Part eight

When they entered the class, Willow kept her eyes away from Buffy, which was hard considering she sat right in front of her desk

She just didn't want to give Xander anymore ammunition. She had begged him on the way to class to drop it, promising that she would talk to him after school about it.

Buffy frowned when Willow didn't acknowledge her at all. Both Xander and Cordy gave her their usual smiles and nods, but nothing from the redhead.

'maybe she was freaked out by what happened in the library'

Buffy sighed as she skimmed over the class, looking for late comers and absentees.

"Okay, anyone know where Faith is?"

No-one answer.

Buffy sighed again and sat back in her chair.

"Okay, is the silence because no-one knows where she is, or someone does but doesn't want to say?"

A hand rose from the back.

"I saw her out by the lunch hall, the doors near the quad.

Buffy stood up and lifted the books from her desk and set them on Xander's.

"Pass them back. Everyone gets a book. Start reading chapter one."

Turning, Buffy left the room.

Willow and Xander exchanged looks, before Xander started passing the books back like the blonde had asked.

-----

Buffy glared at the other girls there when she finally spotted Faith.

"Miss Evens, is there a reason that you are not in class?"

Faith turned and looked Buffy up and down before snorting and turning back to her conversation.

Buffy's eyebrows rose before she turned and looked pointedly at the others.

"Class. Go. Now."

They looked between Faith and the small teacher before shrugging and waving goodbye.

Faith glared and turned to face Buffy.

"What is your problem?"

Buffy's eyes hardened into a look the girl hadn't seen before.

"Faith, drop the attitude."

Faith snorted before turning and walking out the door closest to her.

Buffy frowned before following her into the quad.

"Faith!"

The brunette turned, a bored look on her face.

"What?"

Buffy came to stand in front of her, and plucked the cigarette Faith had just been about to light, from her mouth.

"One, no smoking. Two, get your ass back into that school and into my class right now."

Faith smirked stepped closer.

"Or what?"

Buffy frowned at the hostile vibes she could practically feel coming from the other girl.

"What is wrong?"

"I sick of dumbass teachers thinking their better than me." Faith all but growled as she went to light another cigarette.

Buffy again snatched it off her.

Buffy stared at the jittery girl in front of her before a thought came to her. She had heard the rumours after all.

"Is it drugs?"

Faith's eyes widened. Before they hardened.

The last thing Buffy expected, was to see a fist come at her. She didn't have time to move out of the way and it connected with her jaw.

"Dammit Faith!"

Buffy stepped back as the grinning brunette moved towards her.

"Faith stop."

She didn't, and Buffy soon found herself backed into a wall.

She wasn't scared, she knew that she could kick Faith's ass if need be, but the school board frowned on teacher's hitting students.

She was able to duck this time, and Faith's fist hit the wall, but her knee connected, hard.

Buffy cried out and gripped her side before bringing her arm up and twisting Faith's, putting her off balance and swapping their positions, only so Faith was facing the wall.

"Faith, calm down." Buffy felt like she was talking to a wild animal.

Faith snarled and kicked back, but Buffy had a good hold on her.

The teacher frowned when Faith started laughing.

"Go ahead, stay there. I'm sure the boss man will love to hear how you attacked me, outside the school no less."

Buffy's eyes widened and she loosened her grip a little in shock. Faith couldn't be saying what she thought she was.

"Faith?"

The brunette laughed again before whimpering.

"Sir... I tried to stop her... but she hurt me sir... she wouldn't stop... "

Buffy let go in shock.

"You need help Faith. No-one will believe that."

But even if they didn't believe Faith, the doubt would always be there.

Faith turned and grinned before whimpering again.

"I told her no... to stop... she didn't listen... sir, she touched me... made me do things..."

Buffy backed away, her face pale as Faith took off running.

"Oh god, I think I'm gonna be sick." Buffy turned and wretched, bring up a little bile.

The school board took those claims seriously, which they should do.

"Buffy?"

Buffy looked up when she saw Giles, tears in her eyes but not falling.

He wrapped an arm around her and lowered his voice.

"I saw and heard everything. Not to worry." The barely restrained fury was heard in his voice.

And just like that, Buffy knew everything would be okay. Faith wouldn't get away with it.

"We have to go and tell Principal Wood immediately."

Buffy nodded her head and let him lead her through the school to Wood's office, thanking her guardian Angel's for Giles being there.

-----

Willow looked at the clock. The class was over in five minutes and Buffy still wasn't back.

She was worried. Everyone knew of Faith's drug problem. She hoped Buffy was okay.

Xander nudged her when the door opened to reveal Buffy.

The blonde kept her face turned away so the class wouldn't see the swelling on her jaw.

"Class is over, take the books, read the next chapter."

Willow wanted to stay, see what had happened, but then she remember Xander and lowered her eyes as she left the room, never seeing Buffy's stare.

Xander held back, forgetting completely about teasing his best friend about her crush.

When the last student had left, he approached her desk.

"Buffy, are you okay?"

Buffy sighed and told him she was fine.

He paused, something in her voice not convincing him.

"Xander, really I'm fine, but you are about to be late for Math."

That clinched it. He nodded, though she couldn't see it, and left the room.

Buffy took a deep breath before letting it out slowly. Her jaw and side hurt from Faith's hits.

She was still shaking, and knew she should have took Wood up on his offer of going home right away for the rest of the day.

But she had wanted to get back to her class. When she had walked into the room, and Willow still wouldn't look at her, she felt drained, which was why she sent them on early.

Picking up her bag, she left the building and climbed into her SUV.

Only when she had started her car and pulled out of the schools parking lot, did she let the tears fall.

Taking out her cell, she called the only remaining blood family she had left.

"Hey Lorne, its me."

-----

Willow waited on Xander outside Math, knowing he had stayed behind and she was kicking herself because she hadn't.

"Well?"

Xander shrugged.

"She said she was fine."

Willow didn't look convinced, so he slung his arm around her shoulder.

"Will, she's fine. She probably just spent the entire period talking to Faith."

Willow smiled.

"You right, Buffy's like that."

She remembered why the blonde had wanted to become a teacher, to actually teach the students, as well as be there for them.

"Good, now that's sorted, we need to get to class."

Willow smiled and led the way in, vowing to herself that she would apologise to Buffy the next time she saw her for blanking her in class.
