Chapter Twentythree

Willow and Buffy arrived at the Bronze at ten fifteen, both of them looking slightly out of breath. They walked in slowly, holding hands, and looking for Amy and Tara. Standing on her tipitoes, Willow looked for them.

"Oh, there they are!" She said as she pointed across the Bronze to a small table in the back, and began to drag Buffy across the club. They cut through a couple of different groups, and were only three tables away when someone came to stand directly in front of the couple.

"Hi." he said, smiling shyly. "I was wondering if you wanted to maybe dance?" he asked, as his eyes searched Willows in a way that told Buffy he was putting the major moves on her girlfriend. She was getting ready to tell this guy to back off, when her judgement told her that that wouldn't be the best way to win Willow's affections away from this guy. Even though she shouldn't have to win her over anyway. "My name's Oz, by the way." He said, holding out a hand. Willow stared at his hand for a minute, not sure what to do since her only free hand was her left hand and he obviously wanted to shake her right hand. Buffy tightened her grip on Willows hand.

"Willow." She said as she opted to wave at the guy instead. "But, uhm, I'm here with someone, so a definate no to the dancing. Sorry." She said, actually looking genuinly apologetic.

"Oh, well maybe some other time?" he asked hopefully.

Willow looked at the guy before her. He was kind of cute, with short spiked hair, and searching eyes. There was something about him that seemed almost magnetic, and she felt bad for rejecting him, having been on the rejection end for so many years. "Uhm, yeah, sure, maybe some other time." She said guiltily looking down at her shoes. She knew that chances were she'd never dance with the young man, she had only said yes because of her guilt. She really had no desire to be in anyone but Buffy's arms, and as she tightened her grip on the blonde's hand, she knew that Buffy understood. "Well, it was nice meeting you." She said as she continued to pull the blonde along to Amy and Tara's table.

"Who was that?" Tara asked pointing at Oz.

"Oh, that's Oz." Amy said before Buffy or Willow could answer. They both stared at the brunette, "What? He's the lead guitarist for 'Dingo's ate my baby'. Everyone knows that. What'd he want?" She asked after having explained her knowledge of the young man.

"Oh, uhm, he wanted to dance." Willow said as she ducked her head again. She felt Buffy place a hand on her upper thigh, and she covered it with her own.

"Ohhhhhh." Amy said as if she had just solved some hard math problem.

Xander walked up to the table and leaned on his elbows between the two couples. "So girls, what are we up to tonight?" he asked as he looped his arms around both Buffy and Amy's shoulders. Buffy raised an eyebrow, as did Amy.

"Well, we were gonna go home and take a much needed break after the Bronze, but for now, I think some dancing is in order." Buffy said, looking directly at Xander.

"Great, that'll be great-" He started saying as he stepped back and held out his hand.

"Will you dance with me?" Buffy said as she suddenly turned from facing Xander towards Willow. Willow's smile lit up the room as she accepted, and they began to dance together.

Xander looked slightly rebuffed as he watched the two girls dance. A slow song came on, and Buffy and Willow pulled eachother close, swaying to the music. The conversation continued at the table, though not with much gusto, for ten minutes until Buffy and Willow returned.

"We're really tired guys, I think we're gonna call it a night." Buffy said as Willow nodded her head enthusiasticly.

There was a chorus of goodbyes and Buffy and Willow left, walking off into the dark night.

(stalking behind them)
Three vampires saw their intended victim come out of the club, and started after her.

"Its late, and I'm tired, show yourself." Buffy said with more than a little impatience in her tone.

Suddenly three vampires came up and started towards the girls.

"Whoa, I really don't want to have to fight all three of you. Unless I have to." She said before she began her attack, and was actually holding up pretty well on her own, until one of them managed to grab ahold of Willow.

"Buffy!" She called out as the vampire began to go towards her throat with his fangs, only to turn into dust a few centimeters short. Willow fell down gasping for breath, only to be picked up by Angel.

"C'mon, lets go." He said as he began to run with Willow in his arms and Buffy trailed quickly after them.

They ran towards Buffy's house, and Buffy opened the door. "Come on, get in!" Buffy called out to Angel, as she ushered him into her house. She wouldn't normally have let him in at all, except for that he held the most precious thing in Buffy's life in his arms. Willow.

He sat her gently down on the couch, wincing slightly. Buffy looked at him. "You're hurt. Take off your shirt, and I'll get you patched up in a minute." She said to Angel as she made her way to her girlfriend. Knealing down at her side, she took Willows hands in her own. "Are you okay?" She asked, staring into the emerald eyes before her.

Willow nodded, "Yeah, I'm okay." She managed to say, her voice hoarse. Buffy leaned in and kissed her girl hard on the lips, and fought back tears. "I love you." She said, completely unaware that they had an audience.

"I know." Willow said before she kissed the blonde again. "Now, go and patch up the half way naked man over there, cause I want snuggles." She told Buffy as she sat up and began to wach Buffy clean up his wound.

"There, all better." Buffy said as she put a patch over the cut. "You should probably stay here for tonight, it's probably not safe out there." Buffy said to him. "You can stay on the couch if you want. Or, we have a guest room. You can choose." She said, backing off, and walking back towards the couch.

"The guestroom sounds great." He said, smiling slightly at the couple before him, thinking exactly how wrong the PTB had been.

"Great, its just up the stairs, first door on your right." She told him, as she walked up the stairs with Willow. It had been a long night, and they were both physically and emotionally drained, so when they got to Buffy's room, they both stripped down to their underwear and bra's before climbing into bed to hold eachother, all thoughts of making love suddenly floating out of their brains as sleep tried to claim them.

"I dont know what I would've done if he hadn't saved you." Buffy said tiredly, somehow still managing to look into the redhead's eyes.

"But he did, and that's all that matters." Willow said, as she kissed the love of her life gooodnight. "I love you." She whispered in Buffy's ear, and then sleep quickly claimed both girls.

Angel stayed up for a minute or two, glancing out his window, keeping watch over the house from his room. "What have you gotten me into?" He asked the PTB as he glanced up at the ceiling and shook his head.

A/N: What do you think? Told ya it'd eventually get some of the original season one in it :D Took long enough though, dontcha think?, happy readings- L.
