Chapter 1

Again she walks through these halls for the third year with a smile on her face because today was the day she was going to tell her best friend that she loved her.

Or at least that's what she told herself each year...

Spotting her talking to her other friend she made her way towards them.

"Hey guys", she greeted them.

"Hey Buffy", her best friend said giving her that winning smile that always melted her heart.

"You gals ready for another year of tormenting teachers and the food guessing game during lunch", Xander tried to lighten the mood but all of Buffy's attention was on Willow.

Unknown to Buffy, Xander was madly in love with her. "So Buffy you need anyone to carry those books for you", he asked but she just nodded no and continued on starring at Willow.

Willow gave her friend a sympathetic smile knowing he was trying to gain her heart but for some reason Buffy never got the hint. Buffy was her best friend but she could never understand how she didn't notice all the stares and constant attention Xander gave her. Shrugging it off she just followed her friends while they headed towards their first period class.

"Hey Willow could you maybe wait a second I need to talk to you", Buffy told her and gave Xander the eye letting him know to leave them alone.

His eyes widening he just pointed towards the classroom and headed inside but not before taking a last glance. Each year Buffy did the same always saying she was going to tell Willow even thought she never did it stilled worried Xander. Heading inside class with his head down he waited the answer once the girls entered the room.

"What's up?", the redhead asked her friend.

"Well there's something I need to tell you", Buffy told her while fidgeting. Willow could tell she was nervous but she didn't know why. "Well you see we have been friends for a long time right", she told her while playing with her hands.

"Seven years", Willow pronounced happily.

"Yeah well in those seven years I came to a conclusion that", she said trying to get the other words out, seeing that Buffy was nervous Willow put a comforting hand on her shoulder.

Buffy suddenly became very flustered. "Well, I.. I", grunting in frustration she saw her best friends bewildered face. "I decided you should tutor me for math."

Willow smiled. "Of course no problem." Chuckling as to why that was so hard to say she headed inside of her class.

Buffy stayed behind mentally slapping herself walking inside she saw Xander anxiously waiting for an answer shaking her head no he saw relief in his eyes and she wondered why.

Class started and the teacher called roll.

"Buffy Summers", Buffy raised her hand.

"Tara Maclay ", she called out. Nobody answered. Looking around for a hand and wondering who this person was the class attention was immediately turned to the door opening. A girl with long blond hair walked into the class.

"Tara Maclay", Miss Calender asked her. Handing the teacher a note she gave the teacher a warm smile and sat down in front of us.

Turning my attention at Willow I noticed Willow's eyes were all over the girl and I felt my jealousy meter rising.

Willow practically had her mouth open.

"Okay kids today in computer class we are going to create graph with partners. Now everyone grab a paper and get a partner and get started on the assignment", the teacher announced.

With a smile already knowing who I was going to ask I turned my attention to Willow but noticed that her hand had already extend to tap... Tara!!!!

Feeling my jealousy go off the meter I watched as Willow introduced herself and Tara agreed. It took all my control to not tackle this girl.

"Hey need a partner?", Xander asked and I just nodded. Xander did the snoopy dance inside knowing he was Buffy's partner.

During lunch Willow sat happily in her seat telling her friends her experience with being Tara's partner.

"She came from New York and lives with her mother. I can't believe she agreed to be partners with me, she is so beautiful", she said it with excitement. Xander just grinned at her while Buffy stayed quite looking at her food.

Xander noticed the worried face Willow gave Buffy and he knew what was eating her up inside. Even though this was going in his favor it still hurt him to know that Buffy was hurting.

"Oh there she is", Willow said and waved at Tara.

Whispering near her Xander tried to cheer her up. "Don't worry at least you are still her best friends and sometimes that's better than any other position."

Seeing a smile on her face he felt happy knowing he at least cheer her up a little.

"Hi", Tara said while sitting down. She knew this girls had a crush on her and if she admitted to herself she also enjoyed Willows company. In fact this girl was known as one of the most beautiful and popular girls on campus.

"I saved you a seat", she told her and pulled it out for her.

"Thanks", she said and sat down.

"So are you liking it so far?", she asked her.

"It's alright", she said and looked at the two others seating with them. Willow noticed her gaze, "Oh sorry for not introducing you, this is Xander and my best friend Buffy."

"Hey", she said she received a warm smile from the boy but the girl seemed withdrawn.

"Hey would you like to join us tonight we are going to the Bronze?", Willow asked her.

"Sure sounds like fun", she could see the excitement in the girls eyes and she couldn't help but smile.

Buffy threw her body on the bed not believing the day she had today. It had started well she was going to tell Willow how she felt Willow would have thrown herself at her and everything would have been Happily ever after but no she had to come.

