When Angels Fall

Chapter one: What we have done and who have we become.

October, 7 2009

When Angels fall, do men see them land? When demons raise, is the same
true?
Or are the events in heaven and hell, recorded in men's eyes only to be
interpreted as naturally occurring events, like storms or floods.
In Kir's mind presently, demons had raisin and they were currently discussed
as two Nuns and a Math teacher. Worse, she hadn't had any sleep in 3 days.
Not since the nuns had moved into her home. It was times like these she
both
missed and felt sorry for Buffy.
Buffy's life couldn't be much fun, if she got stuck in, with the side of
good, when it came in packages like these bloody witch nuns. They had
actually done her math homework last night, when she was chasing down a lead
on the body theft, after she had gone home to change out of her beer soaked
clothes from yet another kegger. Now all she wanted to do was sleep. Instead
her
maths teacher was looking at the homework. Kir didn't know she had done and
trying to accuse her of cheating without accusing her of cheating. Kir
wondered how she got through high school, the first time much less the 20
odd times she had been sent back undercover. She had been hoping to hide in
the corner of the class and sleep for the hour but Kir being this tired had
accidentally dropped her math book on the way in and Mrs Lawrence picked it
up with her homework hanging from inside of the book.
Mrs Lawrence, had been almost as shocked, to find that she had done her
homework as Kir, herself. Now the class was over and here she was. Still at
Mrs Lawrence's desk waiting for her teacher to look over her homework for
the 3rd time.
"Kir, I am very happy that you did the assignment for class, for the first
time this month but, I have some questions about the work."
Kir smiled at the tact, Mrs Lawrence was using in order to not accuse her of
cheating.
"Point, there is a point to this right?" The young detective said, in her
smart-ass'ed student way that worked well undercover.
"Right, I will get to the point Kir." Mrs Lawrence said, leaning back in her
chair putting her elbows on her desk. "Kir, who did your homework?"
"Finally!" Kir sighed out loud. Mrs Lawrence just continued to throw icicle
stares and waited for the answer. "You want the truth? Well, two nuns
living in my bedroom did my homework while I was either at Mike Dawson's
Party or when I was cruising the back allies looking for an invisible
demon."
"This not a joking matter, Kir , do you ever think about what you will do
after high school is over, it's not like you will be able to go to high
school over and over again for the rest of your life and make a living."
"If that were only not true."
"What?" Mrs. Lawrence said, louder then she meant to.
Kir cursed to herself, she was too tired, to make any sense so she added,
"It really depends on the phasing." In a try for a quick save, though she
began to wonder, if she would ever make sense again.
"It doesn't matter Mrs. Lawrence, just give me a problem and if I get it
right, let me go, deal. "Ok, you did the odd problems on page 152 for
homework, so do number 12 on the board."
Kir picked up her book, pulled her sunglasses down from the top of her head,
to hide her non-human vision and then wrote the problem on the board. Kir
was thinking, < Thank god it's math! I can at least fake this subject.
English, is much harder to fake.>
The non-human quickly worked the problem and then stepped from the board.
"Can I go now, Mrs Lawrence?"
"Do you always were your sunglasses, to do you have problems?"
"They are prescription, is that a crime?" And that was no lie, a Dr. Willow
Rosenburg currently of the CIA had prescribed them for her. Willow may not
have been an eye doctor, but she probably knew more about demon anatomy than
anyone, living or un-living, as the case may be. Not that Kir was exactly a
demon, she just wasn't exactly human and her body knew it.
"Yes. Well, they certainly make a difference in your work. It seems you can
do math very well, maybe, I will see more of your talents in class from now
on."
Kir smiled. "Wouldn't hold your breathe for it." And with that she was out
the door.
She had wanted instinctively to use her super speed, but Mrs. Lawrence
wasn't a demon foe, or at least Kir didn't think she was, which meant no
speed use in the area.
After this, the tired police officer, had decided to ditch PE and crash in
the parking lot for a couple of classes.
Five hours later, campus security was banging on her car. Kir open her
