A/N: I've had the urge to update these fics for some time but I've been so tired lately...lol

-------------------

Willow was miserable. This last fight had really done something to their relationship, and Buffy moved back in with her Mom, leaving Willow in the house by herself. They weren't together anymore, and Willow was completely miserable.

How did things get so bad? Why couldn't she just let things go? Why did she have to get upset?

They wouldn't even look at each other when they were both at the Magic Box. The rest of the Fall semester was hard on both girls.

Dawn kept trying to get them back together, setting them up to be in the same place at the same time...but it only backfired. The two girls would panic, and walk away in opposite directions.

The breakup caused the entire Scooby gang to feel awkward. Anya was always quick to point out that fact.

Two months they hadn't been together now, and still they both cried themselves to sleep every night.

------------

Winter break started, and Fred drove down to stay with her parents. She couldn't wait to finally see the Magic Box, and meet this Tara girl that Faith was dating. She knew she could bring some help in researching the latest demon, too. She missed the camaraderie of the Scooby gang. Angel was too broody.

What she found instead broke her heart...

Willow was reading in the corner, trying to steer clear of the shoppers. The bells chimed overhead, and on instinct she looked up...only to see her former girlfriend walk in the store. She was so happy to see Fred that she tossed her book to the floor, and stood. When Fred their eyes locked, they just stood and stared at each other. It had been too long since they'd talked.

"Willow..." One look into those sad green eyes, and the deadness of the store, and Fred knew. Something wasn't right.

"Fred..." Willow took a tentative step forward but was afraid of what would happen.

"Where is everybody?" Fred took a step towards Willow, and they slowly inched towards the other. "I figured..."

"Yeah, well. It's not that exciting around here most days. Xander has work. When Anya's not harassing customers, she's doing inventory. Faith is usually in the back, or with Tara. And Giles is doing research." Willow didn't want to mention that Buffy avoided the Magic Box anymore.

"I've heard some good things about this Tara girl." Fred noticed that Willow deliberately avoided talking about Buffy. "It's great to see you again."

"I miss you." Willow was tired of feeling alone. An old friend was exactly what she needed. "Would you like to come over to the house? I was just getting ready to leave."

"That'd be nice. I could see the new Slayer." Fred was baffled when Willow held out her hand but took it anyways.

--------------

They hung out every day for the past week. It seemed that the two were still as comfortable as the day they met. The awkward breakup with Buffy was never mentioned but Fred was given the scoop from Xander. Buffy had left Willow, and it'd been uncomfortable around them both ever since. That was two months ago, and they still wouldn't even look at each other.

Now, Willow was putting popcorn in a bowl, and they were going to watch a late night movie. The two former lovers were becoming fast friends again. Little did they know that midway through the movie, they'd both reach for the popcorn, and their hearts would swell. Soon, the movie was forgotten, as Willow tossed the popcorn bowl from between them, and met Fred in the middle for a searing kiss that rocked them both hard.

It didn't take long before they had each other naked, and fell to the floor in a heap of tangled limbs. After they'd reached orgasm, they both just lie there, panting, trying to catch their breaths, staring at each other in utter shock. This wasn't what they had planned to happen.

Fred jumped up, and started scrambling to put her clothes back on. She couldn't do this; not when Willow so obviously was still madly in love with Buffy. This couldn't work...she couldn't let Willow break her heart again. She was just now starting to get over her before the break started.

"Fred, wait...please? Stop...for just a minute...please?" Willow stood, still naked, and tried to stop Fred from running away from her. It's not like this was what she had planned.

"Don't, Willow." Fred stopped when she felt the redhead's arms wrap around her from behind. It was so tempting to get lost in them but she had to stay strong if she expected to keep her sanity. "I can't do this again..."

"It just happened. This isn't why I asked you over here." Willow was torn between her love for Fred, and her love for Buffy. It seemed she always found herself in this position. If she didn't say the right thing now, she could very well lose one of her best friends. "I'm sorry...I don't want to hurt you."

