Some Things Are Meant To Be

Chapter 3

[reviews]

A/N: Maybe some might not like my choice of people and their roles, tell me I should've picked someone better but believe me, this is going to be a very long story and trust me when I say that I personally love my choice of character roles. I just hope that by the time every character is worked in, you'll see why and agree. And for the once who're a little confused about the first section of the second chapter... If I tell you anything about it other than what I write, I'll ruin it. So sorry, but it will be more clear in the future.

Chapter 3

"You know, this is a rather small school but when people don't wanna be found, they just can't be found." Buffy commented to her companion as they walked through the hallways. They had a few minutes before their final class started but Buffy hadn't seen the redhead since this morning.

"What did you expect, Buffy? From what I've heard, you scared that girl." The light brown-haired young man next to her replied with a small grin mixed with a frown.

"You think? I didn't think of it that way." Buffy stopped walking for a second then looked thoughtful as they started walking again. *Did I push it? She seemed fine this morning. Maybe he's right. Is he?*

"I know you didn't." The seventeen-year old male commented. He chuckled at the shocked blonde next to him. She hit him playfully on his arm and snorted.

"Are you saying I don't think?" She raised her eyebrow defiantly and waited for his response, getting nothing she crossed her arms "Because I do, really, all the time." The young man laughed and swung his arm around the small blonde.

"Look, you know you're gorgeous but this girl, this Willow, probably doesn't know she really is that, you know, wanted by you." He waited for Buffy to respond but it seemed the lights were off in the blonde's head "She thinks she's just another conquest to you."

"Oh, no, no, definitely not. She's so not just another conquest, Riley. I really like her, she's funny, she's beautiful, and she's so adorable it hurts." She groaned as she thought back to the blush on Willow's cheeks every time she complimented or insinuated something to the redhead. "Do you think she's not ready for that kind of thing?"

"She's fifteen; of course she's not ready." They stopped walking as he turned towards the blonde. "Just ask her out or something." Riley suggested but Buffy just frowned. "Go to a movie, get some pizza afterwards."

"I can do that. It'll be a first, that's for sure." She smiled then a thought it her hard "But what if she's hiding from me because she doesn't really like me?"

"Didn't you tell me she made the move to hold your hand?" Riley smiled reassuringly. He knew this side of Buffy more than anyone. They grew up together; there was no one in the entire world that knew Buffy like he did. They even were a couple for a few weeks but found it best to be friends. They would probably never have become a couple if Buffy wasn't so freaked out by her gender preference. Riley helped her through it, told her that no matter what she liked, girls or boys or both, she would always have him.

"Yeah so? You said I scared the girl so that would mean she was just scared I'd do something totally inappropriate." Buffy snorted and rolled her eyes. If Riley didn't tell her every once in a while that she was pushing her pursuits she would never have a girlfriend. She wasn't always this assertive with girls, at first she had no clue what she was doing but after a while she began to realize she could be very persuasive and it helped her build her confidence. And also created a big ego for herself as well.

"I'm sure she chose to hold your hand all by herself." He told her with a grin. Sometimes the blonde drove him insane because from time to time she could be just so self-assured it annoyed the hell out of him but then she showed the side he knew and loved and made it all better again. He had a small crush on Buffy, which she was aware of, but it wasn't big enough to make him wish she was his. At times he wasn't sure if it was a crush or if it was more brotherly love.

"No, her invisible little people probably told her to do it." Buffy muttered a little too loudly. *Which in itself is kind of cute but also... weird.*

"What?" Riley asked chuckling. Now that was the first time he heard someone had little invisible people. He knew Buffy sometimes talked to herself and claimed she was talking to a guy with a colorful Hawaiian shirt and blue shorts named Scott, but this was Buffy. She had a vivid imagination.

"Never mind. I've got to go, thanks for listening." The blonde said as the bell rang. She really hoped she would run into Willow at the end of class. But now it wasn't to get a kiss, now it was for asking her on a date. *Damn, that sounds so fucking serious. Am I ready for actual dating? Can't hurt to try.*

"No problem." He shot her a grin and gave her a quick hug "Are you coming next Saturday?" He asked as he backed away towards his classroom.