eyes to see Baney Philth, That wasn't his real name but it was the only one
she had ever heard him called. Barney was knocking on the back window
screaming at her. In her sleepy state she couldn't make out the words only
there intent.
She shook herself awake and opened the back door of her 79 Maverick. "Yeah,
what's Up dude?"
"I was rather worried about you, when I realized you left my class late
without a note, so when I went to bring your note to your next class. I
found that you hadn't made it to the gym."
Kir was surprised to see Mrs Lawrence standing next to Barney calmly waiting
for her to get out of the car.
"Sorry, I came out to get something, and I must have fallen asleep. I will
get to class, ah gym class right now." Kir was still so tired, she was just
trying to catch up with the world.
"That won't be necessary since your gym class ended 4 and ½ hours ago."
"Man, sorry."
"Kir, takeoff your glasses for a minute."
Kir shifted, uncomfortably and moved away from her car. As she moved away,
Barney Philfh leaned into the car looking or likely smelling for drugs or
alcohol. Being a cop she knew the look of a man with a mission.
"OK, but when Barney finishes eyeballing my car can he shut the door."
"Kir sit down on the bench, please."
Kir moved to sit down she could see the look in the other students eyes, as
they past by on there way home. She wondered if this would help or hurt her
undercover work.
"Glasses, please." Mrs. Lawrence said, as she leaned over to look in Kir's
eyes.
This was always hard for Kir, her eyes wanted to glow, whenever she felt
threatened. It was an instinct she had never really learned to control, as
well as, she would have liked.
Mrs Lawrence looked deep into Kir 's eyes, then she took out a small
flashlight and tried to measure Kir's responses.
"You won't get the responses you are looking for with that."
"And why would that be Kir?"
"It's not drugs, if that is what you're thinking. If you know what you are
looking for you'll see it's an eye thing."
"Barney, did you find anything in the car?" Mrs Lawrence asked.
Kir thought, wow this poor guys name really is Barney.
"Nothing Mrs Lawrence. Do you want me to call the cops, to bring a dog out?"
"No thank you Barney, just shut the door please." Then turning to Kir, she
held out her hand to Kir. " Glasses please?"
Kir having no choice, handed Mrs Lawrence her overly dark sunglasses. Mrs
Lawrence, then went back to looking at Kir's eyes with the flashlight. After
another minute she turned off the light and sat down next to Kir on the
Bench. She then picked up Kir's glasses and held them up to the sun for
another minute looking at the prescription, which was really more of a
tinting, than an actual prescription.
"You seem to be running, two for one specials with me today, Kir." The
math's teacher stated.
"Which, in terms I can understand means?" Kir had the urge to run, but
experience told her to sit still and concentrate on keeping her eyes human.
"You can do your homework, and your eyes have something wrong with them, but
it doesn't appear to be drug related, as far as I can prove."
"And you are innocent, until proven guilty in the state of California." Kir
added.
Then reminding herself of her undercover status, she went on to add. "So
what do you want from me?"
"What do want from yourself Kiron. You are one of my brightest students, you
never study. It's like you try to fail tests. You do your homework so
seldom, that when you do it, It is cause for a nation holiday. You
apparently need your glasses to read, but you are intent on letting your
teachers think they are sunglasses, used to hide drug use."
"Kir. I was worried about you, and when I couldn't wake you and I called Mr
Hudson to help me wake you."
Kir's blank look gave the math's teacher cause to stop and add. "Mr Hudson
is called Barney Philth by the students."
"Oh, is his real first name Barney?"
"Yes, but that doesn't mean you need to make fun of him. And it is besides
the point. Kir you can't spend you life like this."
"Look the eye thing, I'm impressed you caught it, most people don't. But I
was just tried I didn't mean to sleep school away. I just needed a day off.
Now are you taking me to see Principle Doren or do I just get to go home and
sleep on the, the memories of the nuns." She rushed, her tired brain, but
she still finsh. "Coach."
"Go home and SLEEP. Get well and come back to school and try paying
attention for a change."
"God, thank you."
"Yeah, well don't make me regret this."
Kir, took her que to get out, before things go worse.

