I'm still here aren't I? Dang.

About the movie. Joss has said on many occasions that it got re-written
into garbage by other people. I just cited the movie as a source because
most people have seen it. My info really came from things that both the
movie and the comic book version of Buffy's origin as the Slayer agree on.
The comic book was adapted from Joss' original script, before it got
re-written. Supposedly, it is a lot closer to the story Joss originally
intended to tell. I think Joss said something to that effect somewhere, I
just can't find it at the moment. If you read the comic, Merrick dies much
differently. Also, Merrick originally tried to get Buffy to fight alone,
and was pretty much the anal control freak that seems to be typical of
watchers, but through the course of his relationship with Buffy, he pulled
his head out and started reconsider council policies.

I don't think Quentin was corrupt exactly, and I don't think that the
watcher's council is trying to sabotage the cause, I think they have a
different problem. They have gotten too full of themselves. They think
they are the only ones who know what they are doing, that that their way is
the only right way. They've gotten so obssessed with being in control, that
they would rather command the slayer than assist her. Maintaining their own
power has become more important to them than defeating the evil. And of
course they cannot possibly ever admit that they are doing things wrong.
Hmmm... I haven't explained this very well, but I really, really have to go
now. I'll try again tomorrow if the discussion is still going. And it's
all just my own theory of course.
