Chapter 1

It was eight a.m. when Buffy reached school, she was still over a half an hour early, like usual, so she went past school to join her friends at their get-together spot. She furrowed her brow when she saw it was taken by some year-younger kids; amongst them were Xander and his best friend.

*Willow?* Buffy thought but shrugged and saw her two friends Cordelia and Harmony around the corner. She kissed both girls on the cheek as she joined them and sat down as she grabbed her bag and took out her cigarettes.

"You really should stop smoking; the teachers can smell you a mile away. Actually, EVERYONE can smell you a mile away." Cordy pulled up her nose but shot the blonde a grin to show she was joking, a little.

"Yeah, but what else can I do so people will remember me?" The blonde winked and took a draw from her cigarette and blew tiny circles in the air. Harmony rolled her eyes and casually took a look at their usual spot.

"Can you believe they actually took our spot?" she questioned with a shocked expression. "Don't they know who we are?" The blonde was obviously irritated by the year-younger kids. Buffy took a glance at the corner but shrugged.

"They know who I am, but they don't know who you are." Buffy smirked. "I'm the big dyke that scares the shit out of everyone." She stated amused.

"You find that funny? Go and tell them to move." Harmony pushed. Buffy took another drag from her cigarette and looked suspiciously at her friend. She blew out the smoke and kept eying Harmony, waiting for the other blonde to say she was joking.

"Is the word 'DOG' written somewhere on my face or something?" Buffy replied cocking her eyebrow when she didn't reply. Harmony crossed her arms and looked at her in a daring way. Buffy laughed but stood up.

"Please, don't shoot me." The blonde commented slightly sarcastic and walked to the other side.

*Dumbass Harmony, can't even tell some kids to shove it.* she thought angrily *It's eight a.m. for fuck sake, why can't they just leave me alone?* she rounded the corner and smiled at Xander who immediately came over to greet her.

"Hey, Buff." He said with a smile. Buffy liked Xander; he was a nice guy, though from time to time a hormonal jerk. But hey, this was a fifteen year old boy, aren't they all hormonal jerks at that age?

"Hey Xan, look, can I ask you something?" she asked the younger boy who nodded in response. She glanced over her shoulder and saw Cordelia and Harmony waiting.

"My chicken friends wanted me to make you go *poof* so we can sit here. Is there any possibility of doing just that?" she asked a little annoyed by the two young women. Sometimes she really did feel like a dog to them.

"Why don't you guys come and sit here with us?" He questioned as he motioned to the open spaces between his friends.

"Because they think it'll lower their intelligence or something, I guess." Buffy replied rolling her eyes. She took another smoke filled drag and shrugged at Xander's incredulous expression.

"Screw them; you don't think that, right?" Xander then asked the blonde with a grin. He didn't need to ask that, he knew Buffy liked him just like he liked her.

"No man, you know I like hanging out with you." Buffy said with a playful shove. If Cordelia wasn't so busy with herself she might see that even though this guy was younger, he was still a good guy and he wouldn't hurt her, unlike the guys she was usually after.

"Good because there's something I want to tell you." He grinned and gestured to Willow "You see that pretty redhead over there?" He asked. Buffy looked over to the redhead laughing with a shorter kid and a girl with short brown hair.

"Yeah, that's Willow, right?" she asked and Xander nodded. Now why did she feel like Xander was going to try something?

"Yeah well, she's gay, too." He said a little softer. Buffy glanced across and saw Willow clearly now. She knew Xander for a few months now, ever since he tried to catch Cordelia's eye, but Willow she'd only seen a few times.

*She's kinda cute, pretty eyes, nice body, love the long hair.* She thought. *Too bad I already have a girlfriend.*

"What do you think?" Xander asked. The blonde could see a glint of hope in the boy's eye, like he wanted for Buffy to hook up with his best friend. Didn't he know her reputation?

