Chapter 3

[reviews]

"Giles!" Buffy screamed as she moved down the stairs carrying Willow's body. Everyone in the lobby stood up to see what was happening. "Get the bus started!" Giles didn't argue at all and ran out of the hotel.

"What's going on?" asked Xander as he ran up to meet Buffy at the base of the stairs. Buffy completely ignored him and went straight to the door. "What..." Dawn came running down the stairs no more than a second after her sister. "Dawnie..." he tried again, but she did the same as Buffy and made her way out the door. He turned towards the rest of the group who were equally confused.

"What the hell?" questioned Faith as she jogged towards the door just in time to see the bus speed off towards the hospital. "Where are they going?" No one knew.

"I'll let you off here and park around the back," Giles informed them as he pulled over at the entrance of the hospital. Buffy stood up and made her way to the door, still holding Willow. Dawn stood up behind her.

"No," she began. "Go back to the hotel and get Xander and Faith and bring them back here," she ordered before she stepped off the bus and they ran into the hospital. Giles did what he was told and made his way back to the hotel to get the others.

"We need help here," called Buffy as she made her way up to the front desk. The nurse turned her attention away from her computer to give Buffy her full attention.

"What seems to be the problem?" she asked before paging a doctor to come see check out the situation.

"I don't know," came Buffy's defeated answer. Before she could further explain the situation, a doctor came running up to the small group.

"What happened?" he asked as he began to look the redhead over. He didn't give Buffy a change to answer as he immediately called for a stretcher. Three orderlies came running over and before Buffy knew what was happening, Willow was being rushed down the hall towards the ICU.

"Buffy, what are they doing?" Dawn asked, as she watched helplessly as her best friend disappeared from her view. It took Buffy a second to snap out of her trace and look in her sister's direction.

"I'm not sure, Dawnie," she answered, feeling the same way her sister felt. They both moved over to the chairs and sat down. "So explain to me again what happened."

"The last thing I remember before going to sleep was hugging you and Will," began Dawn. "The next thing I know, I wake up from this horrible dream to find Will like that," she motioned to where her friend had gone.

"Wait, dream?" Buffy questioned. "You never said anything about a dream before." Dawn looked at her strangely. She repositioned herself in her chair.

"I didn't think it was a big deal," informed the teenager. "What is the big deal?"

"What was your dream about?"

"Um, I can't really remember that much of it anymore..." She thought really hard. "Oh, it was back in Sunnydale, battling The First!" Buffy started to think. "Will's spell didn't work and everyone was getting killed left and right. Willow was using all the magic she could, but she was getting too tired. One of the Uber-vamps was charging at her and you moved towards them. I thought you were going to save her, but instead you killed her."

"What?" gasped Buffy. "I killed her? Why would I do that? Why would you dream that?"

"I don't know, I can't help..." Dawn trailed off as something occurred to her. Buffy noticed the look on Dawn's face.

"What?"

"I remember now," she muttered. "I wasn't dreaming that." Buffy gave her a confused look so Dawn continued. "At first I was dreaming about school, nothing important, and then all of a sudden there was this flash and I was at the battle." Buffy still didn't understand the big. "It was like someone was forcing the scene into my head. I wasn't making it up. Someone else was."

"Who?" wondered Buffy. "And what does this have to do with what's happening to Willow?" Dawn motioned for her to shush while she tried to figure some things out.

"I'm not sure," began the brunette. "Do you remember when Willow went into your head? Do you remember how it felt?" Buffy shook her head. She couldn't really remember anything that had occurred in her their little meeting. She just remembered waking up in Xander's room and hugging Willow. "I think that's what happened. I think because she was so distraught over your letter, she didn't have total control over her powers and she kinda, dream walked, I guess."

"But she wasn't controlling the dream?" Buffy asked, wanting to make sure that Willow wasn't thinking about her killing her.

"I don't think so," assured Dawn. "I think it might be someone else. Evil probably. They figured that they couldn't get through you to get her in feel life so they had to do it on a different astral plane."

"I'm not even going to pretend I understood what you just said," commented Buffy, a little proud that her sister was smarter than her.

"Okay," began the teenager. "My guess is that someone got into my head and created this scene, kinda an alternate ending to what really happened." Buffy nodded her head to show that she understood so far. "I'm not sure, but I think Willow might have been lonely all by herself so she unconsciously came into my head, looking for some comfort." Buffy nodded. "Whoever was in my head, used this opportunity to attack her since she was the only real thing there. Like when she was in yours."

"So she was able to be hurt?" Buffy asked, trying to understand the last part.

"Exactly, because it was really her and not some made up character in the dream," explained Dawn. Buffy was starting to understand. "It seems that whatever physical pain she experiences in her mind has some impact on her body."

"But how come she didn't wake up when you did?" she questioned. "Why is she still trapped?" Dawn sighed.

"Cause someone wants her dead," Dawn answered in a flat tone. "My best guess? It's playing over and over in her head. And it'll continue until she either escapes or until she's dead."

"But you said that I killed her in your dream," Buffy pointed out. "If I killed her then how come she's still alive?" Dawn shrugged her shoulders.

"Maybe because it wants her to suffer," suggested Dawn. "I'm not sure, but I think I woke up just before you brought the blade across her throat so maybe you didn't kill her. Maybe it stopped it at the last second and did something else. I don't know." Dawn looked Buffy straight in the eyes. "All I do know is that the only person that can save Willow now, is Willow. And I'm not so sure she wants to be saved."