"I know...and I don't want to hurt you, either." Fred turned around, and saw Willow's face. It was still glowing from their previous activities. "I should probably go..."

"Please don't?" Willow knew she sounded pitifully but she couldn't sleep another night alone, especially after what they'd just shared. It'd been four months since she'd been touched like that. "I...I want you to stay...here...with me."

"I can't." Fred took a deep breath, and immediately regretted it. Instead of pulling her shirt over her head, she took Willow in her arms. This was the beginning of an affair...

--------------

Her mom was feeling better, Dawnie was safe for the time being, and Buffy was tired of wallowing in her stupidity. She had left Willow after that last fight. The redhead said it was over, and instead of staying and working things out, Buffy just walked away. It was the dumbest thing she'd ever done.

Dawn kept pestering her to talk to the redhead, to at least acknowledge her presence but where would she even start? Willow made it perfectly clear that they were through. Now, her mom had a date, Dawn was staying with Janice, and she was alone in the house. Now that things were quiet, she had time to process her thoughts. Maybe she needed to just go over there, pick up a pizza and ice cream, and show up, force Willow to talk to her. They had to do something. Their mutual ignoring was tearing the gnag apart.

As she walked with cold in one hand, and hot in the other, Buffy had made up her mind. She wanted Willow to take her back. She was going to completely bare her soul tonight. She'd been avoiding the Magic Box this past week, not wanting to see Willow giggling with Fred. Maybe it was her jealousy of the young brunette that caused her to step into action but Buffy was ready to beg, plead, and do anything possible. She just needed her Willow back.

After the second knock, she was starting to think Willow wasn't home. That's when she heard giggling on the other side of the door, then a startled gasp. She heard whispers on the other side of the door before it opened to reveal Willow, clad in only her robe.

"Buffy? What are you doing here?" Willow was scared. Why did the blonde have to choose now to show up?

"Well...I was thinking...and you know how that's dangerous...and I wanted to talk...with you. That is, if you're not too busy...but it looks like I caught you at a..." That's when Buffy noticed the mess behind the redhead, and the familiar smell that permeated the air. It only took two seconds to put everything together. "...bad time."

"Buffy, it's not what you think." Willow recognized the look in Buffy's eyes.

"I think you were fucking Fred!" Buffy tried to rein in her emotions, and took deep breaths. "Sorry...it's just. She hasn't been in town a week, and you're already...with her. Nice to know you could move on so quickly."

"It's not like we're together. You made that perfectly clear when you left."

"You were the one that broke up with me!"

"No, I didn't! I said that we had to do something, or that's what would happen." Willow was steamed. How dare she? Sometimes, Buffy had the worst timing. Fred was waiting in the bedroom.

"She's still here, isn't she?" Buffy saw how Willow kept glancing back towards the bedroom. "In our bed."

"It's not our bed anymore!" Willow wanted to scream, cry, yell, breakdown...anything but deal with this right now. Taking a few deep breaths, both girls stared at each other, their jaws tightened. "Now's not the time. If you still wanna talk, meet me at the Espresso Pump tomorrow morning at 9. If you don't show up, then that's it."

"I'll be there." Buffy didn't want to cry until she got home but she could feel the tears start already.

"Sure you won't forget?" Willow closed her eyes. Now she was just being mean. It still hurt...those months of being ignored by Buffy. Maybe they could come to a mutual understanding at some point...but not right now.

"Bye." Buffy walked down the sidewalk without even waiting for Willow to say goodbye. She dumped the carton of ice cream and pizza in the big garbage bin at the end of the driveway.

Meanwhile, Willow was on the verge of tears, as Fred risked a glance out the doorway. She saw Willow still standing there, alone at the front door, about to breakdown. Wrapping her arms around the redhead, Fred took her back to bed. They could talk about this later.
