Waking up

by Lost

Dawning Realizations

[reviews]

It had been difficult, no, scratch that, impossible for Willow to go back to sleep after her brief encounter with Buffy earlier that morning, and so, there she sat on the couch, waiting. 'I have to tell her.' The thought reverbrated through her head as she listened to her best friend, the love of her life, upstairs giggling as she fooled around with her boyfriend. Willow sighed as she sat there, unable to do anything other than listen to the joyful noises, and tortue herself with thoughts of how she wasn't the one up there causing them. She gripped her hands tightly together, and did her best to hold back tears. She wanted nothing more at that moment in time than to cry. The thought of her best friend, kissing, hugging, laughing, and loving the boy upstairs did more to hurt her heart than anything she had ever known.

Buffy and Angel were upstairs, playfully seeing who could mark who with hickey's, both of them having forgotten all about the doughnuts and the redhead down stairs. Well, not completely having forgotten, Buffy still remembered her, knew her name, scent, and love for the redhead, although she had forgotten that the redhead was present down stairs. However, she had not forgotten her vow to talk with her best friend about what was going on in that head of hers. They continued playing, neither hearing the door as it quietly clicked shut down stairs.

She had had just about as much as she could take, and so, Willow looked around the kitchen for a writing pad. It would seem rude if she were to just leave, that and Buffy could interpret it wrong, and think that the redhead was upset with her. But the fact of the matter was that she wasn't upset with the blonde, she simply no longer knew how to react around the blonde every since her world had seemed to collapse in on itself. She found a pad, and a pen, and began to write a short note to Buffy.

She contemplated for a few minutes how to begin the note, "Dear Buffy" seemed too formal, not something best friends would write to one another, yet "Dearest Buffy" seemed more like a love note than a note of departure, and so, she started it thus:

Buffy-

Im gonna go home, call me if you want to hang out or something-

 Willow

Satisfied that the note wasn't something that could be taken in the wrong light, she left it there on top of the doughnuts box before she peaked in. 'Ohhh, sprinkles.' She thought as she grabbed the sprinkled one. Neither Buffy nor Angel liked sprinkles, so it was safe to assume that that doughnut had been bought with her in mind. She sniffled as she walked out the door, holding the doughnut in her hand, and began her short treck home.

Four Hours Later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Willow sat at her computer, writing some truely love felt poety. She read, then re-read the poem before deciding that she wanted it to be called "I wanna be your Reason". After having titled the poem, she shut her laptop, and started downstairs, deciding the best thing to do would be to veg out in front of a movie, well, not really veg out since she wanted to eat ice cream, but still.

She put in "If these walls could talk2" and settled with her carton of ice cream. She was just at the part where they had entered the bar, when there was a knock at her door. She stood up, and went to open it, only to find Buffy and Angel waiting outside.

"Hey." She said, mustering up the cheeriest smile she could, although it never really reached her eyes. She opened the door more and stood back so they could enter before resuming her seat on the couch, letting her eyes get glued to the screen once again, momentarily forgetting her problems.

Buffy watched her best friend as she watched some movie Buffy had never heard of. Willow was uncharacteristically quiet, and Buffy couldnt think of anything to say to get her to talk. So she settled in, pulling Angel to sit down in between the two girls, to watch the movie.

It didn't take long for Buffy to realize they were watching a movie about lesbians, but once she did, a dark red blush crept up her cheeks. Once the movie ended she looked at Willow and decided the best thing she could do to lighten the mood the redhead seemed to be radiating was some jokes. "So Will, anything you wanna tell us?" She smirked. She had known the other girl was gay, hell, she had set off Buffy's gaydar so quickly it was almost scary, but Buffy kept it to herself.

Willow looked at Buffy with a puzzled expression on her face. "No, why?" She asked as she stood up to go and put the carton of ice cream up. Buffy realized quickly that she wasn't gonna take the bait, and sat for a minute.

"Hey Willow, I need to talk to you about something." Buffy said as she entered the kitchen. Willow glanced at her. Then at Angel who was still seated on the couch.

"Okay, shoot." Willow said, sure that her best friend wouldn't confront her in front of the boy she was more than slightly, hell more than overly jealous of.

"Well, now's not really the time...how about later?"

"Yeah, I guess."

Angel's cell phone rang, and he answered and began speaking to the voice on the other line as the two girls stared at eachother. He hung up and walked into the kitchen and leaned over, giving Buffy a kiss and successfully breaking the eye contact the girls had going.

"Mhhh, no work tonight. That was my boss, said they don't need me to come in today it's been so slow." He said as he pulled his lips away from his girlfriend's.

"Cool. Maybe we could go out?" She asked, looking at both Willow and Angel.

"Sure, wherever you want to go." He said as he kissed her again.

"Good, well...we'll pick you up at around eight Will?" Buffy asked, and Willow nearly cried. As if it wasn't enough to watch them being openly affectionate, Buffy wanted her to go out with the couple? To be the third wheel yet again?

"Uhm, I think I'm gonna pass, I have some uhm...homework to do." She said, as she slowly ushered the couple back out of her front door.

"Wait just a second." Buffy said to Angel as they started to walk away from the house. The front door had shut, and just as it had, Willow had leaned against it, emotionally exhausted, she was too tired to hold her tears in any longer as she let them flow freely and pulled her knees up to her chest as she sat there.

Buffy reached for the handle of the door and pushed slightly, but the door only moved a little bit, and, sticking her head close to the crack in the door, she heard Willow sob. She pulled back and scrunched her face in concern, but decided to let her best bud cry it out, and made sure to remind herself she would have to talk with the redhead later that evening, and she grabbed ahold of her boyfriends hand as they strolled down the street, a small smile planted itself on Buffy's lips. Nearly everything in her world seemed perfect.
