Hakida could hear Willow crying in the room down the hall. She didn't
think it was a coincedence that Buffy put her as far away from Willow
as she could be yet still stay on the same floor of the same house.

"Dario" Hakida called to her partner. Anya was right, she never
traveled alone. But Dario was worth protecting. "Dario" Hakida tried
again using the frequency that Mystic usually spoke in.

The air shimmered slightly around her and Dario appeared on her
plane. Dario was built much like Willow. Though Willow was vibrant
with her red hair and peached skin, Dario was pale as moon light.

Her hair was pure white, her eyes so gray you could only see the
pupil when standing a few feet away. She was dressed as customary,
white silk robe, and hood.

"She's in pain" Dario whispered. The Mystic pulled the cowl from her
head "The other witch has hurt her" Dario settled herself on the bed
next to Hakida.

"Yeah she did. But there's nothing I could do to make her better"
Hakida sighed softly.

"You could make her forget" Dario suggested innocently.

"You won't allow it. I can't lay a hand on her without betraying you"
Kida took Dario's hand "And I know you'd never give me permission"

"Your right. I wouldn't. I worked to hard to make you mine just to
let you go around helping chosen witches 'forget'. I trained you
better than that" Dario whispered kissing Kida's knuckles.

"Somehow I knew that" Kida whispered hugging the other Mystic to
her. "I have missed you love"

"I've been with you the whole time" Dario giggled when Kida's breath
tickled her ear.

"But I couldn't be 'with' you all this time" Kida emphasized.

"It has only been one night-" Dario brushed Kida's hair from her
face. She was tucking the small braids behind Kida's ear when Anya
burst through the door.

Dario disappeared in the blink of an eye.

"She was here wasn't she?" Anya looked around the room. Searching the
air for the telltale signs of another mystic's presence.

"Your invading my privacy. I don't appreciate that" Kida said with
her temper in her voice.

"I want to know who your mate is" Anya crossed her arms belligerently.

"Don't you have a man whore to go to?" Kida sniped at her.

"Hey you leave Xander out of this" Anya advanced on the seated Mystic.

"Then leave my mate out of this. Who I'm partnered to and whom I love
are none of your cursed business" Hakida's voice had risen to a yell.

"Anya, Kida what's going on?" Buffy had sprinted to the room at the
sound of the raised voices within.

"She's invading my privacy for her own morbid curiousity" Kida said
pointing at Anya.

"I just wanted to see who she was mated to. Then she brought Xander
into this-" Anya pointed back at Kida.

"I told you to go to him. Leave me be, haven't you done enough damage
to me as it is?" Kida hadn't meant to say that much. She was
breathing heavily and couldn't meet anyone's eyes.

"Come on Anya. I'll call Xander to come take you home" Buffy ushered
the former demon out of the room.

"Aww Kida sweetie she's just like that. But I'm sure you know that"
Willow said in the most comforting voice she could muster. She wiped
her face dry of her own tears and reached for her friend. She could
tell Kida was hurting. She recognized the slump that she was sitting
in.

"She's just so-" Kida couldn't think of a word to describe the former
demon "So-"

"Aggrivating, annoying, insistent, devoid of tact whatsoever?" Willow
offered sweetly.

"All of the above" Kida laughed pushing her hair out of her eyes.

"So you're mated" Willow tried. She'd always have a place in her
heart for her beautiful friend. And she suspected Kida felt the same.

"Yes. So are you" Kida sighed pulling at the hair on her nape.

"I am? To who?" Willow perked up.

"Whom. And you'll find her in time" Kida laughed at the look Willow
shot her.

"I take it there's no way to get it out of you?" Willow needled.

"Nope"

"What if I get Buffy to beat it out of you?" Willow playfully shadow
boxed.

"She can't hurt me unless I let her or I hurt her. Besides what makes
you think it's not Buffy herself?" Kida needled back.

"Buffy doesn't date girls. She loves me but not like that" Willow
said quietly staring at the wall. It had a strange glow to it.

"Are you sure she doesn't date girls?" Kida said looking to where
Willow was staring. Dario was leaning against the wall the witch was
studying. Kida wondered if Willow could see the peripheral glow.

"I'm sure I'd know by now if she did. We've been friends for 5 years"
Willow laughed to cover up her uncertainty.

"But if you had a chance with her would you take it?" Kida asked
hearing Buffy return to the upstairs hallway. She was just outside
the door.

"With Buffy?" Willow's voice shook slightly "Well I'm not adverse to
it. But I could never tell her. I don't want to ruin our friendship"
Willow began to worry her hair "She was the best thing to happen to
me since you left. I needed her at first. Now I just love her so much
I could never leave. I still need her though"

"Maybe that's all she needs to know" Kida suggested.

Willow brought her attention away from the glowing wall "I'll never
tell her. And neither will you"

"You'd blow your chance at being happy with the Slayer because your
afraid it would ruin your friendship?" Kida sqeaked apalled by
Willow's cowardess.

"I'd rather have a good friend in the Slayer than an ex-girl friend"
Willow sighed sadly.

"What makes you think she'd ever let you go?" Kida frowned. Willow
had some deep seated fear of being alone.

"I'm a real forgettable girl. Just look at what Tara did to me"
Willow grouched before stomping from the room.

Out in the hall Buffy heard her coming and didn't want to be caught
eavesdropping. In one smooth action the Slayer leapt to the ceiling.
Spreading her arms and legs she braced herself on the wall above
Willow's eye line.

Willow oblivious to the Slayer above her stormed into her room and
slammed the door.

Buffy dropped down from her perch and slowly walked into her own
bedroom. Willow's words kept repeating in her head.

"Well I'm not adverse to it"

Maybe Buffy had a chance after all.

"Way to go" Dario reappeared against the wall. "You got that out of
her for the Slayers ears"

"I had to. She's so unhappy. She needs to trust someone again" Kida
sighed.

"She can trust you" Dario pointed out joining Kida on the bed.

"But how do I show her that?" Kida rubbed her tired eyes.

"Tell her about me. Tell her my name" Dario shrugged. "Kill two birds
with one stone. Make Willow feel better, and make that reject of a
demon jealous as hell"

"That's a good idea. But that could endanger us both" Kida pointed
out "You and Willow are truly my only weakness. I'd never let anyone
hurt either of you. But if she knows your true name, demons and such
might come after her if they find out"

"She won't tell anyone she knows. Except the Slayer maybe. And
Slayers are good with their secrets." Dario assured her mate. She
drew Kida gently into her arms "Maybe we could meet. I would love to
get to know the woman who stole my djashi's heart before I met her."

"My heart belongs to you" Kida assured her fervently.

"Yes I know. But you love her. If you love her I love her. She's a
big part of who you've become. She made a really big difference in
your life. I want to know the soul who canged your's so profoundly"
Dario stroked Kida's hair affectionately.

"I can live with that" Kida sighed as she began to drift off.

Dario smiled down at her soulmate, and began to sing.

Down the hall Willow began to hear a pleasant hum, of sound. Though
it seemed to have no rhythm it soothed her. She cleared her mind and
relaxed. If she listened well enough it was almost as if she could
make out words.