Tara. She hated that name that's all Willow talked about today. She could tell Willow was falling for her and what was worse was that Tara seemed interested. Who's to blame her I mean she had been surprise at all the girls Willow had turned down. I mean Willow is the one of the most popular girls at school and girls and guys are always trying to ask her out. But Willow always said she has been waiting for that special girl.

Buffy always thought she was that special girl Willow just had to realize it.

When she heard the front door bell ringing she groaned and stood up. She opened the door and smiled when she realized it was Willow.

"Hey Willow come in", she told her with a big smile plastered on her face.

Willow walked in, "I need your help. This is very important."

Instantly becoming worried she put all her attention to Willow. "Yeah of course what is it?"

"I need you to help me pick out a outfit for tonight"

**********************************************************************************

Buffy tried her hardest not to stare while Willow undressed in front of her for the tenth time.

Willow knew she was being irrational but tonight she had to look perfect for Tara their was just something about her that made her gravitate towards her. For the past couple years she's been in high school she has turned down every proposal but Tara was different.

Turning around she modeled for Buffy, "What do you think?"

"You look great just like you looked in every other outfit. Come on Willow you look great we should get going", her best friend told her. Taking a last glance at the mirror she smiled and decided that this was the outfit.

"She's amazing Buffy. I am really glad she came here, I think she is the girl I have been waiting for", she told her best friend. Looking through the mirror Willow saw her friends expression she frowned when she noticed Buffy's sad look.

Turning around she sat next to her friend. "What wrong Buffy?"

Looking up she didn't think she was that transparent, quickly smiling she looked at Willow. "Nothing just I am happy for you its just-", she could feel the words coming out but Willow cut her off.

"Don't worry Buffy you and me are still going to hang out the three of us nothing is going to change you are still my best friend." Willow told her trying to cheer her up thinking Buffy felt their friendship was going to change.

Buffy smiled and nodded. Smiling Willow stood up and took Buffy hand. "Come on lets go boogie."

Xander anxiously looked around trying to see when Buffy and Willow arrived. Seeing them enter he quickly got up and waved towards his direction. Spotting him they made their way over to the table. Pulling out the chair Willow smiled and was about to sit down when he saw the look on his face and made a b-line to the other chair. She knew that chair was reserved for Buffy she was just joking with him.

Buffy looked confused by the situation but none the less took the offered sit.

"Have you seen Tara Xander?", Willow asked.

"Not yet but I'm sure she will be showing up soon." Just then Tara walked in Willow instantly stood up and made her way over to the entrance.

Buffy watched her every move like she was magnetized to her. Xander turned around taking advantage of her alone time with Buffy. "So Buffy would you like to..."

"Do you think Tara is prettier than me?", she asked him. Xander sighed knowing he couldn't get Buffy's mind off of Willow.

"A secret between you and me I think you are more prettier", he told her. She sighed at his words and rested her chin on the chair while she looked at the two girls interact.

"Than I don't understand why doesn't she see me that way", she tells him.

"Sometimes people can't see what is right in front of them", he told her while looking down thinking about his current situation.

Willow smiled at Tara happy to see her. "You made it", she told her and took a good look at Tara. She looked beautiful and Willow couldn't take her eyes off of her. "You look wonderful today", she told her.

Tara smiled feeling happy that Willow complimented her. Taking a quick glance at the redhead she had to admit the girl in front of her was gorgeous. "You look amazing as well."

"Oh I just threw this on", she gave a nervous laugh. "But thank you would you like to take a seat with me and my friends.

"I would love too."

Buffy quickly turning around when she noticed them walking towards them she awaited the discomfort she would have to endure for the entire day. Watching Willow flirting with another girl.

"Hi", she greeted us and I just smiled at her. I watched as Willow pulled the chair out for her and sat happily next to her.

They all sat not knowing what to do or say. Xander still trying to figure how to get Buffy's mind off of Willow and opening her mind to the possibility that maybe they can work out. But before anything he had to get the courage to tell her his deepest feelings.

Buffy couldn't stand sitting in the same table that Willow and her possible new girlfriend sat as well. It broke Buffy's heart to watch Willow do all the things she wished the redhead would do for her. When all she wanted was for Willow to love her like she loves her. Why is it so hard?

Willow sat next to Tara contemplating whether to try and hold her hand. She had never met anyone quite like Tara and she wanted her to be hers.

Tara felt lucky that Willow had befriended her, her first day of school. She hoped that their friendship could maybe grow into more.

Xander and Buffy sat down feeling hopeless while the other two sat with hope.

Just another day at the Bronze.
