Hey, Baby

A/N: This is more of a snippet, actually. I couldn't just leave the story hanging any longer, and knew that I wouldn't get the rest written until tomorrow. Consider this more as a part A, and expect part B tomorrow, or the next day at the latest.

----------------

That afternoon, the girls were woken to the sound of knocking. Forgetting that she'd locked the door the night before, Willow groaned, as she dislodged herself from Buffy's still warm form. Placing one last kiss on her sleeping wife's forehead, the redhead wrapped a robe around herself, and made her way downstairs to let Xander and Anya in the house, baby Jesse in tow. Her hair was a mess, and she smelled strongly of sex and sweat. Anya just had to mention that, and Xander just had to get that familiar lusty look on his face. The two definitely needed this vacation. There had been much arguing from Xander, saying that they couldn't just take Jesse anywhere. When Willow mentioned that they were going to take her, and that the two would have plenty of time to have sex anytime they wanted, Anya immediately agreed to the situation. It took the young man a while but when he saw the lusty eyes his wife was giving him, he jumped into the time off, too.

Now, they were going over the same routine they did every time they left Jesse with the girls. They hadn't told anybody about trying to make a baby yet. If something happened, and Buffy wasn't able to get pregnant, then they didn't want to get everybody else's expectations up as well. It was hard enough worrying about the possibilities of something going wrong. The doctor's appointment tomorrow was meant to quell some of those demons. While Anya was giving the rant of the thousand emergency contact list, Xander whispered something in her ear; she immediately stopped talking. The two said quick goodbyes, and kisses to their little girl. Her breathing increasing, Anya dragged her husband out of the Rosenberg-Summers house, and said a quick goodbye to Willow.

The redhead laughed lightly at the enthusiasm the two exuberated. Turning back to the napping baby, she tucked her further under the blanket, and made sure that she wouldn't fall off for a few minutes. She mentally debated whether it was a good idea or not but she was still naked underneath her robe, and needed a shower. Finally, she picked the sleeping girl up, and carried her lovingly up to her bedroom, placing her in the spot on her bed that she had previously vacated. Her wife was still sleeping soundly, and she smiled, kissing them both on the cheek, and making sure that the pillows were positioned well enough that Jesse wouldn't fall off the bed. Deciding it was okay, she resumed her quest for cleanliness.

Willow took a quick shower, and combed her hair, opting not to dry it naturally. In the room, she quietly placed underwear, a pair of jeans, and a form-fitted white t-shirt on before shaking her hair loose from its slicked back position. The baby must have sensed her movements, and decided to wake up but Buffy continued her soft, heavy breathing indicating that she was out cold still. Smiling again, and before the baby could wake her wife up, Willow picked Jesse up, and took her downstairs. First, she calmed the girl down once she started crying for her mother. After all, the little girl was used to her mommy smothering her to death. The redhead was convinced that Xander did the same thing, especially when Jesse started calling softly for 'momma,' and 'dada.'

Once the baby was calm, Willow looked at the clock, and noticed that it was already 5. They hadn't eaten anything yet that day, so she knew Buffy would be starved when she finally woke. Jesse must have been hungry, too. At least, that's what Willow suspected, since the girl kept pawing at her boobs. Giggling, she took the little girl into the kitchen, and placed her in the high chair that was already there. Handing her one of the prepared bottles of Anya's breast milk, Willow was glad to see Jesse sucking the liquid greedily. So far, the week was starting out good. The redhead went about making a nice dinner for Buffy that wouldn't take much time, since the baby was already devouring the milk rapidly. Willow wondered if maybe Jesse had that high metabolism problem of Buffy's...that made her chuckle slightly, as she moved the frozen peas into the pot, the pre-cooked frozen chicken to bake, and the carrots in another pot. All she had to do was stir; it made it easier to keep an eye on the baby. Around her third stir, she heard the shower running above her head, which indicated her wife was finally awake. Remembering the previous night's activities, a shiver ran through her body, and she sighed longingly. The ecstasy made the tiredness cancel out completely.

Dinner was ready to go, and Willow finished portioning things off as Jesse giggled slightly from the chair. The redhead smiled at the happy baby, and went over, and tickled her. Pulling the baby-clad chair into the dining room next to the table, she went to retrieve the plates, and make them some drinks. The shower shut off just as she was laying the glasses next to the plates. Waiting on Buffy to come downstairs, Willow started to tickle and play with Jesse again.

