Chapter four

The Demon woke to a strange sensation, which lasted only a second before disappearing. The first thing that It noticed was that there was fresh blood in the air. The second thing was that It was hungry, despite having eaten earlier, and It wanted fresh blood. The final thing It realised was that It didn't feel an ounce of guilt for wanting to eat whoever was bleeding.

The Demon sat up with a start. The soul that used to be housed in the body, along with the Slayer essence, was gone.

The thing that used to be Buffy Summer's slowly stood and smiled to Itself before following the smell of blood into the main section of the Library.

(A few minutes earlier)

Xander looked up when he heard the library doors open, expecting it to be Willow. He was shocked to see it was Cordy.

"What do you want?"

Cordy looked over at him and sent a scowl his way before walking over to Giles who was at the counter.

"I need a book on 19th century Poets. You got any?"

"Yes. One moment."

Giles went off to find the books on that subject and Cordy took a seat at the table to wait.

Xander shrugged and went back to his homework when he heard a muffled curse coming from Cordy. Looking up he saw that her nose was bleeding. Handing her a tissue from the box Giles kept on the table, he heard a noise coming from behind him. Thinking it was Giles he turned but was instead met with Buffy in full game face and growling low. To his credit he didn't flinch even a little.

"Buffy? You okay?" He totally forgot that Cordy was there until she spoke up.

"What the hell is going on? I thought the rumour was that the Freak was dead."

As Buffy turned to go down the stairs she heard the voice of someone she had a score to settle with. Smiling to herself she made her way down and also found that Cordy was bleeding — though it was only a noise bleed but still, blood was blood.

She walked up behind Xander though she felt no need to kill him — he was family after all — though it would be interesting to see how he reacted to a soulless Buffy.

He turned and she was happy to see that he felt no fear at seeing her in game face.

"Buffy? You okay?"

She was going to answer when she was interrupted.

"What the hell is going on? I thought the rumour was that the Freak was dead."

Buffy snapped. She pushed Xander aside so he fell onto the table and was at Cordy's throat before she could even utter a scream at seeing Buffy's face, more importantly Buffy's fangs.

Buffy's fangs had just pierced skin and she had taken only a swallow when she felt a hand tugging her back.

She growled at the loss of food and turned to face the person who stopped her, ready to lash out when she stopped and looked into the shocked and betrayed eyes of Willow. She had been so hyped up on finally getting to feed on a live human other than her Mate that she hadn't even sensed her Mate coming near her.

Willow took one look into Buffy's amber eyes and knew that something was wrong. Taking her hand off of Buffy's arm, she raised it to her face and stroked the ridges, breathing a sigh of relief that Buffy allowed her to and that she still purred for her, though kept her face in its demonic form.

Willow was struggling with twp very dominant feelings. The first was worry over Buffy and the second was jealously. Buffy had had her fangs in Cordy's neck. As far as Buffy had told Willow, she had never fed off a live human, or dead one for that matter, apart from her — and that was during lovemaking — yet here she had just fed off Cordy.

"What are you doing?"

Buffy was torn. She really wanted to eat Cordy but she knew that by doing so it would upset her Mate so she tried to try and sway her over to her way of thinking.

"Will, what's the problem? She made you and Xander's lives hell practically your whole school life! Let me eat her, I swear that it'll hurt her."

Buffy truly expected Willow to let her have Cordy, giving the way she had bullied her most of the life. She wasn't prepared for Willow's reaction.

Willow looked into Buffy's eyes and prayed she was doing the right thing. She just hoped she was right and Buffy's Demon did love her in its own way.

She stepped back from touching Buffy altogether and Buffy's purring stopped right away and her eyes reflected her confusion.

"Xander? Where is Giles?"

"Ah he went to get Cordy a book why?"

Still looking at Buffy she answered.

"Go get him and take her with you."

Buffy opened her mouth to protest at loosing her meal but one look at Willow's face stopped her.

"Will? What's going on?" Buffy's Demon was worried. It had though that she accepted It along with the soul and the Slayer. If It turned out to be wrong... well It didn't know what It was gonna do but the prospects did not look good.

"We need to have a chat without them here."

Buffy accepted this though she kept throwing hungry glances in the direction that Cordy have left with Xander.

Willow sat and motioned the Vampire in front of her to do the same. Buffy sat beside Willow and frowned when Willow moved her chair a little away from her.

"Why are you so nervous? I can smell it. I can almost taste it."

"I'm nervous because I came into the library expecting to meet my girlfriend and ended up seeing that girlfriend with her fangs in another woman's neck!"

Buffy thought she had found the problem.

"So you're jealous it was a woman? Fine then I'll just eat men then, problem solved."

Willow had a look of horror on her face.

"You can't eat anyone and just last night you were happy with that! What happened between this morning and just now?"

Buffy debated on whether to tell her or not. She was scared that Willow would reject her without a soul and she was pissed off because she was scared. She was supposed to be a Vampire, they only feared the Slayer, and hello, she was one!

"After you left I took a nap. I woke up alone."

Seeing only confusion on Willow's face she knew she had to elaborate.

"When I woke up it was just me. The soul and the Slayerness that was in the soul were both gone. All that's left is me."

It sat back and waited for Willow's reaction, knowing that if she rejected the Demon, then there was nothing holding It back from going out and killing everyone It met alone the way to greet the sun.