"She's cute, very cute, but Xan, you know I'm with Nathalie." Buffy replied. Xander rolled his eyes, clearly knowing how fast Buffy could change her mind, and called the redhead over.

"Hey Will, this is Buffy." Xander said when the redhead was within introduction reach. Willow nodded her hello then turned questioning to Xander. "Well, she's got the same thing going on as you." Xander tried to say subtly, seeing as not everyone knew yet Willow was rooting for the other team.

"You see little people, too?" Willow asked Buffy surprised. She stared dumbly at Xander and Buffy who started laughing. She chuckled nervously and smacked Xander on his arm.

"No, the other thing." Xander breathed while trying to control his laughter. The light in Willow's head seemed to go off and she nodded understanding. She turned to the blonde who managed to keep a straight face.

"Okay, I get it." Willow said "You like Beverly, too?" The blonde choked on the just inhaled smoke from her cigarette and coughed loudly, throwing away her cigarette butt.

"Who's Beverly?" Buffy asked amused after she regained her breath looking between Xander and Willow.

Xander slapped his forehead at the incredible stupid answers Willow provided while Buffy started laughing again. Willow laughed along nervously, really not seeing where this was headed.

"No, Willow. But it does have something to do with that." Xander tried again. He could see the wheel turning in the redhead's head but the hamster must have died because Willow just gave him a blank expression.

"Xander," Willow whined "I don't get it." She crossed her arms and stomped her foot on the ground, earning herself a cooing sound from Buffy. The sound of Buffy obviously thinking Willow was being cute made her uncross her arms as she tried to look uncaring.

"I'm gay." Buffy said before Xander could give another not so subtle hint. She smiled amused at the surprised expression on Willow's face. Not only was Buffy amused by the expression but also a little surprised herself, she really thought everyone knew she was gay.

"Really?" Willow asked suspiciously. The redhead could've sworn she had seen Buffy in some guy's lap just a few weeks ago, holding him very intimately.

"Yeah really, I'm seeing Nathalie, maybe you know her? She's a senior." Buffy replied. Willow shook her head but Buffy just shrugged "Doesn't matter, I'm breaking up with her anyway." Buffy winked at Willow who blushed slightly and took out her cigarettes. *At least when Nathalie says it's over.*

"Want one?" She asked as she lit hers. Willow grinned and took a cigarette while retrieving her lighter from her pocket as did Xander.

"Never say no to an offered smoke." Xander smirked. Buffy went to her usual seat between the year-younger kids, after glaring a kid away. When the school bell rang she didn't motion to get up. Harmony and Cordelia passed her and rolled their eyes at Buffy. The other teenagers that were with Xander and Willow also headed to school but Willow, Xander and Buffy stayed put.

"Shouldn't you kiddies go to school?" Buffy smirked as Willow and Xander took a seat next to her.

"Get off your horse; you're only a year older." Willow replied. Buffy chuckled and took a long draw from her cigarette.

"So, you see little people?" Buffy asked teasingly.

"Shut up." Willow replied but grinned in response.

*I take it back what I said before. Willow isn't just cute, she's kinda hot.* Buffy thought with a smile and let her eyes glaze over the redhead.

-STAMTB-

Buffy was sitting in Chemistry, text-messaging to Xander. She wasn't the brightest student but Chemistry she could pass with ease so she didn't have to worry about her grades, not that she ever worried about her grades.

*I wonder if Willow's interested?* Buffy thought when her cell phone started vibrating. She frowned when she didn't recognize the number but grinned as she read the message.

'Hey Buffy, it's Willow. Got your number from Xan. Wanna join me and Xan at the gate for a smoke after this class?'

Buffy leaned forward and poked Cordelia. The brunette turned around and mouthed 'What?'. Buffy motioned her to come closer as she whispered that she was meeting Willow and Xander for a smoke after Chemistry and asked her to cover for her at English. Cordy rolled her eyes in annoyance but nodded and turned around to face the blackboard.

