Part eleven

Xander rushed into the waiting room and fell to his knees at Buffy's feet.

"What happened? Is she okay?"

Buffy looked up and met his eyes for a moment.

"Car accident. The doctors say she'll be fine. She's in Room 214. Her parents are with her, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind you going in."

He nodded his head and stood up as Giles took a seat by Buffy.

Buffy watched as he ran down the corridor to Willow's room.

"Are you okay?" Giles was looking at her, and Buffy could feel the tears start again.

-----

Xander gasped when he saw his best friend lying in the hospital bed, a bandage covering the top half of her head.

"Oh God."

Willow's parents turned and gave him a small smile.

"It looks worse that it is Xander. Why don't you come a sit with her? We'll leave you to it."

He nodded his head and looked at Willow's mom.

"You don't have to leave."

She smiled and reached out to stroke his hair.

"We're not leaving, we're just going to get some coffee. Look after our baby."

He nodded his head and took the seat Mrs Rosenberg had rose from, and took Willow's hand into his own.

Almost as if she knew he was there, her eyes opened again.

"Will." Xander leant forward and placed a small kiss on her cheek.

"God Willow, you had me worried."

Willow tried to give him a small smiled, but she winced.

"Is Cordy mad about her car?"

-----

Buffy looked up when she saw two feet appear in front of her.

Seeing Xander's angry face, she knew he must had found out what happened, which meant Willow was awake again.

"She wants to see you, don't ask me why."

He turned from her, knowing he was being unfair, but not being able to help it after seeing Willow looking so weak.

Buffy slowly stood and walked towards Willow's room, her head bowed.

-----

Willow looked up when Buffy came in, but didn't say anything.

Buffy looked at her, lying on the bed, and wished that things had gone different.

"Hi."

Willow didn't say anything, and Buffy looked down, wondering what to do next.

Seeing the seat, she took a step towards it, before looking up again.

"Is it okay if I sit down?"

Willow went to nod her head, but thought better of it.

"Yes."

Buffy sat, and wanted nothing more than to pick up Willow's hand.

"How are you feeling?"

"Like I've been hit by a truck, you?"

Buffy flinched and looked away, not seeing Willow's eyes soften.

"Thank you."

Startled, Buffy turned her head.

"Huh?"

Willow gave that half smile Buffy loved to see.

"The way I hear it, you saved my life."

Buffy snorted and looked down again.

"This is all my fault. If I'd of handled things better, you wouldn't be lying here."

Willow reached over and took Buffy's hand, smiling when the blond let her and returned her hold.

"My mom told me what happened, but I fell asleep again. Xander told me you were still here."

Buffy nodded her head, though there was no need to.

"I wanted to make sure you'd be okay."

Willow smiled and tightened her grip on Buffy's hand for a moment.

"I'm sorry about before." Buffy jumped right in. She had practised what she wanted to say in the waiting room.

"I reacted badly. I don't want you to think that I didn't want it, or like it... the kiss I mean... but-"

"Buffy," Willow cut her off when it looked like she was starting to babble. "You aren't the only one who reacted badly."

Buffy half smiled.

"So, you wanted it?"

Buffy looked up and met Willow's gaze, knowing she owed it to the girl to be honest.

"For a while now, but its-"

"Complicated. I know."

Buffy snorted.

"Understatement."

Neither spoke for a moment or two.

"So, what happens now?" Willow asked quietly.

Buffy looked up and met her eyes.

"We can't... it doesn't matter what we feel... us being together right now... its wrong... I'm your teacher... plus your only seventeen."

Willow nodded her head, she knew all that.

Stroking the hand she held in her own, Willow watched as Buffy's eyes seemed drawn to her lips.

Half smiling, she tugged a little on the blonde's hand.

"This can't ever happen..."

Willow nodded, knowing Buffy was right.

Buffy's head moved closer, her eyes flickering from Willow's eyes to her mouth.

After a long moment, their lips met again.

Buffy kept the kiss light, not wanting to jostle Willow about.

At some point, she felt tears in her eyes, knowing this was the last time they could do this.

Stroking her tongue over Willow's lips, Buffy begged for entry.

When Willow opened up, she swept in and soon the two were lost in the kiss.

Lifting a hand, Willow cupped Buffy's cheek and felt wetness there.

Kissing the blonde harder, they finally drew apart.

Each knew it couldn't happen again.

Buffy placed a soft kiss on Willow's cheek and stood up.

"I should go. I'll send Xander back in."

After taking on last look at the girl in the bed, Buffy turned to leave.

"Buffy."

Turning, she met Willow's eyes, seeing her own feelings reflected back at her.

"I know Willow. I'll see you in school."

Turning, she left the room.

Willow's eyes closed and she sighed.

When she opened them again, Xander was there.
