Waking up

by Lost

Inside her Head

[reviews]

Eight o'clock came and went for Willow. She simply lay there on her bed, staring at the cieling above her. Her cieling fan circled slowly, circulating air in the room as it cast shadows during its rotation. The shapes barely even registered on the hacker's brain, and the light barely had her pupils changing sizes. There was nothing she could do. She had silently resigned herself to that fate. Well, there were things she could do, but they all for some reason seemed overly drastic. It was obvious, at least to her that she could no longer be around the blonde. It was too hard for the redhead. She couldn't quit suddenly being friends with her though. That would surely get a few raised eyebrows since Buffy was pretty much her only friend. Well besides Xander of course. She rolled over onto her side. "What am I going to do?" She asked herself out loud, hoping that hearing the question outside her brain might help her to solve it.

In the background, a song began to slowly play from her stereo.

"Its like youre a drug
Its like youre a demon I cant face down
Its like Im stuck
Its like Im running from you all the time"

She let the lyrics roll over her, listening to the soothing voice of the girl singing, and before she knew what was happening the tears had begun to flow. A slow chill ran down her body as she curled in on herself, almost as if it was her body's natural reaction to protect itself from physical harm, even though the only harm it seemed to be coming into was mental.

She cried for quite a while, so long that the radio station had begun to play only dance hits as is so common in stations in the later evening and earlier mornings. She cried for the fact that her best friend would never see her that way, and for the fact that, no matter how much she wanted it, Willow knew that if she told Buffy, their friendship would change, and probably not for the best.

Buffy and Angel had gone to see a movie, and not just any movie, but a movie with substance, plot...a midnight movie. A Clockwork Orange had been playing. Too bad neither of them had actually watched the movie. The cheapest movie to go to was the midnight movie, only six dollars a person, and since its not like they were actually going to watch the movie, why pay more? So they went to the midnight movie, and proceeded to make out the whole movie. Exiting the theatre, Angel began to walk Buffy towards her house, when she suddenly changed the directions. He looked at her questioningly.

"I need to go and talk to Will." She told him as she glanced at her wrist watch.

"Yeah, what's been up with her lately? She's been all...avoidy." He said, sounding proud of himself for realizing something was wrong with their redheaded friend.

Buffy looked at him for a minute. Sometimes he could be so dense it wasnt even funny. "Uhm, I dunno, that's what I was gonna go and talk to her about." She said, and looked up to realize they were about two houses away from Willow's.

"Okay, well, good luck. Do you want me to come too?" He asked, not wanting to part ways with the blonde for the night.

"Uhm, no, thanks, I think I wanna handle this one on my own." She said as she pulled her hand apart from his and kissed him goodbye.

"I'll call you whenever we get up, okay?" She asked the boy, knowing that if she didn't he'd be back over at six in the morning again, only this time it wasn't her house, they'd be fooling around at Willow's, and that wasn't something she felt like doing. "Alright, goodnight." She told him as she turned her back towards him and walked over to the french doors of the other girl's bedroom. She looked back to see that Angel had continued his walk towards his house, and she tried the french doors, relieved when she found them to be unlocked. She crept into the room, which was dark except for a small lamp on the redheads desk. Her laptop was on the bed next to her, and sounded like it was still on, but the screen was black. Buffy shrugged and moved it to the desk before she sat down on the bed next to her best friend.

For the first time since she had entered the room, Buffy looked at Willow. Really looked at her. She was a beautiful girl, one that no doubt would break a few hearts in the future; she looked so peaceful while she slept that Buffy couldnt resist tucking a piece of stray hair behind her ears. "Oh Buffy." She heard the redhead practically sob, and it was then that she noticed the tear tracks that had dried up and staind the other girls face. "No, no, Im sorry!" Willow yelled before she jerked awake. Her eyes took in the scene before her, but not Buffy since the blonde was sitting behind her. Then she started to cry.

She suddenly stop when she felt Buffy place a comforting hand on her shoulder. She turned to face the blonde. "What are you doing here? Am I dreaming?" She asked what she suspected to be a dream. Buffy would never blow off a night with Angel to come and hang out with her, she knew that.

Buffy smiled at her friend's bewilderment, and then leaned down to hug her. "No, youre not dreaming. I just wanted to come and see what was wrong." Buffy said by way of explanation.

"Oh." Was all that Willow got out. Then she stared a the bedsheet, after she had broken the hug.

"C'mon Will, you can tell me, whats up?" Buffy asked as she reached out to touch the redhead, who only flinched just a little bit when the contact came. Willow thought for a minute, and then, deciding that it was the only way she would ever feel it, Willow leaned in and captured the blonde's lips.

A/N: Okay, what do you think? She's goin for it. Should the story continue, or end here? - L.
