Band Camp

[reviews]

Willow smiled happily and nodded her head along as she listened to the song being played around her. She'd been playing keyboards for the last three years in a local band, and they were finally starting to get somewhere. Sure it was a whole new experience, but it would only better all of them as musicians in the end. Band Camp. It seemed trite at first, but with enough convincing, Oz, her boyfriend, had convinced the whole band that they would benefit from the musical summer camp. The two of them, along with Amy and Jonathon were ready to rock. Well, as much as they could at band camp. Amy was the lead singer, and she tended to leave nothing to the imagination in her lyrics as well as her clothing choices when it came right down to it. Jonathon had been kind of shy and quiet when they were all younger, but they had managed to convince him to pick up the drums, and so there they were, all of them, ready to learn. The only thing missing? A bass player.

Buffy sighed as she lugged her case towards the room she would be sharing with two other girls. Band camp. What had her parents been thinking? 'Probably about how much fun they could have if I wasn't around for the summer.' She thought glumly as a pout unknowingly attatched itself to her lips. She hoisted her bag up and got a better grip on her case as she walked up the whole three steps to the front door of her home for the next two months. She set down her case, and reached for the screen door, only to have it pushed towards her hand just a second short of grabbing the handle, and nearly knock her off her feet.

"Woah!" She said as she hopped out of the door's way. "Someone could get killed with that thing." She muttered to herself as she reached up and grabbed her luggage from the front porch. She looked up, a glare glued to her pretty features, only to take in the face of her assailant.

Brown eyes and nearly mousy brown hair met her as she glared at who she assumed would be one of her new roomie's. "Hi, I'm Amy." The girl said peppily as she stuck her hand out, blatently ignoring the fact that Buffy's hands were full.

"Buffy." She replied curtly, giving only a nod of her head as a greeting.

"Oh, let me help you with you-" Amy began, as she reached for Buffy's things.

"I got it." The blonde interrupted, and pushing her way past the brunette, made her way into the room. Two beds were already made, the only one left open was the furthest from the door, and Buffy really hoped that the brunette wasn't in the bed next to her. She hadn't come to be social, she was here for one reason and one reason only.

She set her luggaged down, and opened her bag to pull out sheets and a blanket that had been rolled up in a sleeping bag type arragement by the maid. She slowly began assembling her bed as she listened to Amy leave the room, heading down the path towards where she couldn't guess. When the screen door creaked back open, expecting to see Amy back again. Instead what she saw was a breath takingly stunning image of a redhead with green eyes. And a smile that lit up the room.

"Hi, I'm Willow." The girl said, extending her hand to the blonde. Buffy's hands were full again, but she was more than willing to drop what she was doing to shake the beautiful red head's hand.

"Buffy." She said, this time smiling warmly, and even holding onto the redhead's hand for a little bit longer than was probably necessary. The redhead met her eyes and for a second there Buffy could have sworn she saw something flicker in those beautiful green eyes, but, blinking her own, Buffy quickly convinced herself that she had been imagining it.

"So..." Willow began awkwardly. "What do you play?"

"Oh, well, you see....I'm trying to learn to play bass guitar, but really they only teach standing up bass here, but uhm, well, my parents paid more and now i get to play electric bass." Buffy said, blushing slightly at the fact that she seemed to be so spoiled.

"Oh wow, that's awesome. How long have you been playing?" Willow asked, a light dancing in her eyes as she eyed the prospective new band member.

"A couple of years, I'm really only here to learn to read sheet music...well, that and to get out of my parents hair for the summer." Buffy looked down as she said the last part, avoiding the redhead's steady gaze.

"Oh, well, that's cool." Willow said brightly, attempting to ignore the blonde's long face. "I play piano, uhm...well, keyboards really." Willow said shyly.

'What are you doing Rosenburg??' Willow asked herself as she took in the blonde before her. There was no question about it, Buffy was hot, and not just the kind of hot that caught your eye, but the kind that kept your attention, even over time. Buffy was shorter than her, but not by much, and she smiled softly, shrugging off her thoughts. 'You like Oz remember? Daniel? Your boyfriend???' Her mind asked.

"Well, we better get going...Orientation starts soon." Buffy said as she stood up off of her unmaid bed and pushed her bag under the bed, before setting her bass case next to her bed.

"Uhm, yeah, they said it starts at..." Willow looked down at her right wrist before her eyes widened in surprise. "Uhm, five minutes ago. Come on, lets go, I'll show you the way." She said, grabbing ahold of the blonde's hand as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Buffy smiled slightly as she squeezed the redhead's hand as she was lead down the path towards the mess hall.