"Yeah sure, maybe I'll get Willow to come with." Buffy replied. *That's it, I'll ask her to come with me to Riley's game and party after.* She involuntarily smiled at the thought of her and Willow at a party, just two days before she left for a week. *Okay, but that means no drinking. Gotta show her my good side.*

"You do that. See you later." Riley gave one final wave and turned around, heading to his class along with some of his friends that had joined him.

"Here you are, we've been looking everywhere for you." Buffy felt herself being pushed forwards with two arms looping through hers. A quick glance to her sides she saw it was just Cordelia and Harmony.

"You couldn't have been looking for me everywhere because then you'd know I've been right here." She commented and rolled her eyes. "Why were you looking for me?" She asked suspiciously.

"Nathalie's been spreading nasty rumors about you." Cordelia said with an exaggerated sigh. *Okay, and I should care because...?* Buffy mentally asked. She was just about to ask her best friend that aloud when Harmony said something that got her complete attention.

"Oh, and Willow was looking for you." The blonde merely said, like it was nothing. *Wasn't she there this morning? She knows I've been looking for her, right? Stupid Harmony.* Buffy glared for a brief second before it really sank in what Harmony just said.

"Really? She was looking for me?" Buffy's mouth twisted in a goofy grin. Harmony rolled her eyes then seemed to think about it. *Don't say you were kidding, little bitch.* This time the glare lasted longer ad Harmony frowned at Buffy.

"Actually, I'm not sure but she just kept looking around, like she was looking for someone." Harmony said in afterthought. Hearing the blonde next to her groan loudly she frowned confused "What? You don't actually think we'd go over there without you, right? That's so beneath us."

"You know, Harm, there are three kinds of people in this world... and then there's you." Buffy sighed and pulled her arms out of her friends' arms. Cordelia glared at Harmony for saying something like that. Okay, Cordelia could be just like that, too, but Buffy really liked Willow so Cordelia could at least be a little more subtle and jokingly about it.

"I'll take that as a compliment." Harmony grinned widely, looking rather proud.

"I wouldn't." Buffy muttered and walked away from her friends.

-STAMTB-

Buffy hadn't been able to concentrate at all on her assignment. Luckily for her, she was paired up with Devon. He was a nice guy and pretty smart but the best part about it was that he was in the same band as Oz, who happened to be Willow's ex-boyfriend. When Devon first talked to her, Buffy was rather confused that he actually talked to her. Not a lot of guys just came up and talked to Buffy. She didn't know why, but had a small feeling it was because of the High School big shot, William, better known as Spike.

She knew about his thing for her but so far he hadn't tried anything, which she was rather glad about. He was the typical bad guy, most guys feared him except for his former best friend and now sort of enemy, Angel. They were total opposites, where Spike had platinum blonde hair; Angel's hair was almost black. The same went for their eyes, Spike had blue eyes and Angel's were, again, almost black. It often made Angel seem like the bad boy, but he was actually the sweetest guy she had ever talked to. Angel was a bit of a loner, didn't really like the popularity Spike just adored. Rumors had it that Spike and Angel were best friends until Spike got into criminal activities and Angel didn't want anything to do with that.

"Hey, are you still with me?" Devon waved his hand in front of Buffy. The blonde was instantly pulled back from her thoughts about Willow. Devon grinned at the blonde and rolled his eyes.

"Will's a good girl, are you sure you want to get involved with her? You've got quite a reputation, you know." He asked. They had finished their assignment a few minutes before. Well, Devon finished it while Buffy was daydreaming.

"I figured she was a good girl, I think that's what I like about her." Buffy smiled warmly. It was true, there was something about Willow that Buffy never had in a girl before. Willow was warm and gentle. Her past girlfriends were nothing like that. They were all about the shallow surface. They only cared about their hair, make-up and clothes. Comparing them to Willow made Buffy think why she ever went for girls like that. Why she even bothered with Harmony. Cordelia wasn't bad all the time, she was just spoiled.

"Yeah, but your reputation is not a good thing, especially after what Nathalie's been spreading about you." Devon leaned on his elbows and watched Buffy's expression from annoyance to indifferent to angry.

"Nathalie can bite me." She sneered and placed her head on her arms, looking back at Devon. She really liked talking to this guy; he was just being nice to her, much like Riley.

"That a girl." Devon grinned then turned serious "But still, if you hurt Willow, you're going to have to deal with a lot of angry guys. I'd watch out for Oz." He checked his watch before collecting his things and carelessly threw them in his backpack.