"Thanks, I owe you." Buffy whispered and took her cell phone. Her fingers skillfully and blindly found all the needed buttons as she appeared to be listening to what her teacher was saying about different elements and what not to do.

'Sure, you know, you could've asked my number this morning.' She hit the send-button and smirked to herself.

*This is going to be fun.* she thought as the bell rang. She grabbed her things and winked at Cordelia before leaving the classroom, heading towards the gate. She smiled as she already saw the two friends standing there.

"Didn't go to class or something?" Buffy asked amused. She reached in her jacket for her cigarettes and pulled out her lighter as well. She hadn't skipped a class in a while, not since she started dating Nathalie. Cordelia thought it was she didn't want to disappoint her girlfriend but in reality it was because Buffy didn't want to bump in her, also skipping classes, girlfriend. Plus the fact that Nathalie was the daughter of their Principal. Their very conservative Principal. So if he ever found out about his baby girl having a girlfriend, there would be hell to pay.

"We had biology, looking for bugs and stuff like that. Pretty disgusting so we bailed." Willow answered grabbing her cigarettes.

"Wait 'til next year, you'll be gone for a week to some bug infested place to examine the waters." Buffy laughed and lit her cigarette.

"You're leaving for a week?" Xander asked surprised.

"Yeah, next week this school will be rid off me for five full days." Buffy chuckled. Willow frowned for a second but when Buffy looked at her she smiled as a blush crept on her face.

*Maybe she is interested.* Buffy shrugged mentally and started chatting with Willow and Xander about the year that's passed and what they can look forward to next year. Buffy began to notice little things about the redhead, like the spark she got in her eyes every time she laughed or the way her hair fell when she looked around checking for teachers.

Buffy groaned when the bell rang, that meant they had a fifteen minute break. That wasn't so bad, in fact she loved their breaks but it was what came out of the classrooms that bugged her.

"Buffy!" she heard someone call and grimaced at Willow and Xander as she turned around and greeted her girlfriend. The blonde girl behind her was beautiful to say the least, her hair dropped to her shoulders with long wavy curls; dark make-up accentuated her already light blue eyes. She was about ten inches taller than Buffy with full curves in all the right places. Nathalie took a quick glance around and then pecked Buffy on the lips and slipped her hand in the blonde's. Buffy casually withdrew her hand and made it seem as though she was pocketing her lighter.

"Hey, babe." She turned back to the two friends "This is Willow and Xander." She said and winked at Willow. Buffy had to stifle a chuckle at Xander who was full out staring at Nathalie.

"Hi, I'm Nathalie." The blonde girl smiled and kissed both of them on the cheek then turned to Buffy who was giving her infamous hooded eyes look to Willow. Nathalie nudged Buffy and motioned to follow her to the other side of the schoolyard.

"No, I think I'm staying here, but you go ahead." Buffy smiled but was pulled away a few feet by Nathalie. Willow and Xander frowned at that, not really sure Buffy was too happy with being manhandled by her girlfriend.

"Honey," Nathalie smiled innocently but Buffy wasn't looking at her, she was looking at Willow. Nathalie turned Buffy's head with her manicured fingers and smiled again "honey, we're a couple, remember? You're supposed to hang with me and my friends."

"Why won't you hang with my friends?" Buffy asked cocking her eyebrow. Not that Buffy wanted Nathalie to hang out with her friends; she just thought this was a perfect opportunity for ending things with the possessive blonde in front of her.

"Because I don't like your friends, remember? They're too young." The tall blonde replied. Buffy rolled her eyes and took a step back, putting some distance between them. Not because of the personal space Nathalie was invading but to make sure she was in sight in case Nathalie...

"Well, I don't like your friends either. They're too stuck up and they're always talking about guys and surprise, surprise, you always check those guys out as if I'm not even there. So, no thanks." Buffy tried to walk away but Nathalie grabbed her arm. The younger blonde managed to stifle a flinch at the harshness Nathalie put in her grip.