October, 7 1999

Buffy was bleeding from more then a dozen wounds. She had dusted so many
vamps she lost count. There were still at lest 10 standing with more on the
way. Buffy was running out of juice. She was running out of time and she
knew it. There were still 5 hours until dawn.
Buffy just kept on fighting, she was going to take as many of them with
her. Then she was clubbed from behind. The world turned into slow motion, as
she began the fall to the ground. She said a silent pray for Willow, wishing
she had the courage to tell her how much she loved her.
Just before she lost conciseness she saw something moving fast towards her.
In those last seconds she wondered, if it was death.
When Buffy woke she found herself in the underground somewhere. She was
in a nest of some kind. A vampire nest Buffy thought. She was on a matress
wrapped in blankets. Her wounds had been bandaged. Her head, which felt like
a sledgehammer was slamming into it, was wrapped in a white cloth. Buffy
could tell it was deeply blood soaked.
Buffy tried to get up, but was so dizzy she gave up within minutes.
She began to look around the tunnel. "Yes, that is what this is, a tunnel
but to were?" Buffy said to the empty room. The tunnel slash room, was
actually fairly clean for an underground demon home. There were milk crates
on one wall that held cloths, candles, batteries, and bottled water. There
was a bottle of water left by her mat. Buffy opened and as carefully as her
head would allow she drank it all. There were other homely touches. A chair
with crates beside it and cinder block and wood footrest. A radio sat beside
the chair. Then Buffy saw something that scared her. By the chair was a
small stack of books. They were all Dr. Suess books. The Cat and the Hat was
lying open.
Buffy almost had a heart attack at that moment as small hands placed
another bottle of water beside the bed. When Buffy jumped the creature
jumped across the room.
"Jeez, you scared me to death." Buffy said, as the creature huddled in the
corner.
As Buffy looked at the creature, she realize it was more afraid of her, then
she was of it. The creature was wrapped up in black clothes with a hood
pulled over its head. It was small, about 4 and half feet tall. Its eyes
were glowing bright red, its ears were pointed, and Buffy guessed it might
have fuzzy blue skin under all those cloths.
For the longest time it just huddled staring at the slayer. The slayer
smiling to herself just stared back. After growing bored of this, Buffy
spoke, "So are you going to hurt me?"
Buffy could tell the creature had no intention of harming he,r but in her
world things were not always as they seemed.
The Creature shook its head no and started to move closer to Buffy. It was
cautious.
Buffy moved to get the water and the creature flew back with super speed.
It moved faster then anything Buffy had ever fought.
"I just wanted my water, guy." The creature appeared from it's hiding place,
in few minutes and started moving towards Buffy.
"You got a name. I'm Buffy," The slayer waited, then drank the water still
waiting for the creature to do anything. "Great it probably doesn't have a
clue, as to what I am saying"
"Kir." The creature said.
"Ok, Kir, to you to." Buffy answered gently touching her head. The water was
hitting her stomach like the cup ride at Disney Land.
"No, my name is Kir, you asked my name slayer."
"Kir, good name,.. name, ...My name is," Buffy was having trouble focusing.
"Buffy." the creature cut off the slayer, as it gentle took the water out of
the slayers hands and helped Buffy back under the covers.
"I know your name slayer, I'm not human that doesn't mean I'm stupid." The
Creature said, as it tucked and checked over the slayer.
Hours or Days later Buffy woke to the creature covering her. She answered
as, if she was still at the same point in an earlier conversation.
"Oh sorry, I am just really confused." Buffy had no idea what to say.
"It's the concussion. I should have taken you to the hospital, but there
were to many evil ones, and you are not exactly light. Not that it means
anything, really. You were just too big for me to care quickly in the right
direction. Here was closer."
"You saved me?"
"Saved isn't exactly the word I would use, we were just going in the same
direction ."
"And what direction was that?"
"Away from death, look I didn't save you. I would appreciate you not saying
to anyone about this. Just for a point of reference I don't like slayers.
Besides here don't care much for the slayer, and they care even less for me,
so ...well you see were I am going with this."
"Yeah, so point me in the direction of out and I am gone."
"Sure, just get up and walk are out of here slayer. If it were that easy I
would shove you out the door myself."
Buffy rolled over to try and stand. She couldn't get up, the world was just
spinning to fast and her stomach was trying to come up on it's own.
"Sorry, You really are in bad shape. I need to get you to a hospital but
there are several problems with that."
"Such as?" Buffy replied, while trying to lie perfectly still and stopping
the merry-go-round ride she was on.
"First, I can't carry you. Second I haven't really been able to leave you in
last few days. You have been really ill. And last and this has been the
most important reason, the whole group of pissed off vampires that you
didn't manage to dust have been combing the sewers looking for you and most
likely me as well. You friends must have started looking for you and word
got around that you never made it out of the tunnels.'
"Oh." Was all the slayer said.
"And Just on a personal note, getting you out of here has other issues for
me, as well."
"One, I don't want you to know were I live, I don't want to die just yet, so
I have to get you out of here so you won't come back. Look you are a little
more stable now but you haven't really gotten better so I was wondering."
"Go on, tell me if you have a plan."
"I can't really carry you very far. I'm not very strong,"
"No, but your fast." Slayer stated
"So would your watcher come get you if I called him? Could he get someone to
help him right?"
"Sure they are most likely looking for me now."
"Would you give me the number or address?"
"That is not a problem." Buffy gave the little creature Giles and her
mothers phone numbers and street addresses.
It was harder than Buffy thought, to remember numbers that she knew by
heart. She was growing more and more tired and the numbers just danced in
and out of her brain..

Buffy: I don't play well with others.
