Anything But Ordinary

[reviews]

Disclaimer: I don't own most of them. But I do own Jamie, Carol, Taryn and Arica. They are the products of my own twisted imagination.

Rating: R-NC-17 for language and (at times) vivid sexual imagery

Archive: http://nykademis.populli.net (or it will be soon)

Pairing: Buffy/Willow, Xander/OC, Faith/OC

Title: Anything But Ordinary

Author: Tori

Autor's Note: This is somewhat AU I think. Kind of an alternate Season 4. Oz is gone. Tara's not in it (but I do love her) Joyce isn't in it much (on account of Buffy being all busy and stuff with summer classes) Giles is there for a short time (he leaves soon 'oops spoiled ya') and Riley just doesn't happen.

The young woman slid as she turned the corner sharply into the alley. Sliding in the grime she regained her balance and continued to give chase.

The little creature she was chasing glanced over it's shoulder and picked up speed. Bracing itself it bent low and planned for distance.

Darting behind a tree, it used the darkness as cover it's escape.

"Fucking little demon" the young woman swore under her breath. Following into the pitch black tree's she slowed. Glancing around slowly she tried to let her eyes adjust to the darkness.

After several minutes she deemed it useless and made her way from the shadows.

"That was 'so' unfufilling"

Buffy sighed in boredom as she walked slowly through the graveyard. It was midsummer and slow in the demon community. Not a Master or wanna-be in sight.

"You know, I almost wish there was some type of menace" Willow said watching the area they'd just passed through "I'd actually 'like' to fight something right about now"

"I can relate" Buffy rolled her eyes "What, they can't make new vamps in July? Is it some unwritten law?"

"Maybe they're on vacation" Willow hopped around the slayer.

Buffy giggled at her sometimes hyper friends antics.

"We know they didn't go anywhere sunny. Maybe we can find this dark gloomy vacation spot and stake 'em all!" Willow spoke excitedly using hand gestures.

They both came to a startled stop when a womanly scream erupted and bushes not far from them began to rustle.

Buffy positioned herself to attack at any moment and Willow brandished her stake.

Xander came running from the dark trees waving his hands as if he were in some scary B movie "Little monkey demon. Demon monkey. It jumped right over my head!" pointing comically into the trees he hid behind the redheaded witch.

"A monkey demon?" Buffy stared at him incredulously.

"Yes a little monkey demon thingy. It had pointy little ears and a tail!" Xander pointed animatedly "It's in there look for yourself"

Buffy and Willow exchanged a look.

"Reveal" Willow whispered waving a hand to the entire grove of trees.

A very human squeal erupted, several decibals lower than Xanders, and a small body came shooting from the trees.

Buffy jumped back in alarm as the small form landed inches from her feet.

All three gasped in surprise when the saw the face of the creature.

Save for the pointed ears and forked tail it appeared to be a human girl of no more than 8 or 9 years of age. Long blonde hair fell over elfin features as she crouched before the slayer. A light blue jacket covered her form.

Sensing both the danger and power in the woman before her the child spoke.

"Please don't hurt me..I...I just wanna go home"

They all stood silent for long minutes.

"Ok" Buffy said blinking.

The little demon disappeared in a streak of blue, the jacket waving behind her.

"Well that was weird" Willow said shaking herself mentally.

"Yeh" Buffy and Xander chorused.

Dashing from the graveyard the girl ran along the road leading into the main streets of Sunnydale proper.

Taking back alleys and sidestreets she made her way to the rundown motel where she'd first seen the dark young woman who chased her.

"Jamie" a voice whispered from a far doorway.

"Mom?" Jamie braced herself on a beat up old car and peeked over the hood.

"Jamie sweetie I'm here" the voice beckoned "The last room. Come here baby"

Slowly balancing herself on long fingers she made her way in the shadows to the last room.

A woman with long blonde hair opened the door and her arms wide.

"Mommy!" Jamie threw herself into the room.

Magically the door shut behind them as they embraced on the floor.

"Who the hell was chasing her?" the third woman in the room asked "I mean how did she know? James here looked all human and good and she 'still' knew what she was!"

"Jamie 'is' human!" the woman hissed holding her daughter close "I don't know how she knew. But my god this 'is' the mouth of hell. We'd better expect the unexpected"

"Oh" the girl rolled her eyes "and just 'why' are we here again?"

"The witch. We need to find the witch" the woman reminded her "We need her, or we'll never be free of this curse"

"But you saw what the text said" the girl ticked off her fingers " 'Find she who dwells where demons roam, with champions protected. Find she who seeks the fairy's bones, and Angels resurrected' I'm thinking we're looking for more than one witch here Care" the young woman sat back in the ratty chair and blew her black hair from her face.

"We need 'the' witch" Carol carried her limp and whimpering daughter to the old bed.

It sank a bit in the middle. Jamie's small shaking body rolled into the indentation.

"I think we need 'the' witch*es* personally but I'm following you here"

"Your right Arica you 'are' following me" Carol sat on the bed and rubbed her daughters back "It'll do you good to remember that"

Arica rolled her sky blue eyes and made herself comfortable in the chair "God even you 'EX' watchers are pushy"

On the other side of town......(you know the side with HOUSES)

Taryn jerked out of her nightmare. She'd dreamed she was being chased by a young woman dressed almost completely in black, shouting obsenities at her everytime she gained some ground.

"God I can't even have 'normal' dreams anymore?" wiping her wet brow she climbed out of her bed.

Pausing to listen she waited for the sounds of the personal hell she called home to filter in.

There was a banging of dishes, and soft swearing coming from the downstairs kitchen.

Her mother was awake, and obviously intoxicated.

"Not up for a round of Mom quite yet" she whispered to herself. Pulling on her nearest yoga outfit (she liked the way they fit) she climbed from her window.

Inching down the slanted roof she hung from the porch overhang and landed lightly on her feet. Backing quietly but quickly away from her house, she headed towards the Campus of UC Sunnydale.
