OT: What Happened?

Huh, Hey guys,
I realize that I'm no list owner, or moderator, listparent or even the
unofficial listasshole (although I'd probably qualify for that) Also I
lurk more than I write and at best my "talent" is mediocre but I wanted
to pose a question to ya'all. When I joined this list I was told it was
okay to post fics here and that the worst they would get was
CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. It was supposed to be acceptable to post any
'ship as long as it was based on BtVS.
What happened? I mean here lately it seems a lot of extremely negative
things are being put out to those that don't deserve it. I'm sure that
I'm not the only one that has noticed this trend. The only reason I even
say anything is it's getting out of hand and I'm hoping the ones that
are putting out this stuff, didn't realize how bad they were getting,
and stop it.
