Um, ok, I'm just a (wanna-be) writer, not a lawyer either. But as far
as I can tell, really the only substantial difference between NC and
CA in sentencing is that Murder 1 carries a sentence of 25 to life,
life, or life w/o possibility of parole. Death is reserved for murder
with Special Circumstances (such as multiple murder, murder of law
enforcement officials, etc.).
