Chapter 10

"So how did the date go?" Tara asked.

"It was great, she was just so nice and she won me a stuffed Scooby Doo and she spent the night."

"Willow!"

"There was no sex, but we did make out and jeez Tare you should have told me girls kiss better than boys. What have I been doing?"

"Remember I tried, there was that once, but then your mom came in the room."

"Oh yeah what were we 13?"

"Yep. So she spent the night?"

"There was cuddling, some smooches and talking. That's all Tare. Also, I need to thank you guys for coming up. It means a lot."

"You're welcome. Now I've got to go. I have a study group. Hey maybe we can come up for Halloween. You guys still doing the Scooby thing?"

"Yeah. You should it'll be loads of fun."

"K I'll see you next weekend then."

"Bye Tare."

They disconnected and Willow went back to studying. An hour later she heard Xander calling her name from the hallway. She opened the door and ushered the man in.

"So Willster. You need to get ready."

"Uh, why?"

"Barbeque at the Buffsters. I'm commandeering you to go with me and pick up the necessary supplies and round up the rest of the troops. So gather your junk and lets be goin'"

Willow did as she was told and locked up her dorm.

"Mom, where are you?"

"In here Buffy." Joyce called out from the back.

Buffy walked through the gallery and saw her mom and sister looking over an inventory list.

"Hey Buffy." Dawn said over her shoulder.

"Hi sweetie," Joyce came over and gave her eldest a hug. "It won't take long a few hours tops to do the inventory and then I was thinking dinner on me."

"Ah, well, I have Xander gathering supplies for a cook out. I hope that's ok?"

"That's fine dear. It'll be good to see everyone. Since you guys started school I never see you."

"I know I'm sorry."

Joyce stepped back and looked her daughter over. "You look different. Did you do something with your hair?"

"Nope. I went on a date."

"Oh, must have been some date if I can tell the difference. And who was the lucky girl?"

"Willow."

Dawn's head spun around, "No way!"

"Yep. It was fantastic."

"You finally asked her out? Tell me tell me tell me."

"Calm down squirt and no I didn't ask her out, she asked me. I agreed."

Dawn ran to her sister and gave her a hug. "What? Okay I'm so out of the loop. So you guys talked after you went all loner on everyone? The nunnery is closed?"

"Yes."

Buffy recounted the date in excruciating detail while the three worked on inventorying the new shipment's received. Two hours later they were done and tired.

"Okay I'm ready to go home, anyone else?" Joyce asked.

"Uh yeah, I want to see Xander and Buff, Will should be there."

Buffy stuck her tongue out at her sister and said, "Guys," making a point to eyeball her sister, "It would be oh so cool of everyone if they didin't really make a deal. I'm not sure how comfortable she is with all of this. Remember first date last night. It's all really new Buffy and Willow wise, so behave."

The two other girls smiled and nodded. Joyce shut the gallery down and the three Summers women made their way home.

"Angel go see Cordy and let me handle the rest of the kitchen." Willow said bumping Angel with her hip.

"I need to do something. Xander's cooking and there is nothing else to do." Angel pouted and leaned against the counter.

"Oh, I didn't thank you for the talk the other day and for uh finding Buffy."

"You're welcome Willow."

"If you really want to help out, can you grab me a colander for the macaroni?"

Angel complied and handed the redhead the requested item.

"Mom, that's just...just...ewe." Buffy said coming in the front door.

"Well sweetheart if you didn't want to know...." Joyce let the statement die out.

Angel heard the three girls coming this way and decided to head out back to see what else was going on. The three girls entered the kitchen and splitting up, made their rounds around the house to greet everyone. Buffy's first stop was Willow. She wasn't sure how comfortable the redhead was with PDA's so she refrained from kissing her and went in to give her a hug. To her surprise, Willow took Buffy's chin and gave her a soft kiss and hello.

"Hey back."

"How was the rest of your day?"

"Full of boxes. You?"

"Uhm, running around with a crazed man."

"Crazed?"

"Well Xander seemed insistent on getting everyone involved today and he also made like 5 trips to the grocery store. I was opting for kosher hot dogs and baked beans. He went for shishkibobs....what kind of name is that? Why would you name a food that? It's like naming a drink typhoid fever...," Willow's babble trailed off as she saw the smirk grow on Buffy's lips. "Why don't you stop me when I do that?"

Buffy just smiled and shrugged, "I think it's cute. You're face get's all scrunchy and I can see the infamous Rosenberg gear's grinding away. Very, very cute and kinda sexy."

"Huh," Willow grumbled out and turned back to the macaroni salad.

Before leaving Buffy gave Willow's butt a pat and then ran for the back door. Outside, Xander and Dawn were by the grill talking, Giles was talking to Angel and her mom and Cordy were sitting in the lounge chairs. She went over and gave Xander a hug.

"So, you've been running around crazed?"

"Buffster, hello the lady of buffonia so glad you could join us today and who told you that?"

