Chapter 1...
***************************************************************************
Three Months Later...

Willow, Dawn, Faith, Xander and Giles watched Buffy pace up and down. They were all sitting in the airport, waiting for Dawn's flight to England.

"Are you sure you packed everything? Toothbrush, jammies, underwear?" Buffy asked yet again as she stopped pacing.

"For the twentieth time, YES," said an aggitated Dawn.

"OK, good," she started pacing again while she asked, "you sure you don't want to take another gap year?"

"Yeah, Dawn, you could go on another one of your road trips," Faith smirked as Dawn looked at her with wide, 'dont-you-dare-say-that-again' eyes.

"Road trips? What road trips?" Buffy asked as she stopped pacing again.

"Hey, Buff, maybe you should sit down," Willow said, getting up and sitting Buffy down before mimicing the pacing Buffy was doing a few seconds before, "it's my turn to panic!"

She stopped after a few paces then knelt down on the floor infront of Dawn and took both her hands.

"You sure you want to go to Oxford? I mean there's plenty of other nice, local, near by, not so far away colleges."

Xander raised an eyebrow and slightly chuckled at his best friend.

"They all mean the same thing, Will!" He said, referring to Willow's choice of words.

"I knew that," Willow lied, "just, ya know, emphasising."

"Riiiiiight," Buffy drawled out, with a cheeky grin.

"Sorry, Will, but all the emphasis in the world couldn't stop me from going to Oxford," she said squeezing the witch's hands lightly.

"Too right," Giles said as Willow smiled and stood up, "Oxford is one of the finest universities in the world!" He smiled at Dawn, "we're all very proud of you."

She smiled back.

"Thanks, Giles."

Just then the loudspeaker announced Dawn's flight number. She got up and looked over at the group, starting to tear up slightly.

"God, I'm gonna miss you guys so much!"

Buffy got up and hugged her sister for all she was worth.

"We're gonna miss you, too, Dawnie," she said through sobs, "you better keep in touch with your big sis!"

Tears started running down Dawn's cheeks as she managed to croak out, "I will, I promise."

Buffy let go after a few moments so Dawn could say goodbye to the rest of the scoobies, leaving Willow until last, giving her the longest hug and the longest goodbye. She smiled at how well her two most favourite people got on so well.

When Dawn had finished her goodbyes, she grabbed both her suitcases.

"Be careful," Buffy warned.

"I will, you, too, I'll call you when I get there," she promised.

"OK," she gave Dawn one last hug before she boarded the plane, "I love you."

"I love you, too," Dawn said as she kissed her sister on the cheek before heading to the gate.

Buffy's silent tears started to fall as Dawn disappeared through the gate, but were cut short when she felt a little hand gently rubbing her back. She wrapped an arm around Willow's shoulders, squeezed gently and kissed her cheek.

"She'll be OK," Willow said still rubbing the blonde's back in comfort, "she's a big girl now, she can look after herself."

"I hope so," Buffy smiled across at the witch, "let's go home."

The drive home was particularly quiet, especially on Buffy and Willow's part.

They just sat in the back, holding each others hand, Willow's head resting on Buffy's shoulder.

This didn't go unnoticed by Faith who was starting to feel jealous.

That's what she wanted.

She wanted a friend who cared for her that much.

She wanted someone who she could hold hands with when she needed comfort.

She wanted someone who understood her and accepted her for who she was.

But, above all...

She wanted Red.
