to continue being a
frustratingly bad student. Keep in with the drug crowd. And I will need you
to treat me like you always have which is actually pretty good considering
what a bitch I have been"
"Well at least one thing you said makes sense now. When I told you that you
couldn't just keep repeating high school and make a living and you said and
I quota If that were only true."
The table irrupted in laughter. "Lonnie said, that you have been undercover
at most of the area high schools at one time or another."
"Most might be pushing it. I am really sorry about the whole sleeping in the
car thing and homework. I was just so tried from trying to do two jobs.
There are just so many reports one can write, Keggers one can go to and
bills one can pay."
"So you didn't do your homework that day."
"Nope, arrest me, actually two nuns did it for me, they thought they were
helping me, but I did do the other work that was badly done and the test
scores those were mine."
"You were serious about the nuns."
"Never a dull moment with you is there Kir?" Kim said before she squeezed
Lonnies hand, to signal the sparks flying between her two friends.
"Weird yet, here I am drinking with a student. Weird." Donna stated, before
asking more questions. "Ok so what about the demon thing, just added for
drug related reasons."
"No, not the chancing demon thing, It's getting old. Please get a new line."
Kim added downing her beer
"She uses demon chasing, as an excuse often does she?" Donna wanted to know.
"Oh and don't let her start on Vampires, or Vampire something's that kill
vampires. She can go on for hours It is really funny stuff." Lonnie smiled
and downed her beer to catch up with Kim.
"Yeah well I have to go chase some now, It was good to met you Donna, Maybe,
when I am not your student. Do you like movies? Or whatever, diner? Lonnie
has my number, Now the school number that's the police monitor thing.. Call
me?"
"She really isn't that different in class, is she Donna?" Lonnie asked.
"No, not really. It's been nice seeing you again but I need to go.

Donna left the bar and headed to her car. Once safely in, she picked up her
cell phone. After a long series on numbers, followed by computer sounds she
hung up. Within seconds she pressed the talk button for an incoming call.
"You remember that high school kid I called about William, Turns out to be
an undercover cop."
"No, I have no idea what to think."
"Yes I am sure she's not human."
"A half-breed is possible. William she moves fast, real fast. She is strong
too!"
"I am sure she isn't a slayer?"
"No, not a potential slayer either."
"I know I said she has a soul. That I am sure of. It is so clear."
"Innocent."
"The Oracle sent me here to find something dangerous."
"She fits the description, William."
"So do I go to phase two. Do I contact the rough slayer?"
"And what about her lover, her CIA connection might make this even more
dangerous."
"You got her school records I faxed this morning."
"Ok I will see, if I can get her police records. Call you tomorrow."

Buffy: I don't play well with others.
