Chapter Three

Buffy had followed Willow up to what would be their shared dorm room. It was much larger than she had expected, but still just one room. Willow had made herself at home on the bed nearest the door and gestured for Buffy to take the other one. The blonde sat down and bounced slightly, testing the bed.

"Thanks by the way, for the save back there." Buffy said with a smile. 'Maybe this won't be so bad?' She thought as she glanced at the redhead.

"Oh, no problem. I used to do it for Faith all the time before she met Tara. Not to get rid of girls, but guys ya know?" She asked as she fiddled with her worry ring. "So, art huh?"

"Oh, uhm, yeah. My parents put me in it when I was four, and kinda been doin' it every since...." She trailed off. "You?

"Oh no, I'm lucky if I can draw a stick figure. I'm more of a computer nerd." She said with a smile. Buffy stared at the girl in front of her as she babbled on about what kind of computer stuff she was into. It was all greek to the blonde and so she took a moment to take in the redhead. Her eyes were a dark penetrating green that seemed to reflect her mood; she had smooth alabaster skin and was skinny. She smiled as she realized exactly how opposite Willow was of Stella.

*********Flashback to two years ago*********

She had just met Stella two weeks ago, and no matter how hard she tried Buffy Summers couldn't get Stella DeMos off of her mind. The girl was beautiful, with dark black hair, tan skin, and light gray eyes. "Buffy, hey." She heard her best friend, Danny, say as she walked up to her locker.

"Hey. You ready to have some fun out in the wilderness?" She asked, a joking smile playing on her lips.

"Oh yeah, let me tell you about it." Danny replied with a roll of her eyes. They'd known each other since they were four years old, both of their parents had put them in art classes. And while Danny had ended up taking dance instead, Buffy had become quite the artist. Today they were all going on a fieldtrip to Central Park to "observe nature," or at least that's what their biology teacher had said. They went to a charter school for the gifted and talented, so it was really no surprise that their whole fieldtrip only filled up one bus load of students.

Danny sat with Buffy the whole way, but as soon as Scott, her boyfriend, was allowed to move from his assigned seat, the two had been attached at the hand. Buffy sighed as she wondered off by herself. She found a small secluded area where she could sit and just watch everyone while she sketched. She had been there maybe ten minutes when she was interrupted.

"Hey Buff, I've been looking everywhere for you." Stella said as she came and sat down next to the blonde. Stella was a writer, and was actually finishing off her second novel in a series of three.

"Oh, hey Stella, what's up?" She asked, feeling the heat radiate off of the dark beauty sitting next to her.

"Nothing, which is why I wanted to come and bother you." She said with a smile on her lips. At Buffy's look she ducked her head. "Actually I had heard a rumor about you and wanted to see if it was true..." She let the rest of the question hang in the air.

"Well, ask away." Buffy said. She had only come out to Danny, and although Danny knew about her 'thing' for Stella, she doubted that the other girl would have ratted her out.

"Okay, see, I heard that... well, that you're kind of into me." She stated. She stared at Buffy, waiting for a reaction. Buffy for her part did her best not to react, but couldn't help the blush that crept up her cheeks.

"Uhm, yeah, kinda..." She said looking down at what she was drawing.

"Good." Stella said and leaned over, kissing the blonde for all she was worth.

**************Present****************

"Buffy? Earth to Buffy.... you there?" Willow asked, waving a hand in front of the blonde's glazed over eyes.

"Oh yeah, sorry Will," Buffy tried to recover. "Continue?"

"I was just asking if you maybe wanted to join us at the Bronze tonight? We're having a girl's night." Willow said, staring at her new friend.

"The bronze?" She asked, confusion written on her face.

"Yeah, it's the only cool club in Sunnydale, and well, every once in a while we have a girl's night out..."

"Yeah, sure. I just have to grab my stuff from my motel room, and I'll be ready to go." She said with a smile. "I'll see you in a few." She said as she walked towards the door. It was dark outside and before she could even get the door open Willow was pushing against it.

"I'll uhm, go with you. You know, since it's dark and all..."

"Uhm, okay...I can take care of myself you know?" Buffy asked eyeing the young redhead.

"Oh yeah, no doubt about that, just, ya know, I'd be bored here, all by myself, so uhm, yeah." Willow finished off lamely.

"Okay, whatever." Buffy replied with a shrug. Her motel room really wasn't that far, and so the walk there took maybe ten minutes.

"So tell me about you and Xander..." Buffy said, staring at Willow as she walked. She let her sense roam freely, taking in everything within about a three hundred foot radius of where she was.

"Oh, he's a good guy, we've been friends since we were five, so... well, it just kind of made sense." Willow said, not sounding all that enthusiastic.

"But you get butterflies right? And like...electricity shooting through you?" Buffy asked her raising an eyebrow.

"Butterflies? Electricity? Not so much...." Willow answered, scrunching her eyebrows together. "Should I?"

"Well, I do... When I'm dating someone I mean." Willow thought about this for a minute. Was she with Xander because that's how she liked him, or was she with him because it was convenient? She sighed. She'd actually been wondering about this for the last month and a half. They didn't make out, they barely kissed, and they hadn't had sex....

They neared a motel and Buffy pulled out her keycard. "Well, this is it." She said, eyeing the little room. It was small, but very clean and didn't look as dingy as some of the other motels she had seen when she first came to Sunnydale.

"Where's the rest of your stuff?" Willow asked, noticing that there was only one small suitcase in the corner.

"Oh, uhm, I decided to travel light?" She asked. In truth, she had seven outfits, and her toiletries in the bag and that was it. As soon as she had risen she had gone to her bank online and transferred all of her savings (quite a substantial amount since she had sold a few paintings to ready herself for college) to a different account.

"Yuh huh." Willow said. Buffy grabbed her bag and headed towards the door, handing in the key card at the front office before leaving the small motel behind. They quickly dropped off the bag and walked towards the bronze. They were about a block and a half away when Buffy sensed a vampire sneaking up on them.

"Stay here." She said and took off towards the vampire, quickly ending the fight by sneaking up on it and staking him in the back.

"You know about vampires then?" Willow asked having seen the whole scene play out before her.

"Uhm, yeah." She said shrugging her shoulders nonchalantly.

"How?" Willow asked looking at the slight blonde before her. She had seen Faith kill enough vampires and had even tried to kill some herself. Tried because for some reason she just couldn't get that momentum behind the stake enough to actually pierce their hearts. But the small girl in front of her had seemed to have no problem whatsoever.

"Uhm, just kind of picked it up?" She tried. Seeing Willow's face she tried to think of a better lie before settling for the truth. "I am one."