That's how the blonde found them, as she stopped in the entryway, hiding her presence, and watching her wife do a twisted rendition of 'Jesse's Girl.' The little air guitar that the redhead was helping the giggling baby play was the cake. That's what made Buffy think that Willow would make a great mom, among other things.

"Jesse is a baby girl...do do do do do." Willow was holding Jesse's hands in proper air guitar formation, as she continued the song.

"You do you clean it up..." Buffy sauntered in with a big grin plastered on her face, as Willow jumped slightly; she should have been paying more attention but she was having too much fun.

"Hey!" The panicked, 'busted' look on the redhead's face was priceless, as she stopped her playtime. There'd be more soon enough. Buffy walked over, and kissed her firmly on the lips, which she was happy to reciprocate. "I made dinner."

"I see that. Smells good." Buffy walked over, and ruffled Jesse's hair a little before sitting down to eat. They started shoveling food in their mouths; hunger was an understatement. "What time did you say the appointment is for tomorrow again?"

"11 but we should get there a little earlier to fill out forms. We'll obviously take Jesse with us." Willow chuckled a little.

"Puppy!" Jesse was excited because Bubbles showed herself finally. It usually took a while when the little girl was here before the dog would come out of hiding. Wagging her little nub, she laid down in her usual spot at the dinner table by Buffy's feet.

"We could get Bubbles to watch her but I think Anya would panic." Buffy chuckled, and leaned over slightly, pausing in her rapid consumption to pet the dog.

"And rightly so. I guess she'll be the first person to know we're trying to have a baby of our own." Willow smiled, and sighed, pausing in her own consumption to smile lovingly at her wife.

"By the way...loved the show there a minute ago." Buffy smirked teasingly, and Willow blushed. The redhead really didn't like to sing too often, and barely let loose to sing along with CDs in the car. "It was very moving; I wanted to give you a standing ovation but I was already standing."

"Okay. You'll get yours, Ms. 'I make up songs in the shower.'" Willow arched an eyebrow, and Buffy took the bait.

"Hey! Those are real songs." She pouted, knowing it was hard to hide the habit from her wife. It was one of the funniest things that Willow thought endearing about the blonde when they first moved in together.

"Yeah...but only according to you and the water." Willow decided to tack on the song she heard her lover singing yesterday, since it was still fresh in her mind. "Come on, baby. 'We are caught in the fire? At the point of no return?' Honestly, Buffy... not something I'd be singing in the shower." Willow pondered that for a moment. "Actually, that would be a good place to sing it... unless you were in flames from a grease fire, which would be bad because it would just cause the flames to spread, which isn't good, since I don't want you to hurt, and..." Buffy gave her the 'aww, babble mode' look, and Willow ducked her head, and blushed from the glazed eyes.

"Well, since you're the music expert, I'll take your critique to heart. No more cheesy songs for you." Buffy chewed her chicken, and just watched the redhead do the same, their eyes still locked in a gaze.

"Well, truth is...I actually love those cheesy songs." Willow giggled when she saw Jesse chewing on her teething ring.

"What's so funny? She's teething; that's normal." Buffy was perplexed. All the little girl was doing was wrapping her gums, and attempting to chew the round, soft rubber-like toy.

"No, I know that. I was laughing at Xander and Anya."

"Well, that's normal but other than the obvious link with Jesse here, what made you think of them?" Buffy shoveled some peas on her fork, and ate them with her yummy face. She loved when Willow put her special spice mix with the vegetables.

"Oh, I walked into their house one day. This is when they were still engaged, and caught them dancing around the living room, and singing some crazy song about the other's faults and attributes, and fears and doubts, too. I couldn't help but giggle. They didn't even know I was there until they crashed on the couch at the end, and heard me laughing." Willow was chuckling heartily at the memory. It was too funny to pass up a good laugh.

"Wish I'd been there. I can see Anya now, in her underwear, and high heeled shoes..." Buffy was chuckling, too, which caused Jesse to laugh at them. The rest of dinner was light conversation, and they moved into the living room after cleaning up things. They went about playing with Jesse, bathing her, and changing her into pajamas. When she was asleep, the two lovers just embraced front to back, as they watched the slumbering form of their 'niece,' both wanting a daughter of their own.