"Why?" Buffy lifted her head and looked at the teenager quizzically. *What's this Oz going to do? Smack me with his guitar? Hah!* She snorted inwardly.

"He's a quiet type but he's got a real wild animal in him." Devon smiled meekly. As the bell rang he got up and swung his backpack over his shoulder. "I'll see you around, Buffy. Remember what I said."

Buffy nodded mutely but stayed seated for a few more seconds. The moment she stood up Harmony was directly by her side.

"If I throw a stick... Will you leave?" Buffy really wasn't in the mood for Harmony's brainless conversations. Buffy groaned when Harmony just ignored Buffy's pseudo-question and started complaining how she had to sit alone and how sorry she was for Buffy having to sit with Devon.

"You could've come and sit with me. We could've done the assignment together." The ever so chirpy voice of the blonde cut right through Buffy. She really, really wasn't in the mood for this. She just wanted to get out of the school building.

"No thanks." Buffy muttered passing the blonde, straight to the hallway where Cordelia was already waiting for her before Harmony could say anything more.

"Let's just go before Harmony starts about how she definitely aced the assignment." Buffy almost begged her best friend. Cordelia chuckled and quickly led Buffy through the crowd. Buffy was never so happy to see the sky outside the building. She sighed content and followed Cordelia to a bench further down the street.

"So, Spike talked to me today, he was wondering if you were doing something Saturday." Cordelia said trying to be subtle. She wanted nothing more from her best friend then she'd hook up with Spike. She didn't mind that Buffy was into girls, but she just really wanted Buffy to date Spike.

"What did you tell him?" Buffy asked her, trying to sound like she cared about Spike. She really didn't. Okay, maybe she cared about him a little but definitely not enough to date him. More like she'd be sad if he died but that was about it.

"That you were going to the game which didn't go well with him. He really doesn't like jocks, does he?" Cordelia asked in afterthought. That was something she didn't get. How could a guy that loves popularity absolutely hate any form of sports?

"Gee, what tipped you off? The fact that he beats up jocks or that he wears a shirt with 'I hate jocks'?" Buffy asked with a small grin. She loved the fact that Cordelia could be so thick or just plain slow sometimes. She just loved Cordelia, no doubt about it. The, probable, Queen of Sunnydale High was a bitch but a great bitch.

"Whatever. He wants to go out with you." Cordelia dismissed Buffy's sarcastic remark with a wave of her hand "Before you say anything, he couldn't find you so he asked me to tell you that he'd happily make you his queen." Buffy noted that the brunette said the last part a little bitter. *I wonder if Spike and Cordelia would be good together? Nah, not a chance.*

"I'll tell you what, next time you see him you can tell him that he can be the queen and let Drusilla be his king." Buffy quipped with mock enthusiasm. Another girl she really didn't like. Nathalie's best friend, the annoyingly all-knowing Drusilla. There was only one friend of Nathalie's she did like and that was Darla. She at least was friendly to Buffy. Darla was also Angel's girlfriend, something Buffy could understand.

"Drusilla talk? Why wasn't I informed, I have juicy bits about Drusilla." Both girls looked up to see a grinning Xander in tow with Willow.

"Hey guys." She said smiling warmly. Willow smiled widely back and bit her lip, glancing at Cordelia. The brunette suppressed a grin and got up from the bench.

"Xander, do you want a ride home?" She asked the teenager. He grinned goofily and nodded mutely "Call me." She called out to Buffy as she and Xander made their way to the parking lot. The girls were surrounded by a sudden silence. Buffy stood up and faced Willow.

"Okay, so uhm, I actually wanted to apologize." The blonde started, cursing herself for seeming insecure. But she couldn't help it; standing near Willow made her nervous. *Is that contagious or something?* She thought seeing Willow was nervous as well.

"For what?" The redhead finally asked.

"For coming on to strong." Buffy shrugged and put her hands in her front pockets. *Damn you, Riley.* She groaned inwardly.

"You weren't coming on to strong." Willow grinned but after a raised eyebrow from the blonde she continued "Okay, maybe a little but what if I like that?" That surprised Buffy a little. *I thought this was a good girl? Don't they like sweet, shy, innocent people?*

"Yeah, okay, but I can totally understand if you don't-" She didn't get to finish that sentence as Willow pressed her lips on the blonde's.
