The Simple Black Dress

chapter 14

[reviews]

Buffy saw Morgan lead Willow over to a small bench and sit her down. She turned back to Amy/Daphne. "And there you are still scared and unhappy."

Amy/Daphne reached up and touched her slashed face with her fingertips. "Yes. That's true." she said sadly. Then she cheered up glancing over to Willow. "But not for long. Not for long at all. The accident that cut me was just bad luck. Bad luck for me. Bad luck for Willow. And, dear, bad luck for Buffy Summers."

"And the dresses. You have one on just like the one Willow is wearing."

"Not exactly 'just like'. My is the receiver. The one Willow is wearing is the......giver let's say. They are both made from the cloth of Sister Mangela's nun habit. Before she was assassinated she had a premonition that she was to be killed. The Church was very angry at what they deemed was her treachery. Her turning away from God to embrace the dark side. They sent someone of course but she empowered the cloth she wore. It became the vehicle of her escape. She embraced the daughter of a local farmer and the poor, naive child supplied the body for which the Sister transfer ed her soul into. When the assassin arrived he thought the Sister was asleep but the body was an empty shell. He plunged his knife into an empty vessel."

"So she didn't die then?"

Amy/Daphne tipped her head, a wicked smile across her face. She swung her head toward Morgan. "No she didn't die. She has always managed to keep one step ahead of death. She has always been able to find another vessel to embrace."

"It gets easier each time." Morgan said.

"Willow," Buffy cried frantically. "I LOVE YOU! I love you"

"She can't hear you. She's almost gone by now." Morgan stepped over to Amy/Daphne and caressed the girl's hair. "Are you ready?"

"Willow was difficult. For a time. She was having those visions of the past. We were afraid that she would see too much.........from then. That she would alert you. Now it doesn't matter because you can't stop us now."

Buffy worked her hands at her bonds. She could feel them loosening. Or was it just a hopeful illusion?

Morgan and Amy/Daphne were moving toward where Willow sat.

"And me? Are you going to kill me too?" Buffy called after them.

Morgan came back. "You and Amy are going to be involved in a car wreck. Your tragic deaths will be mourned by all. Joyce will be very sad and I will be of great comfort to her. Willow will return home but, alas, she'll become estranged with her parents. I will take her in of course. Let her live with me and I will treat her as a mother would treat a daughter. Everyone will be very happy."

Buffy again called to Willow. "I LOVE YOU, babe. I love you so much."

Morgan slapped Buffy. "SHUT UP! She's ours!!!"

The blow brought tears to Buffy's eyes. But when she was hit it sent a quiver through her body that loosened her bonds even more.

"Come mother. Let's get this behind us."

Morgan retreated to where Amy/ Daphne was now sitting beside Willow. Morgan took the hems of each girl's dress and pinned them together. Then Amy/ Daphne took Willow's hand in hers and interlocked their fingers.

Morgan went over to the book and opened it. From a little compartment in the back of the book she took out a piece of thin twine. Returning to where the girls sat she slowly wove the twine around their wrists and tied then together.

All the time Buffy was working at freeing herself but as close as she felt she was she couldn't seem to unloosen the ropes further.

Morgan went back for the book, picked it up and began to read.