"You might wanna let go of my arm." Buffy said with a silent threat hanging in the air between them. Buffy's heart was pounding because in school Nathalie wouldn't try anything but she might. The last couple of weeks she had been taking self-defense classes and if the older blonde tried anything, Buffy could take her.

"If you go to that girl, there's no more us, Buffy." Nathalie said as she let go of the blonde's arm. The words Buffy had been waiting for, this was it. No more worrying about saying the wrong thing, no more threats from Nathalie whenever Buffy tried to end it.

"Then I guess it's just me, Nat." Buffy winked and walked over to Xander and Willow. She could feel Nathalie glaring in her back but shook it off and didn't look back, knowing that if she looked back she could see it in Nathalie's eyes that this was not the end.

"Guess who just got dumped." Buffy said as she arrived the two teens with a grin plastered firmly on her face. She can't let anyone know that inside she was a little, if not a lot, scared at what Nathalie might try.

"You're serious?" Willow asked pleasantly surprised. From what she could see Nathalie was more than just upset but thought it was because Buffy rather wanted to spend her time with her friends than with her girlfriend.

"Yeah, don't really care though." Buffy replied. It was true, she didn't care she was dumped. She didn't like to feel like a possession to show off to her friends and used as a way to rebel against her parents or to make her ex-boyfriend jealous. And she certainly didn't like to feel like she did every time she left Nathalie's place to go home. Not missing the older blonde, not even caring she left the blonde sleeping but the feeling like crap is what she didn't like.

"Yeah, we kinda figured that with your happy-face in place." Xander thought about what he said then grinned "Hey that rimes. Face, place. Get it?"

Willow nodded in agreement just to please her best friend but didn't really care; she was more interested in the now available blonde that was currently text-messaging to someone. Buffy noticed the silence and looked up from her cell phone to the two friends that were very much looking curious at her.

"Just letting Cordy know it's over with Nathalie." Buffy said and finished sending the message. She closed her cell phone and pocketed it.

"Don't you have most of your classes together?" Willow asked a little confused. Okay, when she had something to tell Xander she would text him too as soon as she could but they were always together so there was no need for it.

"Yeah, but if I don't tell her immediately there's gonna be one embarrassed Cordy riding me. She has the habit of making fun of Nathalie and her friends because I'm younger and all that." Buffy replied with a shrug.

"Wait, Cordy's your best friend and she likes to make fun of your girlfriend?" Xander asked, not getting the point. He knew him and Willow loved to make fun of people but they never made fun, in a cruel way or just an annoying way, of their respective girlfriends.

"Ex-girlfriend." Buffy corrected "Of course she likes to make fun of them, it's what keeps her going everyday." The blonde smirked.

"How in god's name did you end up with someone like Cordy?" Xander questioned puzzled. That was a million dollar question to the brown-haired teenager. Buffy was nothing like Cordelia or Harmony.

"Well, she says she kinda detested me when I first got here because I have a habit of getting into fights and making trouble wherever I go." Buffy admitted with a wide grin. "But I just kinda barked one time in class and then she started hanging out with me, saying I'm cool and whatever crap." Buffy shrugged. *Maybe that's why they treat me like a dog.* The blonde mused.

"You barked?" Willow raised an eyebrow. That was a first; she knew teenagers would howl in class or whistle... but barking? That she never heard.

"I refused to sit down before some ass gave me back my books and Beckers yelled at me to sit down so I barked." The blonde answered and groaned as the bell rang.

"Guess I'll see you in about two hours for lunch. Meet me, Harmony and Cordy at MY spot down the street." Buffy said before running to her class. The two friends watched her go before heading to their own classes.

"Will, stop staring at her." Xander grinned at Willow who was still trying to catch a glimpse of the blonde.

"Only when you quit drooling all over her." The redhead grinned back.