"Wills, something about denying my girlfriend baked beans and hot dogs in favor of shishkibobs? Wills is right though it's a horrible name."

"Uh?" the couple said at the same time.

"Willow babble."

Both nodded and smiled.

"Buffy?" Giles called out.

"What's up?"

"Angel was telling me that Kate and Faith went to London, why didn't you tell me?"

"Uh, I'm a bad bad daughter?"

Giles rolled his eyes and scoffed at his oldest step child. "Buffy do be a little more serious. I would have liked to know. There are a couple of book shops that I could have had them go to."

"Giles, join the 21st century."

"What?"

"Say it with me...Telephone."

"Oh, yes that wouldn't be a bad idea."

"Giles, Giles, Giles when will you start to use that big head of yours?"

"Angel, please do something with her."

"I'm sorry Ruppert. I can get you some ear plugs."

Buffy hit Angel in the arm and walked off.

"I told you Rupes, works every time."

"I'll have to remember that for later."

The two continued their conversation while Buffy went over to her mom and Cordy.

"Buffy, your mom was just telling me that you and a certain redhead went out last night...like on a date."

"Yes, there was definite dateage."

"And you've been holding out on me why?"

"None of your business comes to mind."

"Of course it's my business. Everything is my business. College is doing nothing for you." Cordelia scoffed and resumed the conversation she was having with Joyce.

As Buffy turned around, Willow was teetering down the back steps with a tray loaded with chips, dips and the usual barbeque essentials. Buffy rushed over and grabbed the tray before everything went tumbling to the ground. Willow let out a small smile and nodded her thanks. Setting the stuff on the picnic table the two sat down. Willow rested her head on Buffy's shoulder and yawned.

"You sleepy?"

"Yeah didn't get much sleep last night. My date wouldn't quit talking."

"Well, if you weren't so easy to talk to I may have shut up long enough to get some sleep."

Willow poked her in the ribs and was rewarded with a squeak from Buffy.

"Buff you've been keeping another secret from me."

"Ah no Wills, why would you say that?"

To emphasize her point, Willow poked Buffy again. "You're ticklish. This is going to be so much fun." With out alerting the blonde, Willow whipped around and began tickling her new girlfriend. Buffy pleaded for mercy, but the redhead forged ahead until they both fell off the bench. Willow landed first with Buffy landing half on top of her. Letting out an oomph, they struggled to get back on their feet.

"Wills, Buff, are you two done? Foods ready." Xander asked.

Both were a shade of light red and nodded. The group sat down and dug in. The rest of the evening went well. Everyone started telling stories and tried playing charades, but that was given up in favor of Trivial Pursuit that Giles and Willow tied for.

************************************************************

Monday rolled around and found Buffy and Willow in Psych class. It was just letting out and as the two were exiting they were stopped by the TA, Riley Finn.

"Hi Buffy," Riley began ignoring the redhead and the entwined digits.

"Hi Riley."

"Uhm Buffy, I was wondering if ah maybe we could go on a picnic, have a little cheese, some apples, maybe some ants."

"What?"

The tall man blushed and shuffled his feet hoping the shy act would play to his favor, "Uhm picnic? You, me, some food?"

"Oh, uh, jeez Ri that's sweet, but no thanks, I'm involved." Buffy said holding up her and the redhead's intertwined fingers. "You know Willow, my girlfriend. I thought you kinda knew. You helped out the gay alliance group at the meeting last Wednesday. We joked as you hung the banner."

"I see, sorry Buffy, Willow." The man turned heel and nearly ran out the door.

"Such a heart breaker Buff."

"Nope, not me. What would make Teutonic Man think I was interested in him anyhow?"

"Must be your smile. Have I told you, you have a terrific smile?"

"Nope, but flattery is always welcome. More please?"

"One a day. I don't need you getting a bigger head than you already have."

Buffy continued to swing their arms and led the girl back to the dorms to meet up with Xander. Walking in to the room, Buffy noticed Xander wasn't back from his class and decided to get some snuggle time in with the redhead. She pulled her girl to the bed and laid down.

An hour later Xander came in and saw the two napping. He shook them awake and was rewarded with a smile.

"Heya Buff."

"How was class?"

"I'm not sure. I'm gonna need Deep Thought to get me through this section."

"What?" Willow asked rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"Help of the academic variety when you have time Wills."

"K Xand. I'm hungry. What's for dinner?" Willow sat up rubbing her stomach.

"How about the caf?" Buffy offered.

"They do have good mac and cheese."

Willow nodded enthusiastically, "What can I say I'm a sucker for the mac and cheese?"

************************************************************

The gang was seated around a table at the bronze with Xander recounting a very embellished version of the weeks happening. Truth be told the week was kinda dull. The only thing of notable interest was the way the TA had continued to stare at Buffy during class. The blonde just let it go chalking it up to creepiness and not very wig worthy. Buffy and Willow were out on the dance floor and things that night seemed to calm down. Because of the Halloween dance tomorrow, Dawn was able to spend the night at the dorms and Buffy stayed with Willow.
