Chapter Seven

Giles looked at Lauren as she slowly explained what she was in Sunnydale for. The council had sent a, well, companion (for lack of better word) for the slayer. He cleaned his glasses.

"She does not need a companion." He said, blushing at mentioning the word.

"The council doesn't agree with you." She says simply.

"What if she already has one?" he asks as a last attempt before going to pick up the phone and call Buffy at home.

Back at Buffy's house:

Buffy picked up the phone on the second ring in the kitchen.

"Hello" she said into the receiver.

"Buffy, you need to come to the library...bring Willow, Amy, and Tara with you." Giles said without explaining that it was him calling (I mean, how many British guys called her?).

"We'll be there in ten." She said and hung up.

Walking past Amy into the front of the house she grabbed her and Will's jackets and, handing it to Willow explained that they were needed in the library.

"Ohh...Bat signal." Willow said, getting a strange look from everyone but Buffy who just reached over and grabbed her hand.

"Uhm, you guys, if you don't mind could you kinda not tell any one about me and Willow? Cause you're the only people that know...and were not sure that we want everyone to know yet." Buffy said before they were even out of the house. The two girls nodded and they left the house, heading for the school on foot.

They arrived with a few minutes to spare, so once they were inside of the school their walk slowed down considerably. Reaching the Library door Willow disconnected her and Buffy's hands. Buffy pouted but didn't say any thing more.

Xander was already there...along with Cordelia for some odd reason, along with a new person. As soon as Buffy saw the other girls' presence her eyebrows rose up an inch or so, then quickly lowered back down as she saw Cordelia eyeing Xander...who in turn was eyeing herself. Then she glanced at the most recent stranger and quickly decided she didn't like the "come hither" vibes radiating off of her.

She shuddered, trying to brush off the feeling that he was thinking something nasty and perverted. Xander of course noticed and quickly offered her his jacket, which she refused, but when Willow began rubbing her hands up and down her arms she was reassured a little bit.

Xander took that information in for analysis. She wouldn't accept his jacket, but she would allow her best friend to rub her.... 'interesting'. Was the only thought that entered his brain...besides the ones that were busy undressing Buffy in his mind, going 'Sex, sex, sex.'

"Buffy I would like you to meet Lauren Andrews. From the council." Giles said matter of factly. Willow reached slowly under the table to put her hand on Buffy's thigh, only to feel Buffy's fingers lace with her own.

"What do they want?" Buffy asked after they had been sitting in silence for all of five seconds, everyone seeming to absorb the new information.

"Yes actually. She was sent to be your...uhm... companion." Giles trailed off.

"My what?" Buffy said at the same time Willow went "Her what?" as both hands squeezed each other tight. Giles blushed and started explaining how, since Slayers had more masculine qualities than the average woman, it had been recorded by the watchers that she would prefer a female companion verses a male companion. By this point in time,Willow looked incredibly territorial, and Cordelia and Xander had already left for the Bronze along with Amy and Tara.

"And so, the council has selected a mate for you." Giles finished up.
